  1. Samuel Tow, I could continue to debate the issue, but frankly, I think you just get a kick out of bashing CO to make yourself sound authoritative. Most of you forum cartel folks seem to think you're the only ones that know what's going on and the only voices that should be heard. I don't have time to play to egos. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I would rather have more freedom with more chances of failure than to not have freedom and have little to no chance to win.

Failure provides the opportunity to learn and improve!

The other complaint was mainly that the face fell face first (pun intended) into the uncanny valley of somehow just not looking right, I managed to tweak the sliders enough that they stopped looking like a 'living action figure' and more like a person.
At first glimpse of the CO faces I thought OMG, these faces don't look real! It was so much of an initial downer for me that I wasn't going to buy the game unless I could make faces as good as the ones in this game! I was very please that when I started to work with it, that I could make great faces on par with the ones here as well as cartoony ones.

CO had a LOT of tech based options and...well that was pretty much it, so sure it had more options than CoH but your actual options if you wanted to make a tights wearing spandex superhero were actually WORSE than CoH (the number for patterns on tights was positively tiny). They had better tech options and they had better animal options but for general superheroics the options were very slim.
To a point I do agree with this, there a lot of tech items in the inventory there. Though I didn't point this out specifically, I did say that in some areas CoH/V inventory it has more items than CO -- superheroic items is one of the areas I'm talking about and said as much in previous posts here. However, I think that reason why there is so much tech in CO may be due to player demand. The tech in that game seems to be design around mecha in anime and manga and there has been many requests over the years here for that -- CO just went overboard filling that niche.

Just as many here feel that CO doesn't have as much costume inventory or that the inventory is slanted to a specific genre, I feel that there's not enough in this game and it's slanted to much to a specific genre -- mystical.

And many people who have used it find it to be a confusing mess. Unless you want to count votes, do try to avoid vague statements like this.
Just because you write a wall of text to explain your point doesn't make it anymore valid than what I have to say. You initial statement was just as vague because we both don't have numbers to back up what we're saying. All I know is that the costume creator in CO is not confusing to me others I've talked to and some players who post on their forums about it.

And, yeah, you can use the facial sliders to make different racial identities... Of the same face. In Champions Online, you have a choice between that one face, or something that doesn't look human.
This is your opinion! I and others simply may have more ability than you. I can make more one than face! Should I be limited because you're unable to make more than one face?

    Quote:
There AREN'T more costume options, that's the whole point. I went into the game expecting to be deluged in zillions of costume options and... I just wasn't.
Now you're being silly! That game has way more options than this game! I will agree that this game, in some areas, has more than CO, but overall they definitely have more and there's more that you can do to most of the mods and texture there.

Ignoring for the moment the fact that this is such an exaggeration it borders on a bold-faced lie, have you even taken a look at Rate My Champion, like, ever at all? Logged into Champions Online? Not only are the costumes I see unashamedly ugly (which turned out to be the players' fault, not a shortcoming of the game, surprisingly), but most are practically a variant on the same basic "tights" costume or the same basic "ninja" costume.
Yeah, so what! There's always going to be people that make similar costumes. The point I was making earlier is that we don't get enough new items here and that is part of the reason that in this game there is a lot of similarity. Take a moment and look through our threads here and you'll see many players asking for more costumes not because they just want more costumes, but because there hasn't be a lot added over the years.

Why the HELL does a game which allows me to customize the sclera of my eye separate from my pupil not allow me to customize my God damn sleeves?
Rome wasn't built in a day! I've afforded this same philosophy here in CoH/V and I've been pleasantly surprised that over time the Devs here have come through on many things that I wanted in game. I afford the same for Champions, hopefully over time you'll get to customize your sleeves there.

I agree with this to a point, howerever, I don't think it is as bad as Samuel Tow makes it out to be because many of the players over there don't appear to be having difficulty creating great costumes! This leads me to conclude that they're locating items just fine.
  6. Samuel Tow, I have to disagree with you on CO's costume creator. You say that it's not intuitive, but many of us that have used their creator haven't had the issues that you've had.

The sliders are very easy to figure out because you can see their effects on the model. I've been able to make a myriad of faces that represent different racial types, old and young, exagerated and cartoony.

As far as the menu system for selecting inventory, there may need to be some restructuring, but it's no less than what we've have had in the past and continue to have with this game. It may take longer to create costumes because there are many options, but overall it give players the ability to create unique looking characters. There are still posts on this forum requesting a costume selection break out of certain costume items -- belt and tails for example. Too often in this game I see players with the same costumes just colored differently!

Finally, more items and options may seem daunting at first, but as time goes on and players become more aware what is available in the creator inventory, having more items and options becomes a asset not a liability.

There are lots of great costume mods in this game that if they were re-textured would make a wealth of new items for the inventory. The Sinister boots, for example are great, but they only have one texture assigned to them.
  8. Thanx Gang!

I was going for a Shield-esque look for this mockup, that's why the costume is rather simple. A RL friend didn't like the Reistance emblem, which prompted me to try and make it look cool in a mockup. Plus, I wanted to use some real guns as props.

I like bushy brows, that's because my brows look like a drag queens been at em!
  9. I'm hoping that we can mix and match our guns in GR, because I want something like this:

    I couldn't resist!
  10. You kinda have to brace for impact when you read one of Jay's post!

  13. I'm at work and our wonderful firewall won't let me see!
  14. I'm happy for all of the promoted and the new arrivals!!!
  15. I would like to hear some new information on GR too. I'm hoping that when the folks here do provide more info, that there are some cool surprises announced in the release as well!

It didn't take a month do it (approx. 1 hour), I've been mega lazy of late!

I was trying to make a stylish bolero for a dude! With a name like "Castle" I felt it should have a regal look to it.
  17. Oooo, it's been awhile! Well, here's my take on Castle!

    Jay is next!
  18. I'm deeply saddened by the fact that my toons are not getting their moble ICON and Facemaker platforms to change my on the go heroes and villains! I feel in my imaginary mind that I was promised by the Devs this as a 6 year vet reward! Did I tell you all I forgot to take my meds today!

Capes (and auras) do not cause network latency, they cause a decrease in frame rate on the client-side. But really pale in comparison to just rendering player models by themselves. Keep in mind that my test used 100 copies of the same NPC. Same geometry, same textures, etc. That would be a radically different result with multiple NPC costume defs, or worse...player costumes.

Very interesting indeed! I wonder how accurate can that be in determining how player costumes change the frame rate?
  20. So how is CoH really doing? Well, I hope that its doing very well. There are some good points made throughout this thread, but my concern is how players are perceiving the health of our game. I've notice, of late, that there have been more posts about this. Charts and other measures may be great for figuring out how the game is doing; however, many players are not going to go to that extent to determine the game's health. Many players are not going to come to the forum to use it as a resource, so these metrics that have been presented by posters will not serve them. Perception is a big deal and some folks are perceiving that the game is not as robust as it has been or touted to be.

Whether players are simply not playing because of the economy or waiting for GR, some of our player base may not be as savvy, for whatever reason, to make those determinations and may leave because they feel/think the population of the game is not there. This should be of concern to the marketing department for CoH/V. Hopefully it is and they'll soon address these concerns.
  21. As far as the costume creator goes, I'm amazed at how few costume textures we get on average. I know that costume mods are way more time consuming and they have to be tested for clipping issues, but this is not the case for textures. I'm not only going to cite CoH/V for not providing enough of these because CO has this same issue as well. I don't fault the creative team for this because when we do get costume items they are always great -- I think, like with most businesses, they simply may not be afforded the time to crank out items like that. In addition there have been staffing issues in the past that has caused problems for the Devs. I've seen post in the past about how it is better to have content all come out in large updates/expansion, but I think this is a mistake for a superhero/villain game (at least how it relate to costume options). The powers that be in this game really need to rethink the frequency of something as easy to create as flat costume textures.

The booster packs are getting better and better and as I've stated in previous posts, I can understand these being microtransaction because of the work that goes into them. On the other hand, textures should freely be made available to augment the creator and give players more visual versatility to their characters.

This has been a pet peeve for a while now and it has become even more so since CO has launched.
  22. I've been playing primarily on Freedom and Virtue for the last 2 years. So I migrated some of my characters to those servers. I still have some on Guardian and Pinnacle and hopefully there will be more activity on those servers after the server transfers are done.

I really don't want the devs to spend a thousand manhours to build a zone that has no reason to exist when we have plenty of zones already.
I don't know if a whole series of new zones are needed, but I think the problem with the zones is there is not much to do in them other than going to one mission to the next. I'm not sure if it's because the instanced mission are better for the game, but when you move through the zones it's very little going on. Sure you have mobs everywhere, but they aren't doing much either. There should be micro events going on all the time to give reason why Paragon City needs heroes and why the Rogue Isles is where villain conspire to do evil! The occasional monster or Rikti and zombie invasions is just not enough.
