Quote:Not that this point hasn't been made before, but I think it's worth highlighting again. You can replace Steel's name with anyone's and their situation and it still applies. I absolutely understand that RL takes priority and can mean less time for game related events. I absolutely agree that if people want to step up and try it for themselves, they should. And I wholeheartedly agree that raiders shouldn't rely on one person.Due to his commitment towards work/school and the state of the Brigade was rolling into, I'm not surprised that his focus was elsewhere than leading a raid. Point being, Steel will not go out with an unprepared team just to satisfy you or others. Could you or anyone else not have done something similar dealing with "Gulliver's Reign"? I had believed that raids cold be led by anyone and not by a specific group or person. Someone could had stepped up and tried it for themselves, not rely on Steel only to do so.
I know I've said it before, but let's not lose sight of the interest shown in this thread. The more people willing to step up, the less it means that one person or a group of people will be responsible for making regular raids happen, so when RL does come up for those people, it doesn't mean we have to take breaks. -
Very nice! I haven't been over to the Base Construction forums in a while, so glad to see some nice work posted here.

Quote:I found a better example for you in the Virtue forums if you'd like to take a look. It was conveniently posted yesterday in their main Hami thread. (I've checked in there before for more current information, but the last post was in 2009.)Ok I haven't been to a blueside raid in forever. To be honest I can't even remember the last one. I know it was pretty much the same strategy and not evac-less the last one I did attend. So I am intrigued to say the least and need to see what you guys are doing. Twenty -30 minutes evac-less with no shivans nukes sounds feasible and I have seen that. 18 Minutes (which I thought I had read 12 minutes) seemed a bit too fast with no extra help. So I hope these get back scheduled on a regular basis so I can see what has changed in technique.
Quote:Virtue's Hammy raids can typically be finished well under an hour, with the core part taking as short as 15 minutes. Generally, it's best to have at least 40 active participants with adequate AT spread for a painless experience. -
Quote:The 18 minute evac-less raid was done with no nukes, or 'gimmicks' other than people working together exceptionally well that night and having an ideal mix of ATs that happened to show up. Since the first evac-less raid we tried, we've continued to use it as a strat on a regular basis. Our times generally range from 20 to 30 mins from entry into the jello to merits/HOs. This is not unlike other servers. I'll use an example posted by someone on Guardian:I also read the shivan/nuke comment as a reference to the 12 minute evac-less raid post. I am assuming for 12 minutes something extra must have been used thus why the clarification was necessary.
Quote:Originally Posted by WulfmanCongratulations to everyone who came out to raid tonight. We were able to get started right on time, had a quick spawn, and then shattered the public non-nuke raid record (formerly 28 minutes) with an amazing 25-minute raid. Kudos to everyone who participated! -
I think this issue of who did the first evac-less raid on Champion is irrelevant in light of the fact that just about every raiding server does evac-less raids and has been doing them long before we started using the evac-less strat on a regular basis. So if anything, it was by talking to leaders on other servers and participating in their evac-less raids that the idea was influenced and implemented. The method was further shaped by our own experiences as a server, so the idea as a whole has many sources. I do, however, believe in acknowledging raid leaders of the past, since there are quite a few people who raid now that weren't around then. So thanks for all efforts, past and present, since ultimately raid experience contributes to the knowledge we have about them in general.
Quote:Just reading this reminded me how the strat itself hasn't changed much, but after raiding for quite a while, we've streamlined the teams so that so much support isn't necessary for teams like yellow taunt. Thankfully, this frees up spots for other ATs people might want to bring, even for evac-less raids.I have to DISAGREE with this statement cobalt! You were present when I ran my "Gulliver's Reign" strategy and the brigade held most of taunt (6 tanks) on yellow mitos with support (6 empaths) and roving kinetics (2 kin) - this was a no retreat strategy back when most were very accustomed to running back to the rocks and you said to me directly that you didn't see it working out - but were optimistic and curious to see how it went.

Funny you mention that, because I was thinking maybe Tanker Tuesday would like to do something like this.

Who
Last week, we got to see some melee muscle. This week, we'll get our pewpew on! I'm looking for ATs with a dedicated blast set. Thus, bring one of the following ATs to this week's Pee Wee PvP Night:
- Blaster
- Defender
- Corruptor
- Dominator
- Kheldian
- Fortunata
When
Sunday August 1st, 2010 @7:30pm EST in Pocket D!
Format
A minimum of 3 ten minute matches set to Flyweight (level 6 to 11) with the following settings:
- No Travel Suppression
- No Heal Decay
- No Travel Powers
- Small Inspirations Only
As per usual, matches will include FFAs, small teams, large teams, and perhaps we'll give Capture the Flag another go. (I think the flag would switch teams a lot faster with this bunch of toons).
P.S. Don't feel bad if a certain AT wasn't listed for this week! The theme will change each week and some weeks will include all available ATs. So stay tuned!
Registration
The event will start as close to 7:30pm EST as possible so please arrive a few minutes early in Pocket D and send a tell to @Amygdala. I will then invite you to the match so I can see how many people we're working with.
Hope to see you there! -
Actually I do, just not on this server at the moment.
And while I wouldn't mind transferring it or rolling another toon on this server for the sake of the event, I don't necessarily want to impose this on casual participants. I also like the idea of having a mix of hero and villain ATs at each event so each side is represented.
So for now, I'm going to keep it on the flexible side. However, if there's a lot of support for a single AT night, I'll definitely look into it. -
-
Thanks everyone that came out. I hope you all had fun! I thought it was hilarious watching everyone in a huddle.
Here are some pictures I took of our melee mayhem.
-
Reminder that this is tonight, melee toons only, at 7:30pm EST in Pocket D! Going to try to start promptly so if you can arrive a few minutes early that would be appreciated.

Sorry I missed it this week, had a wedding to go to.
Congrats to the winners! -
Quote:I'm glad you posted this, because there seems to be a misconception here. No one needs to be 'appointed' by anyone. All that needs to be done, if you want to lead a raid, is post it, set a time, get some people together and have an understanding of the strat. It's wide open to anyone who wants to give it a shot. No one owns Hami.Alrighty then it seems that as a whole WE WANT hammi raids.
It also seems that people respect your lead and you have a following.
If you want to pass the torch we need to continue raiding and appoint new leaders for future raids.
The new leads need to have your support or the server wont follow.
If I started to broadcast that I was going to run a Raid will I have the outcome that you have had in calling for a raid. No, cause people dont know me as a raid leader. I dont even think they know my emp from the raids.
Champs server has been my home for my tenure in COH. All of you are my neighbors and friends. We are this community.
I wish that all this back and forth would end and we could get on with doin more raids.
It's my personal opinion that a system where the responsibility falls on the same people week after week is a recipe for burn out. From this thread, it seems that there are enough people able, willing, and interested in leading raids and there's technically no reason why we can't have weekly raids where people show up and offer to lead teams.
I'm willing to support anyone who wants to step up and try it, in whatever way they would like me to. If they would like to talk to me about my experiences, I'd be more than happy to do that. It's true the general strat hasn't changed drastically, but there are things we've tried over the past year and a half that really helped smooth things out and cut down on the overall time. If they'd like to figure some stuff out for themselves, I can also respect that. Just let me know. Whoever it is, whatever they choose, I'm all for people trying it out for themselves. -
Quote:It's very exciting to see people taking an interest. As others have posted, this Sunday will be melee themed. I'm going to try to switch the theme up each time, so if melee doesn't work for you, chances are something will come up that does.I have never been a big fan of pvp although i have tinkered with it at times... i just dont have the knack for it i guess. But with that said, this sounds fun. sounded fun the first time i saw this event posted. I will try this out and see if it grows on me to attempt more pvp stuff. I have a lowbie blaster i can bring for this. Or i can make something else. sign meh up!

Don't worry about the lack of experience, as there are lots of people available to ask if you need help. A willingness to learn is most important.

Quote:I saw this trailer recently at the movies and thought the same thing. I mean, it can't be a movie if it's not in 3D, right? It's in LAST YEAR'S film technology, too. Their film-fu is weak. All movies, even dance movies, shall hence forth be in 3D.
Also, I'm not sure which dance move it is they're talking about that can change the world, but it's definitely not the running man. Studies show that the running man results in backs turning and eyebrows raising 60% of the time, every time. This percentage increases with the amount of effort expended. So whoever is keeping track of 'world peace inducing dance moves', they can cross it off the list.
I want to call them up and tell them to forget the 3D, the world needs saving and Ping's the only man for the job! -
I thought of starting a thread like this a little while ago, but using names of powers, since some of them are...suggestive.
These were the ones I thought of.
"You look like the type that could help me slot my Power Thrust."
"If you show me your Spirit Tree, I'll show you my Lightning Rod."
"Wanna get some badges and [censored] later?...What?...You're not a badge hunter?"
and finally...
"How YOU doin'?" (Ok not Paragon themed, but makes me laugh!)

Quote:Great post.Next to the first successful raid on this server, this raid was my favorite. Not because it was a particularly amazing raid, or because of anything I'd done myself, but because it demonstrated just what this server community can do as a whole when differences get put aside. Everyone may have had different reasons for participating, but the end result was the same. It reminded me of the fact that Supermans greatest power (according to him) isnt super strength, or invulnerability. Its his friends. And this community has those in spades No SG, no matter how willful or angry, can beat that.

Seeing people come together to accomplish a common goal is one of my favourite aspects of raiding. -
He was there last time.
Why didn't you notice, huh huh huh? -
I'd be willing to help out blueside. I've got Recall Friend and the Vet TP available on my main.
Just let me know when you plan to do it.
