Hello all.
I'v been wrestling with a 2nd build for my fire/em blaster. I took it to last weeks event and it actually didn't do nearly as bad as I thought it would. It's an i7 PvE build. SOs/HOs, flame mastery. The biggest issue I had was the lack of rapid verticle movement. i.e. super jump. That and the fact that I skipped taking flares. (Hey, at the time, flares sucked, and it was for PvE...)
I pretty much know what to take on this toon out of the pri/sec. I even have a decent idea of what to take out of the power pools and app. I figure fitness/speed/leaping/concealment and ice mastery.
Anyway, the question I have is about enh. slotting. I expect all my pri/sec attack powers will be 6-slotted. Whether they are franken-slotted or just full sets, that's how I see them. What I am having the most issues with is how to slot super speed/super jump/health. Also, should I take combat jumping? I have the vet reward, so it's not a requirement, but it is a nice place to drop a LotG global recharge.
Thanks -
I'll bring something suitably xenophobic. However, I will consider it a victory for the aliens if I don't get purple recipe and a rare salvage drop.

Hello all and many thanks to those taking time to help us noobs learn how to get our butts kicked! Err...I mean, learn how to PvP.
Since this is university, I would like to request a kind of introductory primer of the ATs. If our professors could voice their opinions on what the relative strengths of the various ATs (blue and red) are in PvP, I think that would help to set certain expectations.
i.e. What do you think is the best AT to start out with and why? If you were to rank the various ATs, what would the list look like? What are differences between zone and arena and why does a toon excel in one but not the other?
I think one of the many issues with how PvP is viewed, is the fact that a toon that does well in PvE can fail miserably in PvP. Obviously there are a lot of contributing factors for that failure. However, if people have reasonable expectations, it makes it a lot easier to swallow when it happens and it is less likely to contribute to a one and done mentality. -
I like the fact that people are taking the time to do this. I know that a while back something like this was attempted, but I'm not sure how far along it got. I don't remember if the PvP changes killed it or what.
Regardless, it's cool that the more experienced PvPers are taking part in developing interest in PvP amongst the general population.
My first suggestion/request is this:
When I see a PvP build posted, usually it's a build that is purple/PvP io'd to the max. This can be extremely intimidating to a newer player or one that doesn't have a lot of cash to throw at a build.
I do understand the reasoning. You want to get the most out of a build. However, for the new/poor player, this isn't very practical and can discourage people from even attempting PvP because they don't feel that they have a chance to be even slightly competitive.
My suggestion/request is that when builds are posted, have an alternate build that is more budget minded. I know that it is more work but it might make it easier for folks to transition into PvP.
Thanks -
This looks like it could be fun. I particularly like the fact that you are mixing in some zone events. Running in the arena all the time can get a little stale.

I see how things are around here.....
Apparently Doomopolis is going to need a new press secretary.... -
It depends on if I have consumed enough rum by then. What are the chances?
Anyway, I have a BS/WP scrapper that may be able to make the cut.....
Yeah, I went there. -
Hmm. I have a fire/kin that I can bring. Or a couple of blasters. Or a scrapper. Whatever seems most appropriate.
-
Perhaps. Need to respec Tonto. Again...

This is why I still allow Voo access to some of the seedier dive bars in Doomopolis.
Kind of like a work release program.
Mind you, he can't live here. We do have standards... -

Lol. On this server, merely showing up is enough to offend someone, somewhere. Try not to take it personally.
As the Mayor of Doomopolis, allow me to welcome you to the Victory server forum.
Victory server forum: You say "Hello", we say "FU!". -
Quote:Ah, this explains a lot...::facepalm::As others will be glad to tell you, I thought the focus of WP was damage resistance.
I didn't have High Pain Threshold or RttC slotted for health. I certainly didn't have Tough or Weave. My resists capped at around 35%, and I couldn't take an alpha to save my life.
I have remedied most of these issues (took Tough but not Weave), and I specced out of Weapons Mastery into Body Mastery, picking up FA and Physical Perfection.
She should work much better now.
You should have asked earlier about WP. I have two /wp scrappers and a wp/ tank. I probably could have saved you a certain amount of grief.
Nerdrage is BS/WP.
Did you skip stamina for physical perfection? As GP pointed out FA is kinda meh (end hog) and outside of PvP, I don't see the need with IO set bonuses.
Regardless, now that you know you are a less clicky version of regen, I suspect life will be better for that toon.
Assuming you ever play it again after tonight.... -
Quote:Sign me up with my DB/Gimp Scrapper. I hope to be respecced and properly slotted by then.
Willpower = Gimp? You're not doing it right...
Tell me you've respec'd into tough and weave.
Also, 6 slot health if you can afford all the heal procs.
WP is pretty solid right out of the box. Tough and weave allow you to play tank if necessary.
The biggest caveat of WP is that you need to take all of the powers, save the rez. -

Quote:Not everyone is you. Yes. Other people use AE for fun. Deal with that.
I love it when someone gets their panties in a bunch if their sacred cow is slighted. Particularly when it is over what would be generally considered a flippant remark.
However, I suspect the total number of hours spent in AE by the player base (i.e. actually playing, not fashioning missions) is greatly slanted to those farming.
Whatever kiddo. Everyone pays their fee to play the way they wish. It wouldn't be possible for me to care less in that regard.
Here's the ball, now run along sonny. -
Eh. Talk to my mf'n press secretary. I think an ad hoc committee named Masque to that post.
Send him a email about it.
I think he has a circular file used to parse out those missives for the special consideration they need. -
Yeah. After the about first 3-4 50's, the history/exploration badges become more than a little tedious.
Any more, I grit my teeth and deal with them in the most efficient manner possible.
The map patch is a must, imho.
As far as i17 itself. I don't know what to think. There are some nice QoL features. Four new arcs. Two each side of four missions each. Really, that's not all that much content. Ultra video mode- not sure my video card is up to spec...Tails...really..wtf? Nice for those that care. AE..who actually uses AE for anything other than farming? Yes. People still farm AE. Deal with it.
The sad thing is, I'm sure that there was a lot of hard work involved in this issue. By itself, I'm sure the video upgrade was a lot of work and testing.
Eh. Maybe I need to take break. Been feeling for a while that I may need to move on. Dunno. I keep hoping that something will rekindle some interest. As it is, I'm just button mashing. To which I'm sure most of you will heartily agree.
Anyway. Now you've been subjected to the Mayor of Doomopolis' brief review of i17. -
As the Mayor of Doomopolis, I feel that I must issue a statment regarding the latest developments.
Based on the press release, it seems like GR has been semi-gutted. Why? Perhaps I am mis-remembering, but I thought that the Devs stated you could run a toon up in Praetoria? Not just a 1-20 sprint, then pick a side. I guess I was under the impression that this would be a new world as opposed to a co-op zone similar to Cimerora or RWZ.
Not that I think fragmenting the player base even more would be a great idea. It just seems like GR is turning into a buffed up costume pack.
If it is a co-op zone where toons from both sides can go and team from 1-50, that would be a reasonable compromise. Assuming that there is content available to support a 1-50 run. -
Hmm. When did I become Victorys' official voice of doom? Perhaps I should change my username to Archangel. (biblical reference, deal with it)
Quote:Flux, I'm just happy to have a shiny to be distracted by. GR could still be a bust, but new content is a Good Thing™.
No. Sorry. New content is an expected thing. Otherwise, I'd just buy FPS games every few months. And I seriously don't want to discuss the monthly sub. is just for maintenance crap. The free issue precedent was set long ago.
Even if they do the graphics update or content update. It will still be mid March before it is dropped. Testing and no updates during a event will see to that.
I'm a firm believer in TANSTAAFL. I also believe that noone gives away anything they believe has value and for which some sort of remuneration can be had. It can take an immediate form: Paying for your gasoline at the pump. A more lengthy process: Drug dealing. The first taste is free. After you're hooked, it costs you. Or a more amorphous form: The girl who finally gives it up with the expectation of a ring and a house with a white picket fence. (Yeah, this is a somewhat old reference. Again, deal with it)
If one assumes that the new content and the graphics update were initially to be in GR, the fact that they are now "giving" one of them away, does not bode well.
The obvious conclusion one could make is that NC now believes that GR will not sell well enough (or bring in enough new subs.) to cover the costs of marketing, manufacturing, and distributing. Therefore, they will just unbundle the various pieces of GR and push them out in various "free" issues.
Of course this is pure spectulation and there are too many unknowns to begin trumpeting about anything...
/loose the hounds! -
Hey look! A shiny! Over there! Yeah, in that direction...
*points in a completely random direction*
*sigh*
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." -
Honestly, I refuse to consider CoV a mistake. Conceptually, anyway.
Execution-wise, well, there have been many debates on that in the last 4+ years.
Personally, a lot of my growing dissatisfaction is the glacial pace of the updates.
I16 dropped in mid-September. I don't see I17 waiting in the wings. Particularly with the spring event absorbing 3 weeks of Feb.
That puts any possible issue update out until mid March at the earliest.
How many remember when NC bought the IP and said, "We're investing in COX. More updates, faster."?
Before anyone gets jumpy..
Now, I'm not saying they haven't invested in the game.
And for a while they held to the updates statement.
They did give the players a lot of the asked for changes/improvements.
However, anyone remember the time frame between I6 (CoV) and I7?
Somewhere on the order of 8 months.
*If* issue 17 were to drop in mid March, that would be a 6 month span.
I really don't want to hear that, "Oh, they're focusing all their energy/time on GR." comment.
Most people in industry have multiple projects to work on at any given time.
Assuming everyone in the game is going to purchase GR is foolish.
A lot of people didn't purchase CoV.
So ignoring part of your playerbase is probably not a wise business decision.
/rant
Grr. Didn't mean to end up ranting.
Sorry folks.
*kicks soapbox off to the side* -
Quote:Frankly, they should have done server merging years ago. Just before superbases.
Eh, that may have been a bit early.
I think making CoV an entirely separate game connected only by the PvP zones was a mistake.
Initially, it didn't seem that way, but after 4-5 months and i7 still nowhere on the horizon, it clearly was an issue.
The devs took 11 servers and for all intents doubled them without a corresponding increase in the playerbase. -
-
Mmmh. I loves me some speculation based on very little information.
I will make one assumption, based on past performance.
GR will contain content for a full run from level 1 to 40...
Just as CoH and CoV did when they were first released.
However, this all may be moot.
The extension of free server xfers has me worried for a couple of reasons.
1. The "Hey look! A shiny!" tactic the Devs have used repeatedly when things aren't going well and they are attempting to focus the player base attention elsewhere. Are things not going well in GR land and it may be delayed? Is GR suffering a bit from scope creep? Look at how anemic the last couple issues have been. Have the Devs been trying to shoehorn too much into GR to try to "Hit the ball out of the park"? Sadly, if there is noone left in the stands, did the home run actually happen?...
2. Is this a precursor to server consolidation? I don't know that this would happen before GR drops (assuming it doesn't end up being vapor-ware), but I'm sure migration patterns are being recorded. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, Victory is hemorrhaging people. Lack of any substantial new content, newer games, and a general 5.75 year old game malaise have all contributed to this issue.
Now please feel free to pick apart anything I've written...
