By the way:
Another point that other people can clue me in on.
MM = Mark Miller/Positron
STM = ?
JAH = ?
RG = ?
(Remember, up until recently I was not a regular board reader.) -
Quote:Yeah. Kinda feels like another nail in the coffin. But at least we get some answers now.I thank you Posi for all you have done. I love City of Heroes. I was hoping and still am hoping that City of Heroes could be saved. I thought maybe since you had not answered this stuff yet you were holding off cause the end may not come. I am sorry to say this dashes my hopes some.
But don't give up yet! Remember - he said these answers are subject to change if COH is saved!
Which says to me he and the others are still working on it as well!
He's opened Pandora's box, and yes, there's hope in there as well. -
Quote:Point for clarity - and it doesn't have to be Posi who answers.
What were the rocket launch pads going to be used for, and when were they officially abandoned by the Dev team?
MM: We planned a space station instead of Praetoria for Going Rogue at first. They were abandoned when the idea of going to the space station was.
But apparently I've missed this or haven't played through the content that contains it yet. So my question is -
What rocket launch pads? The only one I can recall is in Warburg.
I have a feeling I'm going to feel stupid when someone tells me the answer to this. -
Thanks so much Posi. I will look forward to reading this. I'm sure there's stuff in there that will surprise me!
Downloading right after I post this.
(And yeah, Captain, the miracle will likely have to be us.) -
Quote:At this point I think I trust your judgement more than my own. If you think I've taken it too far, then I apologize. To you and the others. I'm sorry.There are reasons why it's dangerous to draw such a hard line in the sand between yourself and others here, not the least being that it will divide you from other people who are just as well-meaning as yourself. It will also cause you to stiffen rigidly in spirit during a time when you ought to be the most open and forgiving--this is not the time to open new wounds that cannot be reached for closure later. Even people with the same moral fiber as you have many different opinions about what represents a tough moral decision--though they might share the same caliber of morality, where they pick and fight their moral battles can be very different. And in every case, a person makes these decisions alone, for themselves.

Quote:I notice the downward trend appears to start the same day that we held our big rally on Saturday.Their stock has been declining all month too. It's not as bad as it was in August, but there's a definite downhill slope from a peak.

Too soon to tell for sure though. (Though hoping) -
Quote:Yeah. Kinda figured it might've been, too.This is the first review I see when I click the link.
It is a great place to work with a lot of opportunities to learn about the MMO development industry.

Pros Flexible hours, great team great work environment.
Cons The commute could be shorter!
That had to be one of our devs. Sad to see such happiness a mere week before the ax fell. -

If you need to unlock your VIP status and if there are boxed (retail) versions of the game that you have never bought and applied codes for, then order one of those through Amazon or Ebay. (But MAKE SURE you have ordered a NEW copy that's never been opened! Used codes are useless!)
Then when the box gets to your home, just open it up, get the code, go to your account page at NCSoft and apply that code to re-activate VIP.
That's what I did. Worked a treat. And was cheap too. ($6.75 for my copy of Going Rogue Complete edition) -
Quote:Oh that was YOURS? I didn't know! (or had forgotten) I have to say, sir, thank you for many years of fun and custom splash screens and silenced Mastermind pets and different custom artwork on the walls of our base (and in office/warehouse maps) and different music in Pocket D! Your program has been a godsend. And the only reason I hadn't used it recently was because I'd pretty much gotten everything to the way I wanted it. ^_^No, it needs to be converted to a DirectDraw Surface, and then have a custom header attached. My program Splasher does that, but I haven't updated it in a LONG time, because under Windows Vista/7 it only work properly with UAC turned off.
Quote:I wasn't aware we COULDN'T discuss that. There's a long thread about how to silence in-game sounds in the Guides forum, and when I first released Splasher I had a contest in this same board for people to create their own loading screens, and Lighthouse/Ex Libris/Niviene/Koschej were perfectly fine with it. -
Wow. It's been a long time since I've done client side mods.
Are we allowed to discuss that now, BTW?
I think you have to make those into .PIGG files to place in your data folder, right?
Wait... still have a few mods of my own in place. Let me check that.
EDIT: No - it needs to be converted into a .texture file. That's not just a simple file rename, is it? -
Quote:I'm with Two-Headed boy on this. No money to NCsoft. You pissed me off, so I'm taking my business elsewhere.I stopped reading here, because this is exactly right. Let's just pretend for a second that I could snap my fingers and have Guild Wars 2 just disappear and NCsoft to go bankrupt because of it's stake in it. I wouldn't do it. You know why?
Because I wouldn't have wanted an avid Tabula Rasa fan to have done it to us.
I don't WANT Arenanet or GW2 to fail. I'd love to support them. They seem to have a very innovative system going.
And as soon as they become an independent studio on their own no longer beholden to NCSoft or sharing profits with them, I'll be on board.
But not until then. -
Quote:That's very good to hear. I stated as much would be happening in another thread already.Pretty much this. Not one member of my family or SG will buy another NCSoft product again if this comes to pass, and will be sure to tell others what they think if this comes to a close. While I don't consider this a blip on my radar, we all might be surprised.
I was in Game Stop the other day and the cashier asked me if I wanted to pre-order the new WoW expansion, and I (never having played WoW) said "Nah, I'm an avid City of Heroes player and buying anything for an MMO at this point isn't really something I want to do..."
To which she soberly replied "I'm so sorry, I heard about what's going on there..."
Two other people in the store also piped up. Nobody there actually played City of Heroes, but they knew what was going on, and were very supportive and said they were sorry the way things were going down. It was nice to hear, to be honest (the past few weeks have been a very low point for me for a miriad of reasons, including this). However, more importantly... gamers know what's going on. They know who is doing it and don't understand it any more than the rest of us.
I didn't ask if they bought GW2 or if it influenced their purchases from them... I was feeling awkward enough as it was by getting so much attention from an offhand statement I'd made, to tell the truth. I just wanted out of there and not to think about it.
I think this will impact NCSoft more than they realize, in the western market at any rate. That will probably be 'revenge' enough.
I think NCSoft doesn't know it yet, but our vengeance is already taking shape.
Worst PR Nightmare - EVER. (Well at least in the MMO world anyway.) -

Quote:Yes. That would do nicely.Success is the best form of revenge. Seeking to harm NCSoft would, in the end, corrupt us just as much as their corporate greed does them.
We'll do something that fills fans of City of Heroes with joy, something that leaves NCSoft behind to become a small, dim, unimportant memory.
Something like maybe someone start a new, independent company from scratch and a new superhero MMO? Yes. A pipe dream for now. But there are so many of us, and surely some percentage of us have the business skills (or are in the process of developing them in college and elsewhere) to do such a thing in the future?
If in 10 years, there is a new, shinier City of Heroes, based on the lore from this game and IP and at that time NCSoft is nothing but a bad memory?
I'll take that as a win. -
If it comes to that, I'll be satisfied with NCSoft retreating entirely from the western market because they can no longer do business here at all because not enough gamers will trust them.

Quote:Excellent!I have a couple of co-workers who play WoW. They have signed the petition. I will see if I can get at least one of them to start spreading the word in their community.
I've placed a few Titan links in the CO forums myself. But they're in the "Fanbase Alpha" section, which doesn't get a lot of traffic. Still - the CO people are VERY sympathetic to us.
(Even if some of them are a bit opportunistic about it. "Hey! This is great! An influx of players to OUR game!" Well, who can blame them? They're interested in their game staying alive. And with COH on the chopping block, it may be making them a bit nervous about their own survivability. They should be. After November it will be just them and DCUO the only superhero MMOs out there. )
I imagine many of them are former COH people who have already signed the petitions. -
