The arm came into contact with Acanous' field, and seemed to disappear, the portion that woukld have hit him appearing on the other side.
Oddly enough, it diddn't fall to the ground, and stilleregistered as attatched to the bot. It was as though the local reality was a stream, and Acanous had become a rock in that stream, parting the world, yet not harming it as it continued to flow normally around him.
The forcefield did little to dissuade his attacks. He knew that with enough negative energy applied, they would fall. The energy he had stolen aided him still, helping him to land blows as well as adding to thier damage, and he continued his assault. (Shadow Punch, Smite, Shadow Punch, Shadow Maul) -
The plasma flew toward Acanous in yet another lethal volley, scorching the air around them as they passed. The damaged, drained and burned sky raiders fell like rain around him as a look of grim determination crossed his face.
The plasma made contact with Acanous' gate field, and stopped cold in the air before dissappearing- reappearing on the other side of his field, and burning onward as though he wasn't there at all.
(Eye of the Magus, only Acanous style it'd be a full gate-envelopment)
Frowning, he looked up at the 'bots.
"That's it. No more games."
Darkness blurred as Acanous appeared in the bots' formation, a circle of the black-on black negative energy appearing around him, sucking the light, heat, and energy from everything around him (Soul Drain)
"This Ends NOW!"
Pulling his fists back, he unleashed them in a dazzling display of what looked like speed, although it was actually small alterations of local time, his fists pummelling into the 'bots with the forces he had absorbed.
(So far as I know, I've only rezzed twice >.> -
Meanwhile, back in Steel Canyon, quite the opposite was happening.
An unseen quantum vortex was leeching energy from the Sky Raiders, the Skiffs, even the jump bots, and rebuilding Acanous from a sub-atomic level.
The force of the void lifted his body into the air, filling him with power- it even fixed his armour.
Depositing Acanous back on the ground gently, a light breeze was the only trace anything had really happened at all.
Well, that, and Acanous was standing there, apperently unharmed, and restoring his shielding. -
((I'd tos Acanous in here, as he really does think rather deeply in the rational and theological, but he's in 2 other RP's, so he's busy at the moment >.>)
-
((And here I thought something happened.
Lol angus, double post :P)) -
Masamune isn't a type of blade, it is a named katana.
Also, copywritten.
Like the carnie mallet tho -
Time resumed for Acanous, he watched as the missiles made contact with his gate shields, slowing down and beginning to explode as though in still-frame. The blooms of crimson on the obsidean of his negative armour would have made for a beautiful picture.
Too bad it hurt so freaking much.
Outside of his area, it looked like the missiles had all simply impacted and exploded in normal time. The gate was inverted, and things INSIDE were what was slowed.
It gave Acanous the few seconds he needed to brace for the impact. Fire rushed at him from almost every direction, bits of shrapnel impacting on his armour (The costume, not the dark veriety) and forming rivets in the plastisteel.
Surprisingly, the Raiders diddn't seem to notice the bloom at first, and several skiffs fired Sidewinders off at something else.
Acanous' problem was, the sidewinders were heatseeking. And with that big cloud of burning doom enveloping him, he was pretty much the hottest thing on the block.
He closed his eyes as he let his shields drop, knowing he'd need every ounce of his streingth and concentration to pull himself back from the brink of annihilation.
in that instant, the skiff missiles impacted with the exploding Protector Bot missiles, exploding themselves, and changed a wave into a veritable typhoon of fire and flying metal. Anything too close was simply consumed by the flame. Acanous could smell something burning, and realised it was his own flesh under what remained of his armour.
He tried to close his eyes, to block out the erupting carnage as men were baked alive around him, but his eyes were bloated and sore from the searing heat, unable to close.
Not feeling the heat anymore, not really feeling anything but cold-his nerves had been burned closed- he began falling back to the street below, using what remained of his consiousness to draw succor from the energies around him, to bolster his beliefs and striengthen his faith.
He'd need it if he was going to recover from this.
With a sickening snap, he hit the ground, bits of blackened and burning meat and gristle spattering around him.
((Acanous activated Soul Transfer while in the air, so the raiders are the targets, not the bots. He'll get back up next post. I do believe I just soaked the damage for Target.)) -
((Put him in the bag of Charactor holding and go about your business as though he was there, but unnoticed by everyone >.>)
-
((Dang. Soviet hasn't said anything regarding me. :/ Ah well. Guess I'll have to hijack some of his sky raiders to NPC in order to keep the fight moving.
Also, gratz on 50.))
Anthius had been watching the robot carrying him, searching for a way out. Extradimensional fields weren't normally his thing, but everything obeyed the same set of rules in the end.
It had occurred to him that the robot had to renew the field every so often. Apperently, it couldn't simply keep a live energy field, as that would be a weak point. Having to re-establish the field, however, meant that it DID weaken, and also, that the robot couldn't put one field inside another.
That meant that there would be an instant in which he could escape, and for the Archangel, an instant would be all he would need. He began vibrating in place, building up speed for when an opening presented itself, as well as causing small revrberations in the air- he would be able to feel it when the shield dropped.
((Ac's part to be added in a bit)) -
((Gratz on being almost 50. Bug me when you get there, lol))
-
((Whoa, hey Angus, what are YOU still doing up? get bored of teaming with that noobtroller?))
-
the second one wasn't bad, actually. But of course, due to the failure of #1, never made it to theaters, and came out streight to video
-
((Ok, so it's more soviet than you. I have to wait on him posting a reaction, then on Krazy posting a reaction, then I can post, and my next post may provoke an attack of opportunity from you. Wait, that's DnD...))
-
((Dogma, you're "Inside" the base, but the wall was blown apart, and part of the ceiling collapsed, and the floor got melted by Krazy's robots. So it LOOKS like outside, really, but it WAS inside the base proper.
And TeChamelion and Soviet haven't noticed my interaction whatsoever ;_; at least if those raiders are zipping around, changing formation and the like, there's a better chance that one of them would catch a missile meant for me >.>) -
((Well, TeC, Acanous just leaped into the group of Sky Raiders chasing target. Acanous is stealthed, sort of, and there's a group of robots raining hell on his position with lazers and AoE missiles. The raiders have yet to react, and Krazy and I both have to wait on you and theSoviet before we can continue ))
-
So far, everything had gone exactly to plan. The robots reacted exactly as they had earlier, with a full on assault that would decimate him, the street, and propably nearby infastructure.
That's why he had teleported to where he did, within easy hopping distance of the Sky Raiders above him.
Jumping in a literal leap of faith, the missiles streaking after him, and the heat of the plasma starting to leak through his dark shields, he positioned himself smack in the middle of the Sky Raider patrol, hoping that the cluster of soldiers would buffer some of the damage off of him- or that thier shielding might deflect some of the rockets altogether.
Either way, those raiders were going to notice, and hopefully the explosion would hide Acanous in the violent chaos that would erupt.
Time seemed to freeze as he cherished the moment; the missiles streaking towards him, the sky raiders around and behind him, and the bots in front of him. He smiled, his mouth forming the words he knew that the robots, with thier enhanced optics, would see:
HAX! -
((Well, methinks that it's the perfect situation for Ac's first signature move ))
Finding himself being hamster-balled by the robots, Acanous decided that was quite enough.
I hope nobody in a 700 kilometer radius needs an EMT any time soon
As he was lifted into the air, he grasped the hilt of the shortsword on his back, it's mirrored scabbard shining as black lightning began seeping out of the small gap between the blade and the scabbard.
Acanous thought one last time about what he was about to do, then grit his teeth and drew the sword that marked his status as keeper of the Third Gate, the locks that held it in place on his back popping open as the Black-beyond-Black blade met with the air.
Some called it Planereaver for what it did.
Infidels called it Godslayer, for it had slain many who had made that claim.
Mages of great power across the planes called it the Sword of Justice, from the inscription that laced the crossguard, "He who holds me wields Justice"
Acanous knew it by only by it's title, the Gatesaber.
Even Acanous was buffetted by the vortex of energies that accompanied it's release, contained as he was in the bubble of extradimensional space. burns he knew would later scar crisscrossed his forearm, even through his mirrored impervium gauntlets.
"You seek to imprison the Keeper of Space, the Guardian of Aern, He who shall not be bound."
Bringing the pulsating rip in space and time that made up the blade of the saber to bear, he pointed it at the bubble of the detention field.
"Know that no door may bar me"
he pressed it into the bubble, as sparks of energy began flying in every direction, that which cut holes through space and time was parting the bubble like a curtain
"No wall may stop me"
he flicked his wrist, sending a ripple through the bubble, collapsing it around him like a mirage
"And no one may stay my hand"
Spiraling downwards, on the outside of the wall, he dissappeared, then re-appeared on the ground outside, sliding the blade back into it's scabbard, pain evident in his eyes.
Across the city, monitors that flashed "Signal lost" on every emergency teleporter screen suddenly blinked back to "Status normal"
((Yup, drew it to dispel the phase shift, diddn't even use the attack )) -
Knowing what these robots were capable of- from last time this happened, Acanous took stock of his situation, appraising the area from a combat standpoint.
The wall was blown out, which left a reasonable route to open air. Acanous hated aerial combat, but hopefully the robots wouldn't know that. They'd propably expect him to try running that way.
He shot a glance around the room, noting a door, badly damaged, that lead out into a long hallway. Perfect for breaking line of sight and forcing them to come at him one at a time, but it might incur further structural damage to the building if they decided to just blast away untill they got him.
From the dust in the place, Acanous was pretty sure the building was empty, especially being in a war zone like Steel Canyon... but if there was anyone on the street, he couldn't risk toppling a building.
He took a long look outside, ensuring that the robots noticed what he was doing, hoping that they thought he was searching for possible escape routes when he was actually looking for innocent bystanders.
That's when he saw the Sky Raiders.
so they weren't all defeated in the attack? hmm.. or maybe these are from a different squad. No matter, they have no love of Arachnos either way. I could turn this to my advantage...
He did miss, however, the archer they were chasing.
His plan clicked into place, he coiled himself like a spring, and waited for the field to drop... -
wow, that's some serious necropost power.
-
Lost in thought and heavy concentration, Acanous almost diddn't notice when the wall came rushing towards him, fire and debris moving into the dark energy coating him, then appearing again on the other side, his neat little fold in space protecting him from most forms of damage. The dust stirred up would start to bother him, though, as soon as he needed fresh air.
What DID catch Acanous' attention was the sudden brightness.
Looking up, he noticed that the same robots from before had managed to follow him.
have to check for a tracer before heading back to base
Again, a detention field settled over him. He welcomed the reprieve, at least no dust would be getting in through that.
Turning, he looked for Anthius among the rubble, certain that the Archangel's celerity would have spared him from the blast, but worried anyway.
Mentally, he counted the seconds, timing it against the last time he had been DT fielded, and engaging the rest of his defences. -
((*Cough* Wall Asplodes!))
(Man, I'm gonna have to get me and anth paired up with Bladewing and E-X sooner rather than later >.> -
(Dangit, I actually READ all the 1337 that Bwerp posted, and there was nothing cool in there that I could use later. )
Acanous' eyes went wide at Anthus' words, the relatively normal way he said it doing nothing to stop Acanous' world from rocking.
Acanous began drawing the energies of the gate around him once more, checking and re-checking the equasions that could protect him from even the most potent magic, or rend his molecules and scatter them on the solar winds.
"Well, Anth, I came here after the Eternal wars. Pretty much just to relax a while. Diddn't origionally intend to stick around very long, but you know how it is, I got wrapped up in the battles, the plots, the people... Eventually the place grew on me. I took some time away from here to restore the balance in another realm, and when I came back, the place had gone right to hell. I don't know if it's part of some bigger plot to get at me, it seems pretty damn conveniant that I get called away just before a huge powergrab here, but I can't leave untill I know for sure. Death walks behind me."
It wasn't as though he was one of the faithless, no, he believed, and more solidly than most. Acanous' hope would be hard to quash.
After all, it was The Lord who had granted Acanous his second chance at life, and guerunteed that it would be exceptionally long. He propably had something to do with Acanous' changed view of the world-that which allowed him to control the Gate also adapted his mind easilly to any situation.
Driving a Keeper insane was impossible, as Sanity diddn't begin to apply to those who could shape the energies of the Third Gate, charged with protecting the very fabric of the multiverse from that which was..without.
But something seemed pretty determined to try. Losing those he had begun to care about here in Paragon while he was busy restoring Toril seemed a pretty open shot at him.
Thusly, if one of the Lord's own had been personally ordered to look out for Acanous' sorry hide, something was coming. Something that Acanous would have no hope of taking on by himself.
Something Big.
Something very, very bad...
((Wall asplodes!))
