...the developers in both EQOA and EQ 2 are very active on the boards.

Just a quick note...it's not until very recently that we've had more than a couple dev responces an any given month on EQOA. I've heard that EQ2 is having nice updates, and EQOA is finally starting to rev up again, but it's really only recently that we've seen anything "major." -

That all said I never assume any game is being released until I see the announcement on the official web site that it has gone GOLD.

Absofrickinlutely! I spent two years managing Gamespot stores, and I can honestly say "release dates" are nothing more than carrots to dangle before the jackas......er....consumer. These dates are reckless estimates at best, and are usually followed by the mandatory "If you reserve it now, we can call you when (if) it comes in. Its only $5.00...." <wink, wink, nudge nudge>
Until there's official confirmation that the game has gone gold, don't believe ANYTHING you hear. Less stressful that way.

pretty much, but at my EB, it was more like:
"For only 5$ you're GUARANTEED to get the game the day it comes out!"
then they call on the last date you told them it was supposed to come out:
"Is it in yet!?" to which you reply...
"No, i'm sorry, they pushed it back. when i tell you it comes out September 19th, what i really mean is that they tell us it's coming out that date, but they can push it back as far as they want with no notice at all, so until we actually get the game in our store, and give you a call telling you it's in, it's not in." -
i wouldn't mind having (for lack of a better term) path choices.
short, bad example because it's early: an AR/DEV blaster, through missions at 20, 30, 40, and 49, would get a choice between two power sets. or 3. or 4, idk.
massive damage, long recast, long range snipe that completely stuns bosses (of appropriate level) and below. wouldn't be a one shot kill, but would definitely help out.
OR
a protective shield that mitigates, idk....10% of all damage done to the blaster. 10% at level 20, 12% at 30, 15% at 40, 20% at 50 would be a rough guess, i have no clue if that's overpowered.
basically, you'd be able to specialize in one area (for this example it would be damage or defense) or you could switch them around. go damage, defense, damage, defense. or any other combo. if you specialized all the way, you would get a slightly better final ability, if you switched around, it would still be good, but not as powerful a spell as the specialized one.
and before anyone says it, yes, i ganked that idea from EQOA. i always did like that part of the game.
anyway, these aren't very good examples, since i have only played for a few days now, but it's a general idea. -

Pre-Order: Ships on 8/14/2005"
from working for eb for around a year, i can tell you that most likely, that will change. it might be 2006 before it releases, and it might get pushed around (either bumped up, or bumped back) by a few days. this far in advance, all you should be looking at is the quarter that it's released, and not worry about the specific date until around 2 months before it is slated to release.
just an example: for over a year, Halo 2 was supposed to come out in April of 2004. everyone thought that was the definitive date. now look at when it actually DID get released. almost every big game goes through the same thing. hopefully COV won't get pushed back 6+ months.
