For flavor; something that Blasters could call their own (this to help quell all the shouting done about the snipe changes not being Blaster specific - which created a perception that the comparison between the ATs was back to the Nuke and Sustain power changes; which was, in turn, doing little to nothing to balance Blasters against the other ATs (as I was interpreting those arguments)

I guess I will never get an logical explanation, and will always remain a "cause I wanna" request.

    So be it.
The extended range for snipes I believe was blaster only ??

Anyway I disliked the snipe changes because they were both too powerful and too limiting. You couldn't skip snipes in sets that had them after the change, and blasters became even more insp reliant than they were before.

    Seems legit.
Except it would likely drive up sales of NCsoft's games, as Starcraft players roamed the internet looking for something else.

You want Karma, take a dump on NCsoft wherever you can.

Don't be a nutter. I was one of the most (read only) critical people of the game direction and the worst, I thought would happen would be a permanent maintenance mode with maybe an issue or 2 per year of things that were trivial to add.

I mean it's a baffling move by ncsoft. They are tossing out $10 mil/year in sales. At the very least they should have been able to convert that into several million/year in profit by just letting people go.

That kind of thing goes out the window when the team is having trouble. Our top end player characters could solo just about everything out there so if you had someone like that on the team it didn't matter. When you had teams of characters that had at best so's and possibly many slots unfilled it was a different story.

The blue line is CoH revenue for the trailing 4 quarters.

If you can look at the blue line and think that the business was going well, I don't know what else to tell you.

This is why I've said repeatedly that if the Paragoners were caught by surprise, then they weren't paying attention to how their business was going. Neither GR nor Freedom were able to stop the decline. The only thing that they really had going for them was the secret project.
I always looked at the earnings and thought they need to get a little sustained growth going or its maintenance mode here we come. It's a business you invest in a project you expect a return.

I have no doubt that it came as a complete shock to paragon studios. After the refunds severance packages and such this is going to be a pretty costly move for NCsoft when the alternative was to have the game go on indefinitely minmally staffed but making money.

This is true, but if powerleveling is a game killer every game out there should be dead. Without PLs being available I probably would have left this game after the 2nd run through of the envoy of shadows arc, or world wide red.

So while it is clear that COH was not a huge money maker (reports have it at 10 million per year), it was NOT closed due to a decline in sales because of AE or ANY other feature/issue.

That claim is personal axe grinding crapola with no real factual support from the parties involved.
Cobra Man insists that MA killed the game.

You insist poor sales and very likely losses didn't matter

I don't see how you can claim your point is any more valid than his. In order for your position to be true, the proposition that "If CoH had twice the sales it does now and 5 to 10 times the net profit NCsoft still would have closed it" would have to be true. That proposition is at best very unlikely to be true.

It is as simple as NC SOFT and Z put it, they decided to go in a different direction than Paragon was going with the secret project period.

If Z or NC SOFT had mentioned sales as a contributing factor then you would have specific support for the specific claim about sales, but you don't because that had nothing to do with it.

Put away your axe mate, it is blinding you to the established facts that are staring you right in the face.
They don't mention but it's there. They haven't canned wildstar. yet despite the fact it's easier to kill a game before launch than after spending the marketing money to bring in customers. You can also be certain that there was a profit number that there was no way NCsoft would walk away from.

If you read the Dev Decisions that killed the game thread, there were an enormous number of things presented that could have contributed to the death of the game. What I saw there was all wrong as well.

What we had was NCsoft not doing it's job. At some point you need mgmt that isn't in love with ideas to rationally evaluate decisions. Every business has bad ideas, makes bad moves, has failures. The successful businesses are those that can recognize , recover from and mitigate their mistakes quickly. CoH quick was 6 months to years. The only people that could be reasonably expected to do this and enforce it on the culture of Paragon Studios was NCsoft. They didn't.

    1. They call CoX dated looking?!!!! CO looks like something done on an Etch-a Sketch, and thats with the outlines turned off. The water effects are a true LOL. Capes: LOL.

    2. In-game community seems very snarky and unwelcoming. They *know* we are coming there, and its totally "OMG N00BS." People asking for help in Broadcast are either ignored or mocked.

Not me, because I have not dared to open my mouth, given the general mood. But I don't feel very welcome regardless, knowing that is how people feel. Perhaps I will just minimize my chatbox and concentrate on killing stuff for a while.

-The AR/Energy Blaster with Bonfire who dropped Bonfire every spawn and thought Power Push was a great idea when trying to fight a Boss.
-The Plant/Psi Dominator who kept yelling at us for breaking his AoE sleep and had almost no powers from Psi.
-The Invul tank without Unyielding "because it had crap resistance".
-The Claws/Regen Scrapper who said Regen was too endurance heavy and refused to use any power other than Shockwave
-The countless masterminds who didn't purchase the Upgrade powers "because they cost too much end to use and the pets always die anyway"
-The FF Defender with no bubbles and a constantly-on Repulsion Field/Force Bubble
-The Fire/Kin controller with no Flashfire and Repel always running

    Teaming was impossible.
Look there is a very simple logical problem with the assertion MA created a large number of people that didn't know how to play. WHERE DID THEY COME FROM ?

MA didn't attract much of anyone to the game. All it did was give people something they could point to and say EBIL BURN THE WITCH. Before MA I duoed a positron with my blaster and a someone that brought a SR scrapper. The scrapper had less positional defense than my blaster and insisted on taunting everyone to where we were.

His reasoning "Taunt means they can't use ranged".

I dropped the TF after the second mission. Morals ? Awful players were here before AE. If you have crappy people on a team get the TL to kick them or make an excuse and leave.

You don't write things off unless what you save in tax payments is considerably greater than the actual value of what you are writing off.

Here is a very simple example.
    1. You buy a piece of modern art as speculation at a low price
    2. Your "Art" doesn't appreciate over time
    3. You find a friendly museum that you donate the "art" to make a regular donation and they favorably value your "art" for you
    4. You take the museums valuation of your art as your deduction
    5. The museum places your art in their cellar

The only way taking a write off for CoH works is if they can get an insane valuation for it.

I am sorry but you have to realize that doesn't compute.

If that is the case you drop the secret project, you don't destroy an asset that would be conservatively valued at 10-20 million dollars

For me, the problem is how much stuff there is. I mean, we have.. What? Super stats? Other super stats? Characteristics? Skills? Advantages? Gear? Mods? Specializations? Second specializations? Making sense of character building in CO is just, like I said earlier, a very convoluted process. That's on top of what you're talking about here I'm sure. There are inevitable layers of complication in all of the aforementioned complications.
I heard they put in diminishing returns without documenting it.

I never thought that they'd throw an enhancement in to drop KB to KD.

A lot had changed over the years... some of it FAR too slowly, sure, but changed nonetheless.
I recall Castle saying they had a guy working on it for a month (KB->KD) and they couldn't do it.

    Lets see

Being able to choose the T1 or T2 for your secondary ability
Some way to actually be able to remove interruptibilty with IOs
Being able to take that 5th pool instead of an patron/epic
Group the pools into T1 and T2 abilities and only require a T1 to access the T2s
Decent status protection in a couple of pools. Something that in principle could be available enough to be worthwhile. Available a quarter of the time at most and has to be pre applied doesn't cut it. If you have a toggle heavy build anything less than all the time doesn't cut it.

Edit: Forcing bad powers down people's throats isn't great game design. Great game design is making people have to choose between things they really want.

Not a fault in the AT, just a problem with people who expected everything to come easy. The biggest problem this game had was trying to cater to people that didn't want to play it.
There were far too many things in this game that killed the benefits of range.

Anyone who claimed they left because AE ruined the game for them was likely going to leave anyway. AE was something you could completely avoid and didn't have to deal with at all. The only people that were "forced" to participate in AE were badgers. The only reason badgers would have quit due to AE, was Positron's thermonuclear hissy fit and badge ectomy. That wasn't an AE issue. We had people who didn't know how to play before AE, we had them After AE was nerfed, again and again and we still have them.

I always viewed our developers critically I make no secret of it, but if you want to understand the problem it was never anything individual. It wasn't even any particular poor decision, it was always the lack of follow through. Our developers were like Thomas Edison's Goatee wearing counterparts from another universe. Where Edison would have an idea and hammer at it till it was perfect and then hammer at it more, our guys would have an idea leave it half done move on to the next thing.

You don't get a good hit by just making contact with the ball, it takes follow through.

Any reasoning behind that ? From your last comment it looks like you think blasters would be infringing on scrappers. I never considered that a bad thing, they were pretty much the baseline damage dealer.
