    5. No more powers that detoggle a foe in PvP.

There goes my entire PvP strategy. Guess it's time to be another clone and roll a fire/energy.

I feel Sooooo weak just putting this up. Aisynia really did do an awesome.

    Neat page

Don't feel weak lol. My other pages are very similar to yours, and I'm very proud of them I intentionally went overboard on DiCosta's, spent a week working on it. Since I'm moving, living in an RV, and between jobs as a result, I mean that literally Just too much time on my hands.

Again, neat page. The banner at the top is very unique in and of itself (though the image looks as if it could use some cleaning up, I can help with that if you want).

    Cyborg costumes!

I got the pack and love it

what's funny about this though, is that my one ACTUAL mechanical character? Completely lifelike android None of it fits her, conceptually. she always dresses in cute clothes

So why is everyone ignoring Patron Power Pool respecs?

One of the biggest complaints about Villains has been fixed and hardly anyone has commented on it.

    What gives?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because that was leaked by one of the devs weeks and weeks ago. It isn't a surprise anymore.

In fact, most of this issue isn't really a surprise (at least what we know about it so far).

    Sounds cool.
Does this include changing the power's color? Sorry if you already anwer this qustion

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would require a LOT more work than what'd go into just a normal issue. A whole new game engine. This is something that's been discussed hundreds of times before already.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Nope.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Right. If you read that post, it's clear that a new game engine wouldn't lead to power customization. Power customization would require a retooling of the ENTIRE GAME, which encompasses "the engine, the hardocoded systems, the soft coded scripts, and the overall design decisions that those things were originally built around."

IOW, if we ever do get power customization, it'll take a lot MORE than "just" retooling the game engine.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually from what I understood, it wouldn't involve the engine very much, if at all, but instead would be a massive, fundamental reworking of how the powers system itself works.

Everyone says capt america.....other than Cap, there's like what? Maybe 10 obscure comic book charcters that use a shield?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I could say the same thing about Ice Blasts. Other than Iceman who does this?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Blizzard, Ice, SubZero, Kopaka, Capt Cold, Storm, Sylar, Ice MAiden, Frost, Tempest, Yamir, Killer Frost, Celsius, Katara, Aspen, Capt. Planet, Mr. Freeze, Avatar Roku, Coldsnap, Frostbite and like a million more here.

WTF? Donald Duck is on this list!
    No kidding! Look and see.

He has ice powers (amongst others) in Kingdom Hearts.

Also, Goofy > Captain America when it comes to shields. Goofy would kick Captain America's [censored] lol.

You guys are nutz. NOTHING should require you to do a TF 30-50 times. That is just horrible. If a pool C recipe costs 20 tokens, a typical TF/SF should reward at least 5 tokens. Anything more than that is just ridiculous.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think the idea is that different recipes cost different amounts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think that would be a big mistake (devs putting a quantifiable value on certain rewards vs others).
  9. [ QUOTE ]
Who said they won't all cost a ridiculous amount of merits?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No one, I didn't mean to imply that. I was only stating my opinion that they should all cost the same, and that the devs are going to have to consider very carefully how much work is enough work, and how much is too much. I foresee changes being made in beta, for sure.

The Merit System sounds potentionally Game Breaking. It'll destroy the price structure of the BM and WW. If the dev's are smart they'll keep the Uniques and Ultra Rares out of the reward choices otherwise it'll take a lot of fun out of the game. Part of the reason for me doing Tf's is that i dont know if i'm gonna get something uber rare or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]

exactly this could make things like building a perma dom a joke to do.

I'm concerned with how they will be handling this as well, as this could have substantial repercussions for the player market. Do LoTGs automatically cost more merits than a sting of the manticore? If so, why? It has the same chance to drop, but its bonuses are considered better by players. Will the devs formulate costs based on their bonuses, or will they all cost a flat (high) rate?

    hm...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Exactly this has some bad vibes coming off of it. This could make difficult build's like a perma dom a joke to do. I hope the dev's think about this one carefully. i'd hate for issue 13 to be the expansion that killed city of heroes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'll bet anyone right this second that getting the LoTG 7.5% def/rech is going to take a LOT of merits. It's probably going to take 50+ Katies worth and probably several of the harder TFs. I suspect it will still be quicker to just farm for the money.

I expect market prices to go somewhat lower, but not crash.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I honestly think all recipe rewards should cost the same amount of merits, a flat fee. After all, the chances of getting any specific recipe as a random drop are also 100% equal. By making one recipe cost more than another, the devs are making a concerted effort to skew the market, something I believe they have said in the past they wish to avoid.

I think all recipes should cost the same, flat price in merits, though how high that is will be a decision for the devs.

    "The Merit Rewards System
A new game system that allows players to earn tokens by completing Trials, Task Forces, Strike Forces, Raids, etc. The most challenging and time consuming tasks grant the most reward tokens, which can be redeemed throughout Hero and Villain zones for recipes, enhancements, salvage, costume pieces, badges, inspirations and other game items."

think we will get credit for the raids, TF etc we already completed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Very doubtful. I think it's going to be an alternative reward on the reward choice table.

In light of how negatively some of my posts today could be taken, I need to say:

My sig isn't just something I typed up to sound pretty. I really believe in the devs and I don't hold anything against them, even when they occasionally disappoint me. I am big enough to recognize I'm only one person and that many people are (rightfully) really psyched about this issue, and also that the devs have seriously busted their [censored], and put their blood sweat and tears into delivering something we will like. I don't want anyone here, players and devs alike, to doubt or question my motives in saying what I say. I appreciate what they do, and I don't think they are lazy, or stupid, or anything of the sort. I just feel, in this case, that he probably has so much on his plate, and so many things to go over, he's in a perpetual state of "can't see the forest for the trees".

...are you guys looking for reasons to be unhappy or what?

Love the "Day Job" mechanic. Looking forward to having a Scholar by day, Brute by night.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not at all, but I'm perfectly within my rights for this Issue's (so far) announced content to not excite, entice or otherwise interest me. I was hoping for other things.

Also, as I already said, I already KNEW about the vast majority of the content of this announcement. I was very, very excited about the mission creator, shields, new Cimerora content, etc., but that was already revealed to us (or easily guessable) months ago. I was hoping for a surprise, something to wow me, I didn't get that. The day jobs? Interesting, but not something I'm gonna squee over.

Thank you for putting in reason number 1 why I quit World of Warcraft two years ago and sold my account.

I suppose the only redeeming quality is that PvP in City of Heroes is stupid pointless, and it's not like the invention sets go so far out of the way to make things lopsided.

But honestly, things like this are a slap in the face to casual gamers who don't have time to go doing TF's and whatnot every night.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Meh there will likely be some kind of proportionate reward system. You can still do Katies to get your merits, it just may take a bit longer than if you did some Positron and Shard TFs, and a lot of that extra time involved could in fact be the time it takes to build a team for such an endeavor. In fact, devs, you may want to work that into your calculations for rewards if you haven't already. Shorter TFs may be, well, shorter, but building 5 teams to do 5 Katie TFs is a lot more difficult than building one team for one Positron TF. I'm not sure how that would measure up in terms of time consumed.

Color me annoyed with lack of Pistols.

I like the rest but I find myself less than enthused, and my general attitude towards the whole thing dampened as I once again find that this highly sought after set is absent.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Color you spoiled. Seriously.

The new things for i13 mentioned so far > pistol set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not spoiled in the sense of this definition: to impair, damage, or harm the character or nature of (someone) by unwise treatment, excessive indulgence, etc.

I'm spoiled in that, we already KNEW pretty much all of this. Weeks or months ago.

I'll repost what I just put in another thread that explains why I feel the way I do (which is a big, giant MEH):

Well a lot of my lack of enthusiasm can be drawn towards 3 primary issues.

    1) I already knew about the mission content creator. I was super freaked out and psyched when it was initially announced, but now it's lost the new car smell; I just want it here already but being psyched about it? Been there, done that.

    2) Also, we already knew Shields were going to be in, so this is not some huge surprise. We also already knew about the patron respec. In fact, adding new content to Cimerora is just logical progression and not something that is gonna wow anyone. Hell, a lot of this could have been easily guessed, and comes as no serious surprise. I will hope for some exciting news on zone revamping (Shadow Shard? Please?)

    3) NO PISTOLS. They TEASED us with Lady Jane, once again showcasing their lack of foresight (no offense guys, you are really intelligent, hard working devs and I appreciate you, but: if you can't foresee the popularity of the mission creator, your foresight skills need some work, go play some Chess). They shouldn't have added that NPC without some plans to add pistols, as the mere existence of Lady Jane caused a LOT of buzz, and as showcased already today, several (perhaps many) are disappointed in the curious absence of the power set.

A Wolf Spider (dipping into Bane Spider) guide was written by Aisynia, at The Huntsman - Guide to the Arachnos Wolf Spider

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks but totally already posted here.
  21. It's awesome. The primary seems much more well thought out than an AR blaster and it feel more like an AR, rather than a frankengun (even if you can change the model, it's still a shotgun, assault rifle, sniper rifle, flame thrower and grenade launcher all in one).
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Very nice, long guide. I now cannot decide if I want to play the Executioner or Huntsman... Likely going Operative with a name change after I decide.

One thing, I would like to know how a general party play through would go. Would I sit back shooting with mid damage and debuffs as I let my leadership toggles work their magic? What sort of reactions have you gotten from the community?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Youtube isn't loading for me because my internet is [censored] up, but if you go there and check my channel "adrius", my most recent video shows my spider in action (though she was an untrained level 38 at the time, and now she is 50).

Wolf Spiders play like... nothing else. Imagine an AR blaster, with a more finely tuned and interesting primary.. that gets Build Up, debuffs, and buffs. I'm generally at a pretty good range so my cone Heavy Burst does it's magic well. I'm basically a debuffing artillery platform.

My reactions have been excellent, as I often completely forgo things like a Rad on the team and handle all the debuffing myself, even against AVs. I've had a few people that were very surprised and impressed.

Most of all, it's a lot of fun
  23. Thanks for the feedback. If you have an example build you want posted in the guide, then go ahead and I can add it

I do indeed totally ignore the crab powers. Here's my reasoning.

<ul type="square">[*] Taking ANY Crab powers gives the Crab Spider back pack, even secondaries that don't use it, meaning you're stuck with a useless costume piece.[*] Given this, if you take the crab powers and get the backpack, you may as well just build a crab with wolf powers, and that is not what this guide is aimed at.[*] This guide was intended first to help people build "Huntsmen", brutal, efficient, leader type character. It had the secondary effect of being so thorough, it would help in building many kinds of wolves. The Crab Backpack doesn't fall into the Huntsman theme.[*] I don't know nearly enough about Crab powers to sit around talking about them.[/list]
    I hope that makes sense
