Yes, and this is my not happy face. We already had forum changes prepared and ready to go. Unfortunately a fairly serious issue popped up at the late stages of the maintenance which precipitated rolling the forum build back.
This is, as I was informed, a top priority to have addressed. -
This is fixed in an internal build and should be making its way to live sometime in the near future.

Unfortunately an unforeseen issue cropped up during the late stages of this deployment resulting in a rollback of the update.
Our apologies for the delay in the Hero skin being addressed and thank you for your patience. -
Quote:We haven't given a specific date, only to state that they will still be available once we release the next Tier 9 VIP set, Fire and Ice and will be rotated out once the subsequent set after that is released.Cool to hear. Has anyone mentioned what date it stops being available? I'm looking forward to taunting people with something they CAN NEVER HAVE.
There should always be overlap. -

Once you are awarded the Celestial costume set, i.e.; spend your Reward Tokens on it, we do not claw it back if you unsubscribe from VIP status.

In the interest of making this information more readily available (the other thread , while a great conversation, is nearing 1300 posts), I'm going to summarize some details we've shared since the Pummit regarding Super Packs, as well as let you in on the results of our continuing internal discussions.
First to recap:- The price for Super Packs has been set at 80 Paragon Points Each. There will be a discount for buying in bulk, ala a box of packs, which is TBD.
- We are still discussing/considering concerns expressed regarding the exclusivity of costume pieces. We're open to the idea of making them available through an alternate method in the Paragon Market, however a decision has not been made regarding this particular topic.
- ATOs (Archetype Enhancements) will be purchasable from the Reward Merit Vendor, for a combination of Reward Merits and Inf, and from Astral Christy, for a combination of Astral Merits and Inf. There will be a cooldown timer on the purchase of these items. The amount of Inf and duration of the cooldown are still being discussed and will be evaluated once all of this hits beta. This is in addition to their availability in Super Packs.
- Enhancement Catalysts will be added to the game as rare drops from enemies defeated during Incarnate Trials and in the upcoming newly Incarnated Dark Astoria. Like ATOs, this is in addition to their availability through Super Packs.
Thanks!

Hello and Happy Holidays to the City of Heroes Community!
Over the last year we made substantial improvements our production philosophy in preparation for Freedom. Our success with a new hybrid business model depends upon our ability to bring more value into the game, especially for our VIP subscribers. Our continued goal remains consistently delivering more compelling content, more frequently, whether it be through your VIP subscription or the Paragon Market.
I want to thank you, our players, for supporting City of Heroes Freedom during its very successful transition to a new business model and subsequent launch! The Freedom initiative and Issue 21: Convergence have significantly increased our active player base and our revenues, and have invigorated our game with amazing new content including monthly Signature Stories, weekly items in the Paragon Market, Paragon Rewards, a kickin Halloween event, and plenty more! I can confidently say that the City of Heroes game has never been better.
As we continue to support our game and service we will be looking more than ever to you, our players, to help us steer City of Heroes into the future. In accordance with this philosophy, on November 19th we had our Fall Player Summit in Palo Alto, CA. Our venue was packed and a good time was had by players and Paragon developers alike! Not only did we have the opportunity to show you some of the exciting content coming before and within Issue 22, but we also took the opportunity to listen to you, our players. We wanted to know, what have you liked most about Freedom? What havent you liked? What can we do to add even more value to our VIP subscription? Hearing your thoughtful insights truly helps us to shape the City of Heroes experience.
One of the highlights from the Player Summit was our Create a Costume Set panel, in which our players worked with David Nakayama and our artists to design this new Retro Sci-fi costume set (see image). We are pleased to announce that we will be completing and detailing the designs and rolling out the costume set next year (details are still to be determined), and we hope to make this one of our regular Player Summit activities moving forward.
So I would like to thank all of the folks at Paragon Studios and NCsoft for their passion and dedication, and I want to thank our awesome players for helping to make the City of Heroes Community the best there is! We wish you well during the holidays and look forward to seeing you online in Paragon City the Rogue Isles and Praetoria!
Sincerely,
Brian Clayton

Quote:That's a great question.I don't get it. What does the color displayed have to do with forum permissions. Is there some little guy that slides open a speakeasy-type window in the internets and checks to see if the incoming packets are gold colored? Why in god's name would the displayed color of a name have any impact on forum permissions at all?
We plan on allowing Free/Premium a bit more access to the forums than they currently have, and it's extremely helpful (for many reasons) to be able to distinguish a VIP player from a Free/Premium player at a glance. -

We have always shared resources with other NCsoft products when it comes to publishing efforts such as maintenance and server publishes. This is nothing new.
There are times where we take priority over other efforts and vice versa. It's part of a company running multiple products. Obviously we're not working on L2 or Aion here at Paragon, but we understand that we're all contributing in some way to the overall success of our organization. -

Quote:Pretty much this. We're talking about coordinating between the team who did the development (Seattle) with the team who maintain the servers (Austin) in order to roll out changes which were deployed and tested in a development environment to a live environment.Forum maintenance isn't the same as development. Forum maintenance is not the stage where changes to the forums are developed. It's more the part where they back up the forums and do maintenance on the software and hardware and then restart it. To the best of my knowledge doing maintenance on a server is not a totally different skill set from setting a server. In fact they seem pretty similar to me.

So while I don't plan on closing this thread down, I would like to warmly encourage everyone to please participate in the constructive discussion Noble Savage is currently holding in this thread.
Thanks! -
I absolutely understand (and share) your frustration with this, however this was, unfortunately, unpreventable.
Lineage 2 had their Free to Play launch yesterday and it's initial response has been very positive; so positive that they actually had to spin up a new shard on rather quick notice to support their concurrency. Unfortunately, it meant that this took priority over our forums maintenance, which is understandable.
Right now we're looking at the maintenance happening on Monday, however I'm not putting stake in the sand on that until I get further confirmation later on today. -
This maintenance has been postponed due to a scheduling conflict for cross product support.

Quote:Yeah most of this could have been solved with a name change.
Calling it Gunslinger was...yeah...that was a bad idea.
Calling it something like "Wild West Saloon" would have probably been better.
Or as mentioned better yet create two Wild West packs a "Gunslinger" one and a "Saloon" one, I'd have bought both.
I 100% agree that *some* of the complaints could have been avoided had we called this the "Wild West Pack" or something along those lines. Not all, or even most, but some.
It's a lesson learned in marketing of Market sales and one we'll carry forward when discussing the name for future costume packs. -
You guys are right, there's a bit of back and forth there as well. Point is, I made all of these arguments to our Web Security/Web team and a compromise and decision had to be come to.
In my eyes, it's not ideal, personally I'd prefer it so that you had to log in once a week at most, but it's not as extreme as some other MMO Communities impose on their players. -
Quote:I made that change in anticipation of this complaint. Cause, you know, titles are important .I'm pretty much in the same boat. I didn't use the Gold name before because it would have meant changing my forum title and I really didn't like the thought if being simply "VIP".
I'm not really sure what mine is currently, but I'd rather have it than "VIP".
EDIT: Ah, Renowned. I'll stick with that thank you very much.
Love you guys
