  1. Right now, we can rename CoH game bosses, as long as we put them into boss spawns and edit their text details there. But if you place this same boss into your custom group, any time it appears, all its text details default to the in-game ones (apart from the group name, IIRC). As far as I can tell, you can't rename/re-origin minions or LT's at all.

Of course, if you try to edit in-game enemies, it doesn't let you progress further than the first power select screen, long before you get to the ID screen. I dig why we can't edit their powersets/animations, but text details seem to be fairly innocuous and nowhere near the realm of game-breaking; while the appearance of in-game names in custom groups is certainly immersion-breaking.

It would be really REALLY nice if we could edit the text details of CoH critters in custom groups; give them some kind of drop down menu similar to the mission details, only in the custom group editor (for example).

Could we please, please, PLEASE get such a feature, Dev-folk?
...I'd have put "please" in the subject line, but the real estate up there was pricey. Thanks.

Time for Happy Fun Explanation Fun Time!

Okay, see, every power in every power set is its own entity...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, see, you're not telling me anything I don't already know. I didn't suggest making duplicate power sets for every color imaginable, and I chose not to do so for the very reasons you cite. I suggested giving players color choices by porting over the re-colored sets that already exist as player sets-- which, when/if they have to be tweaked, are already on the list to be tweaked anyway.

I'm not bringing up here the oft-floated idea of making multiple sets that are duplicates of one another, save the color. That wouldn't be true PC anyway, as it would require re-rolls for any character wanting to use any of the new colors, as opposed to being able to make the color changes to existing characters. But there are several characters I personally would be willing to do that for, regardless.

    [ QUOTE ]
...This adds a ton of extra work for him.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, yes, yes. But isn't it worth exploring in an effort to find a happy medium? There's no need to assume that what I suggested entails multiple new powersets covering every color in the rainbow for every power available.

I'm not looking to get into another PC debate. I had to get a new keyboard after the last one, I wore out so many keys. All I'm saying is that if there are available options where the effort involved is dwarfed in comparison to true PC, it's a bone that could be thrown to those of us who have since launch been denied anything related to power color customization.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
The plan, so far as I know, is for all appropriate sets to be ported in one form or another.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay, how about porting over the differently colored powersets? For example, the red Energy Assault set that Doms get? I've got heroes that are just screaming for red blasts. The blue/white blasts lose their allure after a while, and are just plain wrong for many concepts-- and I've conceptualized them as water blasts, wind blasts, etc. ...

I realize you guys have a blue=hero red=villains thing going, and I also realize that complete power color customization is a massive task. But porting over some of the existing, differently colored sets would make a lot of folks happy. I can think of at least three characters I'd re-roll if red blasts for heroes became a reality.

It doesn't get my yellow electricity or blue, white, and yellow FF sets here any quicker, but as far as PC goes, I'll take whatever I can realistically get.
  5. What a great thread.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, here's a great little piece:

    Half Life: Full Life Consequences

A Half-Life playing dad has an 8-year old son who wrote his own Half-Life fan fiction. The fanfic is then animated using Garry's Mod. Charming and hilarious (if a bit bloody).
  6. I just came in to say,

    WELL, WELL, WELL.

    OH, OH, OH.

    WHAT HAVE WE HERE?

I still dream of color customization, but they really pulled a rabbit out of the hat with this one.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
I was just wondering, would anyone be happy with a lesser version of power customization?

When I mean is that we're probably thinking of something with costume creator power, but as far as I can tell from what the Devs said, it's not going to happen any time soon. Instead, what if we got copies of current powersets with a different color "baked in"?

    For example:

Energy Melee (Red) - The current one.
Energy Melee (Blue) - What Luminary uses.
Energy Melee (Green) - Maybe taken from the Shivans.

    or

Broad Sword (Classic) - What we have now.
Broad Sword (Tech) - What the Knives of Artemis use
Broad Sword (Magic) - Maybe taken from the CoT or Necro pets.

    or

Invulnerability (White) - The Hero one.
Invulnerability (Black) - The Villain one.
Invulnerability (Gold) - A new one, for the shinyness.

That way we could still have some influence over how our powers look, but we wouldn't need to rewrite half the game to do it. A powerset is a powerset, this one is just another color.

Would we be happy with something like this? I'd be, but would you?

    [/ QUOTE ]

See, this is very much along the lines of what I was thinking about it. I've wondered if maybe the way to color customization is simply new powersets that are recolored versions of the old sets. You've brought up a good point that some of this stuff exists already, just not for PCs. The stumbling block for me on that idea though, is that it would only benefit new characters-- you can't re-choose your power sets in a respec.

But you've helped indicate which powersets would best benefit from coloring options; it's been correctly suggested that some sets probably wouldn't, such as Stone armor, etc. To me, the sets that benefit the most from color customization are the energy related ones: fire, electricity, energy, radiation, even dark. I'd love to see a white version of the dark set.
  8. Great jumping hornytoads, it's gone sticky. I don't believe it.
  9. You know, we always pronounce it TAA-lus, but in Jason and the Argonauts, they all pronounce it TAY-los-- and when I mention the giant metal man, I pronounce it that way, too. It never occurred to me to pronounce them the same.
  10. My Fire Blaster's -fly (he's a flier himself) is Ring of Fire. Doesn't do jack for immob in pvp, but the -fly works great. Chase a flyer into the sky, zap em with Ring of Fire, then Aim, BU and let the snipe follow them to the ground. Then I drop fly and see what's lying dead on the ground.

It's also one of only 2 powers I have taken (at 37) in the Fire secondary-- what I wouldn't give for a respec that allowed you to re-choose the secondary. So far, apart from the -fly of the mandatory Ring of Fire, the Fire secondary is useless in PvP. Heck, I wanted to take a pool power instead of Combustion, but it comes too early-- so when respeccing out of the Fire Secondary as much as I could, I actually took Flares instead. At least that's an attack that does something, as opposed to a weak PBAoE.

Dr. Doom does NOT have a huge scar. It's a small scar which he (in his evil vanity) could only percieve as disfiguring. It's when he put on the scalding hot mask fresh from the forge that his face got...well...let's just say "not pretty."

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was part of a What If... ? issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was done in Byrne's run on the FF, way more legit than a What-If. It annoyed me at first, then he got to the part where the red-hot mask burns his face (and he runs outside and shoves his face in the snow, loved that). But as long as he's good and ugly under there, I'm ok.
  12. Something I've been having fun with is using recall friend to teleport the acid mortar into mobs. Remember that recall friend can target any area within its range that you can see-- it is not dependent on your character's line of sight. I hide behind a corner, or under a ledge full of mobs, lay down the acid mortar where it can't aggro anything, then tp it into the group. It takes all the initial aggro, and I send my boys in on top of that.

Now if recall friend only had the cursor range that seeker drones do...

Not sure if its been pointed out, as this will aleviate those who have an SG but don't want to wear SG colors (As opposed to those that don't have a Supergroup)

You CAN (in the settings) make your supergroup mode costume exactly the same as your normal costume. It does allow you to default to the color it already is.

    That is all, thank you

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, it has been said before, but that still doesn't help those of us that don't want to change our emblem. Would Superman lose his S? Batman his Bat? Wonder Woman her eagle? Flash his lightning? And then replace that with a big J or something?

If anybody can add to this list-- Old X-Men, New Mutants and Fantastic Four-- any other comic SGs that all wear the same threads, I'd be very interested in that information...
  17. Personally, I have no problem with datamining, it's just what data is being mined. CoV players are going to be starting from scratch anyway; not much to be done about that (although I do think villains ought to get bases more easily than heroes; I just wish I knew what real estate agent they go to to find all those hollowed-out volcanoes).

Attaching prestige to "time spent in SG mode" penalizes those of us that saw no attraction in the offerings of SG mode, and had no idea that we could somehow be penalized for it in the future.

I'm Dark Star. I have a star on my chest. I don't wanna be Dark Cube!

...Alpha Flight. I knew I was forgetting one of my faves.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Just because you're in SG mode doesn't mean you automatically get Prestige. You still have to do things.

    [/ QUOTE ]

...But we HAVE been doing things. Lots of things. Check any of our badge lists. We just haven't been dressed like the Andrews Sisters when we were doing it! We team almost exclusively with our SG; it's only when no other SG members are online that we do PUGs. But once the SG list starts turning blue, we quickly team up and spend the rest of our play session fighting as a Supergroup.

I've always thought of the SG outfits as a nice option to have. For instance, my Kin/Elec speedster spent the other night in his SG outfit 'cause I arranged the colors into a cool patriotic design (red and blue are SG colors, my speedster has white in his personal outfit). I felt like it. After a while, I went back to the outfit that is so familiar to me and my teammates.

But if this parameter is implemented, it makes SG outfits almost mandatory. Soon, all we'll see are groups running around dressed alike. Individuality will officially be penalized, and we might as well toss our personal outfits out the window.

I wholeheartedly agree that SG bases should have some sort of attachment to the life of the SG. But to make it dependant upon what clothes you wear seems unnecessarily restrictive, quite contrary to the spirit of CoH, and degrading to its awesome costume creation system.
  22. If the datamining is going to be done, can't they instead look at total time that the SG has PLAYED together? Our SG teams up almost every night, and has for months. But we almost NEVER use SG outfits. We prefer the individuality of team members wearing the costumes they designed themselves. And yes, the chest emblems are a big deal to some of us.

When you look at comics, the supergroups that wear "team oufits" are actually few and far between. The only ones that spring to mind are the original X-Men, the original New Mutants, and the Fantastic Four. When you look at the Avengers, Justice League of America, new X-Men, Teen Titans, Defenders and Justice Society (and with research I'm sure I could come up with more), it would seem that "time spent in SG costumes" is a very poor indicator of the livelihood of a supergroup.

And I also agree with those that say that this is wholly unfair to those of us that never gave a thought to the fact that wearing SG costumes might some day carry some sort of weight.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    I don't get it.

We have umpteen-million posts on a large variety of issues in the Dev Response threads right now. The vast majority of them are asking the same questions - things like 'Please explain how you think Defiance is any good past L20', 'How is an Invuln tank supposed to survive without a dedicated defender following him around', 'How am I supposed to play my regen scrapper in a team when I have no defense, resistance, or ability to regen', etc. Why do they need to ask us for questions? There's a ton of them out there already, with no developer responses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I may be going out on a limb here, but maaaaayyyyyybe it's because all those questions follow the same pattern and tone: "How am I supposed to be teh uber when you guys make me teh gimp? Answer me that, Mr. Dev-man!"

There are ways to address concerns in a mature manner, and then there's just plain whiny butt griping. I wouldn't bother responding to them either, because there IS no satisfactory answer when 'questions' are so phrased; they are nothing but rhetorical traps.
