SG need more room. LOTS more room. Yes, the majority of SGs may be smaller, but some of the most loyal groups in this game are simply too big to fit in one SG. Our alts should all be contributing to the same base, not 4 different bases because of the arbitrarily low limit of 75 per SG. Never have I seen a good technical (or any other) reason why 75 must be the limit. Raise the limit, preferably by a factor of at least 5, or even abolish it altogether. This is major obstacle to Prestige being a workable system.
[/ QUOTE ]
On the subject of which: perhaps change the limit to 75 accounts. This means that an absolute maximum of 75 characters from the SG can be active at once, but also means that alts are a non-issue in terms of space used. -
Something someone figured out rather quickly, is that you can throw yourself off buildings, take lots of damage, and get defiance as a result. It seems that falling damage was reduced in I5, which means we shouldn't actually see City of Lemmings, but still, near miss there...
Also, rather than making it your health, maybe make it damage taken in the last 60 seconds? So, if you threw yourself at some -3s, got battered down to 10% health, then wander off to fight your real target, it won't work. However, if you're in combat and taking heavy fire, it'll be great, and the healer doesn't have to avoid you! -
Woohoo, Exalted! Thanks devs!
Oh, and are the Croatoa badges meant to be that big? Not that I'm complaining, the graphics are great, it's just a little odd. -
Just a few quick points: <ul type="square">[*]Please let us teleport hostages to the end of the level. It may seem like it cheapens the experience, but I think the point of the hostage system should be to ensure there is some route out, not that it is by clearing most of the level.[*]It would be nice if hostages moved a little faster.[*]Could we please not have Quantum gunners/Voids in waves of enemies? The general response from a Kheldian, to these turning up, has to be to hide. That just doesn't work in this case.[/list]

Kitsune, generally like your idea. Some slight issues with times still (what if the enemy SG leader puts the 6 hour zone at 2am-8am? Again this is particularly an issue for those of us in other countries). Apart from that, no flaws I can spot.
Mostly, this entire thread makes me very, VERY glad I'm not going to be held responsible for the final decision -
[ QUOTE ]
Nope, do the math, 6 hours isn't sufficient. If you are smart enough to figure out the time difference between the UK and the states, then I'm sure you can figure out why 6 hours isn't enough.
Needs to be 24 hours.
[/ QUOTE ]
Forget time difference, one of the opposing SG gets up at 2am sets the attack going, and they break in at 8am while the other side has breakfast. I could live with a 24 hour warning. We could provide a decent defence team with that much warning, but certainly whether I was available or not would be blind luck. I'd pity the small/less active SGs, but we could do it...
However, I tend to feel, unless SGs max sizes get bigger, suprise raids just aren't likely to find enough people online... -
Okay, I spent a while thinking about this, and decided to only list people who:
1. I've teamed heavily with, and enjoyed doing so.
2. I haven't been listed already.
Mostly because this is turning into a list of the people everyone hears a lot about, IMHO. There are going to be people I've forgotten, and I'm sorry, but here we go:
Captain Hygiene
Celtic Crush
Dragon Huntress
Emerald Dragoon
Fire Lotus
GirlOne
Lashandra
Manna
Natarle
Omega Kitty
Organic Meatbag
Pandora's Heir
School Marm
Snowmane
TeaDaze
Unknown Paradox
Vivioruh
If you're not on this list, and expected to be, please consider how much time I've actually played along side you (there's been several people that I'm not listing because I don't feel I've had time to form an opinion on their playstyle). Failing that, I've probably just forgotten, sorry! -

If a player can set vulnerability, what actually motivates them NOT to set it at 3:00 AM to prevent raids?
[/ QUOTE ]
Possibly instead of making up a given number of hours, require users to make up a number of points/week, with peak hours counting for 2 points, and daft hours of the night counting for 0.5 points.
This is a particular issue for my SG, as we're a group of Europeans playing on the US servers. While there's a few insomniacs prepared to be online at US peak time, it's going to be interesting whatever happens.
Also, making yourself vulnerable at 3am has downsides; chances are less of your SG will be able to make it, and there's always going to be different time zone/insomniac players who can make it... -

I assume a safeguard will be put in to prevent a SG from monopolizing a relic by simply NEVER being available to be raided. If these relics have any kind of benefit, a SG could just lock it away in their unraidable base.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd imagine it would work by the SG setting a schedule of times they are available for raiding, over the next week, and must provide a minimum number of hours (20 seems likely) or forfeit the relic. The attacking SG then picks a time within that schedule, and both sides are notifed in a hopefully IC way to be at that base at the given time...
Personally, I kinda fancy the idea of doing/fighting off raids every now and then, but if it was unscheduled, you can forget it. I have work, and I have a social life, and both are going to take priority over CoH, and without scheduling that would almost guarantee my base being invaded while I'm not there. -

I think the only things that Cryptic could poach from Areanet is that fantastic post process fuzz (A-la ICO) and perhaps some of their scenery guys because GW scenery is _gorgeous_
I honestly think that with a revised enviroment lighting system (the buildings are much to uniform in light tone) and a little post processing (when graphics cards mature a smige more) the COH engine could be top notch for a _long_ time.
[/ QUOTE ]
The CoH environments feel a little too regular, something GW seems to have skipped, I'd love for them to be able to find some way of adapting CoH to include that.
Other things I wish they'd take from GW: Single shard (even if it's sort of split into continents, plus a shared international area) rocks muchly, and generally not having different clients for different countries would be nice. The content streaming system for updates is excellent, too, although I'm not sure that their frequent update policy won't come back to bite them.
The only complaint I have about GW is the missions are too linear, and the invisible walls make navigating a nuisance. It's a great game. -
[ QUOTE ]
NCSoft is the publisher of both of these games. Cryptic is the development studio that made CoH. ArenaNet is the development studio that made Guild Wars. While there may have been some collaboration, in theory, two different companies made CoH and GW.
[/ QUOTE ]
Although I'd be disappointed with NCSoft if they don't try to get their different development studios to talk to each other and exchange ideas/technologies. -
[ QUOTE ]
The buisness model for Guild Wars is that you don't have a monthly subscription however you will be paying $30-$40 every 4-5 months for an expansion. However the expansions are not necessary for you to play the base game.
[/ QUOTE ]
According to the official support site they'll be released every 6-9 months, actually.
[ QUOTE ]
Now one thing this game has PvP and of coarse as expansions come out if you want to compete effectively in PvP you will of coarse want the new uber/escalated loot :P
[/ QUOTE ]
Apparently not, although to be honest I suspect the wider range of powers from buying the expansions will make you more powerful, anyway.
[ QUOTE ]
That in itself is the hook. As I see it whether you pay $12-$14 a month for a subscription and get free upadates or pay $35 every 3-4 months for an expansion pack it equates to the same thing, they still get your money.
[/ QUOTE ]
I reckon we're more looking at $40-50 every 6-9 months, at a saving of around 50% compared to most MMORPGs, plus you can drop in anytime for a quick game, without having to actually pay anything. Keep in mind they've trimmed a lot of corners; most of the game world is instanced, meaning that status updates only have to go to you and your team mates, there's no GMs to pay, no forums to host, etc.
