Oh... wow... the more I hear about the Arena the more anxious I get.

Btw, I'm still with the "wait and see for yourself" crowd. I think many folks have taken the term "anime inspired" too seriously. This will not turn into City of DBZ. I have a feeling there will be things in this update that will be the kind of costume updates you've been wanting.
[/ QUOTE ]
Dude, it allready IS city of DBZ. On freedom server i've seen both countless direct ripoffs of Dragon Ball Z characters, and piles and piles of folk with SSJ in their name and/or description.
As far as things been Anime Styled, I'm hoping that means things like pleated skirts, dresses and bobby socks for the girls, flight jackets, vests, etc for the guys, and a fair amount of kung-fu gear for both.
...and floating hearts/candy/puppies/whatever as an aura effect O_o
I think floating puppies would be an awesome aura, personally.
[/ QUOTE ]
I went into this already back on page 6 (for me... I set the forum to 25 posts per page). What I really meant is that not every single character will be anime inspired, at least not in the long run. Sorry for my poor choice of phrasing, as it has apparently not conveyed the intended meaning to a lot of people. -

I agree, Arucard I think you're being far too generous.
I'm still seeing Wolverine clones to this day.
If you think we're not going to be overrun by super saiyans, you sir, are definitely on the Dyne.
[/ QUOTE ]
That wasn't my point. What I was saying is that the world will not be redrawn into a DBZ style, nor will EVERY character look like some anime reject. That seems to be what some people are afraid of. I will bet my life that there will be plenty of traditional styled heroes out there to balance it all out. Of course there will be anime clones, but after a week or two it won't be any worse than it is now. -

Nah, didn't take it that way Arucard. I do, however, realize that I do sometimes come off as an arrogant jerk and sometimes people take my sense of humor the wrong way.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quite the contrary, I'm a big fan! -
[ QUOTE ]
I know, Arucard. But I thought it sounded funnier this way. Heck, if I didn't like these forums, do you think I'd have made close to 5000 posts by now?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sorry, I didn't mean any of that to "1-up" you. I just wanted to get in a good crack at the WoW forums and show Clobbertime that we aren't the only ones whining for nothing. I apologize if it seemed I was trying to counter you or show you up. -

Let me see if I'm getting this straight. There are people here whining about what they're getting when the fact is they don't really know what all they're getting, only part of it? That's pretty much the gist of it, fight?

Welcome to the City of Heroes forums!

Welcome to any and every MMO message board. You think this stuff is bad, you should go over to the free-for-all flamefest that is the WoW forums. -

Issue 5, in my opinion..is a long way off, somewhere around next January.
So Issue 4 is technically the last free update we'll see til after CoV is live.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not known for clear answers, but I'll break with tradition and just say...
Nope. Issue 5 WILL come out earlier than next January.
And there are TWO development teams within Cryptic - one on City of Heroes and one on City of Villains.

Well Backagain that should definitively answer your fears about getting new content. Sure, you didn't get something you want this time around, but with regular updates every 3 to 4 months there's bound to be more costume options made available.

EDIT: In regards to something Primal said... what is with all the hate for Spacekitten? Aside from a flamefest with Twilight Avengers a few months ago (and I certainly don't blame SK for not getting along with those guys) I have yet to see him/her say something anywhere close to nasty. -

NOOOO! You dare not speak that name here! Defiler!

I'm afraid I'm lost on the Puffy Shirt comment.
[/ QUOTE ]
PuffyShirt was a poster here on the forums way back in the beginning. He was definitely around for the last month of beta, and I'm not sure if he stuck around for the actual release.
He was, in all sense of the word, a complete and utter troll. THE perfect example of one, actually. He was competent enough to write and express himself properly, so you couldn't just write him off as some dumb kid. He did nothing but complain (and I mean COMPLAIN... not a single thing he ever said could be construed as positive in any way), he was straight out offensive to anyone who disagreed, he would actively try to derail threads, etc etc. You get the point.
His tenure on the boards ended when someone made a post that had a title similar to "PuffyShirt should be banned from the forums." Everyone and their mother commented on this, and he spent the whole time arguing and insulting. Finally he just went away.
When someone calls you "the next PuffyShirt" it sure as hell isn't meant as a compliment. It basically labels you as a moderately intelligent troll who whines incessently and contributes nothing whatsoever to the community.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: I am not expressing a personal opinion of you. That is how most everyone feels about PuffyShirt. If Brawl called you "the next PuffyShirt" I assume, however, that is how he thinks of you (albeit I'm sure he wasn't entirely serious). -

Gosh, I was going to try to respond and join the debate but I can't.
Wanna know why?
Apparently my forum avatar means I don't get to have an opinion.
<------------ see? Anime character. Oh, the horror!
Okay, in all seriousness... I like the addition of anime costumes. It's funny to say that, because when I make my heroes I usually design something that would be considered "classic" in western comics. Manga doesn't really factor into my creation process at all.
I am disappointed about trenchcoats though. Two reasons: 1) I think they would look really good on some of my characters and 2) So many folks have been asking for trenchcoats for a LOOONG time. Since beta. I just wish it was a higher priority for the devs. I do understand there may be some technical difficulties with it, but I honestly believe it could have been implemented by now if they made it a higher priority.
But I take all of this with a grain of salt. As someone else pointed out not all content will appeal to a single person all the time. So the costume options may not be what I had in mind. I don't see why that should be a big deal. It's certainly not something worth getting mildly upset about (IMO). I'm just stoked that there will be new costume options at all. They may not be what I had in mind, but they will please some people... that's always a good thing.
I'm also more relaxed about the upcoming costume additions because I know I might be wrong. It's entirely possible that the costumes, although anime inspired, will have a broad range of appeal. It's not like we're forced to give our heroes big eyes and odd colored hair. I may find something awesome in the new options and add it on to my characters.
The point is we just don't know yet. I understand, Backagain, that you have a very specific idea of what costume options you wanted to add. I did too. I think (and please ignore my avatar as I say this and actually listen to me) that it might be better than you expect. This does not mean "give anime a try and you'll warm up to it." This means "give the new costume options a try, they may not be so exclusivly anime style. They might appeal to non-anime fans as well."
Ah well, just a thought. Or group of thoughts. Okay, it was more of a ramble really. Sorry about that. -
I believe you left out "pistols" as a likely powerset addition for scrappers.
Other than that great post! -
But I took the anime from the anime with an "r." Now we're just splitting hairs. Simply put: I like the anime series. Though I understand that it was not translated perfectly, the spelling in the show is with an r. Thus I made my name Arucard instead of Alucard, although they are pronounced the same. I'm sorry if this really bothers anyone, but I just thought I would go with the anime spelling.

Correct! Arucard from Hellsing, one of my favorite anime series of all time.
The name from the manga and anime is pronounced "Alucard," but the Japanese alphabet does not have an L (when translated). The letter R is the closest letter translation. Or so I'm told.
...wow, I couldn't be more off topic if I tried. Sorry.
[/ QUOTE ]
Rrrgh...Spell Alucard backwards, darn it! Alucard is the *correct* spelling, as the most famous vampire of all time is not *Dracura*!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you, captain obvious. Do you really think anyone here is stupid enough to not realize that Alucard is Dracula backwards? I did not come up with the name nor the translation. My avatar is the character from the show, and in the show it is spelled with an r. I saw no reason to change it, no matter what the pronunciation. -

talking to a store manager at EB he told me not many companies release large titles at the same time.NC Soft is releasing guild war could this be the reason city of vilians is delayed so as not to compete against another title?
[/ QUOTE ]
CoV is not delayed at all. It has never had a set release date.
This thread was original discussing features that were supposedly planned for Updates 2 and 3, and have been pushed back to 4 and beyond. -
The altoholic in me hopes it's new costume options. The soon-to-be level 50 in me hopes it's endgame content. The cynic in me noticed that stackable armors was on that list and thinks we already got our second "want" already.

You know arenas will make it into Issue 4. You can be reasonably sure that there will be a new zone, possibly a new enemy, and possibly a new server wide event.
In the future you can be sure that they will add the skills system, powersets, epic ATs, zones, villain groups, power customizations, player housing and/or SG bases, and many more things. You should be clear on one thing though: there is no absolute set date for any of these. None. It has been that way since day 1. Don't count on anything until you see it advertised on the main page here, even if a dev discusses it or says something like "we're aiming to put addition X into update Y."
So if new powersets gets pushed back into update 8 or whatever don't come crying to the boards. -

Ack, don't nerf the new bosses! They're awesome.

There's no nerf! Just kick up the difficulty slider a bit if you want these buffed bosses. -

And since everyone says Statesman only responds to misquotes, I read somewhere that "the card system is just the initial step towards turning the game into a massive game of solitaire." In response to whether or not this would alienate fans of CoH, Statesman gave the interviewer the double fisted middle finger and walked out of the room. I wonder if he wants to clarify this issue.

Universities?
[/ QUOTE ]
Universities will be for the skills system that will also be in Update 4, along with arenas. -
So I was typing out a response to defend my post, but in the middle of that I realized you made a compelling argument.
All I was saying is that I hate to see one particular player class singled out, then have their powers reduced. It just doesn't seem fair to that group. And I hate the precedent it sets. But you have a good point, this HP increase it going screw up everyone. You win -
[ QUOTE ]
If you really want to address the AoE problem you need to... nerf the AoE attacks .
[/ QUOTE ]
I think I speak for most players when I say this should NEVER be a suggestion. First, it's just wrong to call for another AT to get weakened in any way just because you don't like it, are jealous of its success, can't think of a better way, and so on. Second, nerfs have a snowball effect. If you start the process by calling for nerfs on one class, then you will soon find most classes getting nerfed to "balance."
This is why I support the HP increase for minions. It doesn't make the hero weaker, it just makes enemies a little tougher. I understand why the devs want to do this (to remove the City of Blasters mentality with overwhelming AoE attacks), and I think avoiding the simple nerf approach is the better of the two options.
I must admit though, I hope things are not as bad as people are saying. Controllers and Defenders are going to need something. As for tankers, I've ALWAYS said that they need an increase in damage, and this new change just reinforces that need.
As I've said many times before I have faith in this dev team and I'm sure they will work something out to help all ATs fit in with the new minion increase.
Sorry for the rambling post, I'm a bit tired. -
