Empaths, for example, are basically playing with one power set, their blasts, and an astoundingly weak set at that.
[/ QUOTE ]A self-heal on a 4 second timer that replenises a quarter of your health, Instant Healing, and Stamina on Crack are not to be sneezed at. -
I thought Geek_Boy was from Somethingawful. O.o
Anyway. All told, looking the thread over, there are some folk here who seem upset that something they like doesn't bear up to critical analysis. That's okay. There are people who critically analysing something and finding what look like lots of legitimate problems.
And then there are people who are mad at either of these two groups, both of whom are doing something reasonable. Look, if you don't like thinking about or studying your entertainment, that's okay. There are whole cavalcades of things for you. There's every film Michael Bay's ever made, the works of Jerry Bruckheimer, and so on. But there's nothing wrong with demanding intelligence from your entertainment. This arc, from what I've gathered, instead is pretentious - a cardboard shell around a potentially interesting idea, executed novelly enough to interest those who don't want to think much about it.
As far as I'm concerned, the real embarassment here is not the people who are studying the arc and providing their working and their evidence and their reasoning for why they don't like it. It's the kind of people who are making it an emotional issue, the people saying things like 'You disgust me,' and 'Why's everyone so nasty?'
It's okay to argue. It's okay to yell. If the author is a good author, they'll take what they've learned and create even better things in the future. Though I wish people would stop asking people who make it a duty to provide criticism to provide them with their criticism and then deny the criticism. -
Anyone know if there's a distinction in the squishiness of various destructable objects? Do some objects blow up easily, others hard?
Also, is there any way to make a 'Defeat a Boss' mission objective spawn a lone minion instead of a boss? -
I still haven't seen proof, in my experience, that in non-farm settings, controllers are in any way scarier than blasters or scrappers or brutes. Sure, when they have a very precisely configured map, fire/kins can blast through things at a huge pace, but it's not like actual gameplay involves that configuration.

Redside needs more love. That's not exactly a mystery.

True, but I do not understand why stalkers are so unpopular? With the recent changes to stalkers I find them very enjoyable to play with.
[/ QUOTE ]Early slot crunch, maybe? I know I'm very discouraged with my level 29 stalker, wondering if I should recreate him as a less slot-intensive combination. -

There only purpose was to show myself what's gonna rock against pylons and AVs.
[/ QUOTE ] And they're pretty much great for that. I am getting a little fed up with people mentioning them in-game or on other forums as a balance discussion, though. Ah well, whatcha gunna do? -

You're comparing optimal DPS charts. Since players are not natively flowing into these states

I call BS on this, but whatever.
[/ QUOTE ]I know this is going to be hard for you to believe, but you are not the natural evolution of playing well.

While this isn't news to me at all, please share with us, oh brilliant one, what would be an example of that? I'm dying to here more of your pearls of CHV wisdom.
[/ QUOTE ]If you're going to be snippy, I'm not going to help.
But in all seriousness, you and pretty much every person who's posted in this thread is an outlier. There's no reason to believe the way you guys would play and build (and remember, you did trade damage SOs for recharge SOs 'because we would do that') is something that spreads across the gaming community.
This is an interesting study for people like yourselves to consider when looking at builds. It's an interesting study in disproving certain canards (like the bloo-bloo-blooing about EM). It's definitely interesting because of some of the things it's shown about how specific people regard the skilled mechanics in this game vs the unskilled mechanics.
But I think it's meaningless to hand to Castle as evidence of an actual problem. -

Does sleeping the AVs in LRSF require power boost?
[/ QUOTE ]No. But powerboost makes the sleep last a lot longer, which means that you have more chances to layer it, and more leeway in case you miss.
The mind/fire should do the job just fine. -

Can anyone prove that defenders need an across-the-board-buff?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I can.
0=1
There's your proof.
And it's TRUE TOO! Seriously.
[/ QUOTE ]I read it on the internet! -
Ice, earth, and plant all notify. That's a given. Anything notifies, and things that don't notify are exceptions. Mass Hypnosis doesn't notify.
Earth and plant do no damage, so they can be stacked; but ice does do damage, so it can't be stacked (its damage breaks its own sleep). This makes the ice one worse still because the sleep applies a split second after the damage, giving the AV time enough to fire off something. -

This thread sums up my reasons for never suggesting anything again. Instead of offering constructive criticism, people just come in and say "ur idea suks and so do u."
[/ QUOTE ]'Can you prove this is useful or necessary' isn't a useful question to ask?
Wait. You said 'needs.' And you put it in bold. Can't argue with that. -
[ QUOTE ]
Any of the major AoE sleeps with dom up can knock out AVs at least for a little while. Ice and Earth both have AoE sleeps, but both have double the recharge of mass hypnosis, so I don't know if you can actually keep the AVs perma slept.
[/ QUOTE ]The ice one is unstackable because it deals damage, and the earth one is PBAOE. Neither are good for the task compared to Mass Hypnosis, which also doesn't aggro. -

People are so god damn touchy around here...
[/ QUOTE ]Physician, heal thyself.
My point was that a buff to vigilance would be a global buff to defenders. And I don't see them needing it. If it got even better in teams, I really don't see any defender needing that. Is it really that hard to grasp? Is that somehow unreasonable to consider worth consideration? -

Spellcheck is your friend.
[/ QUOTE ]It's 2 am and I've had a day full of bad news. Spellcheck can gargle me.
And it's still outlier behaviour. You're comparing optimal DPS charts. Since players are not natively flowing into these states, and one requires a required and attained skill to maintain, it's meaningless to compare A to B and say either is a problem. -

Let's play a game. How many wizards/mages have you ever heard of that cast weakass spells?

I don't see defenders whining that they're ineffective on teams.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am specifically referring to Vigilance.
[/ QUOTE ]Which is part of defenders and which makes up the overall power level of defenders.
If you think vigilance needs a buff on principle, you have clearly not been paying attention to the last three years of the game, and if you think that defenders need more incentive to team you haven't played one. -
I think the actions of a handful of extremist outliars is not and should not be considered a meaningful data point. As Arcanaville has said - the devs can just hope to keep you guys from going too insane.
