Granted, maybe the 'Hide' for SD on Stalkers would take a page from MGS and make the Stalker hide under a cardboard box or barrel or something.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The devs haven't bothered to explain how Hide works on ANY Stalker set, let alone potential future sets. The explanations you'd have to come up with for for how an SR hides, or an Elec, Willpower, Regen, etc. would be either equally absurd or just as plausible for a SD Stalker.

This is not a barrier (pardon the pun) to bringing shields to Stalkers. It is yet another red herring.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
Since it looks like Stalkers will probably never get Shields, I have a feeling Ninjitsu will end up staying unique to them as some sort of compensation.

    [/ QUOTE ]

SD probably wouldn't be all that great on Stalkers, but yeah, for it to make the port over the devs would have to acknowledge their double-standards when it comes to what is or is not appropriate for "concept reasons".

Invuln would also be a pretty poor secondary for Stalkers. Ice (primary or secondary) would need a few more than the usual tweaks and Fire/Firey, well again they'd probably raise some kind of nonsense about "sneaky" concepts... pay no attention to the brilliant ball of crackling electricity that is the elec/elec stalker, of course.

In other words, as a Stalker fan, I am not holding my breath. I'd roll up a Ninjitsu Scrapper in a heartbeat though. Double Caltrops, ftw.

Drug dealer, logging off on almost any Skyway street corner.

What if you log off on a street corner in St. Martial?

    Very cool.

About to upgrade from the "old" iPhone (speaker died) to the new one today. Guess which app I'll be installing first?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Phonesaber.

Trust me... it's even cooler than CoX on the iPhone!

Random Villain: "Hay! Wanna help me in a mish?"
Emerald Dervish: "Mortal fool...One so pathetic does not deserve my aid!"
    RV: "Uhh, wut?"
    ED: ((RPing, dude...))
    RV: "You're a jerk!"
    ED: ((Um...My character's a jerk. I'm a villain, after all...))
    RV: "Whatever..." *Walks away*

At which point I teleport to the ol' D and console myself with some good RPing. Conclusion? RP in the field dammit!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure this has been mentioned before in this thread but... RPing a jerk who is openly hostile to strangers is just a bad idea. For some reason, the RPer always assumes that a bad reaction to this is an example of the recipient not understanding that this is RP. Many times the case, but not always.

For instance, none of my villains, RPed or not, would have teamed with you. Villains don't necessarily go around insulting each other and then trusting each other with their lives on the same day. Fragile egos are even more common among villains. "Pathetic am I? I'll remember this, fool! Mark my words!" *storms off*

THAT too is a proper reaction to your roleplaying above. If you roleplay in the field, at least try to imagine how your character would act if he/she/it actually had an interest in working with others. Maybe you would still privately look down your nose at those you considered inferior but tone back the commentary to that effect in order to avoid bruising fragile villain egos.

I can't help but recall one time me and a group of friends decided to try playing D&D over IRC (yeah, I'm old). It was decided we'd all log in anonymously with our new characters so no one would know immediately who was who and thus not have preconceived notions about the various characters being roleplayed.

    It was a disaster.

For some reason more than half of them decided to roleplay excessively rude/antagonistic/arrogant characters. I found myself honestly wondering... "Why would I set out on an adventure with these people? I hate them all already!"
  6. Regarding using the "application controlled" AA setting...

Honest question: Is there an Nvidia FSAA mode that doesn't suck? I upgraded awhile back from my old AMD4000+ w X1800XTX to a Core2 processor w/ 8800GT. Love the speed. Hate the quality.

The in-game setting appears to give me what I think is 4x multisampled mode. Although it's hard for me to tell. Nvidia's FSAA options are numerous and bewildering in their combinations, especially if you look at them with nHancer.

In any case, most horizontal edges look absolutely awful. I am running at 1280x720 (projector's native res) so yeah, relatively low vertical res, but still... don't recall it looking this bad on the ATI. I notice it most on the horizontal edges of building (roof lines), power-lines, railings, and lane-markings on roads. These get very jagged looking, almost as if I am looking at something which is not anti-aliased at all (although I am sure it is, because *everything* looks worse when I turn it off).

I've done a little experimenting in nHancer and multi-sample 8xQ doesn't look too bad, but still a decent amount of "crawling edges" as I tilt and rotate my view in game.

Just to add a suggestion...maybe it would be cooler if these holiday events seemed to have a little more to do with the holidays themselves? One of the reasons the Halloween and Winter events are a little more fun is that they're firmly rooted in the holidays.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What could be more firmly rooted in the tradition of Valentines day than the desperate search for someone to "team" with and the resulting frustration and depression of failing to do so?

    Sorry... couldn't resist.

On a more serious note, I think the only really bad move here was requiring each side to complete the other side's mission in addition to their own. Once done, you can't help anyone else. This was mentioned elsewhere in the thread as the "supply shortage" problem and I just wanted to echo it.

If you absolutely must do away with cross-teaming to appease the folks who insist on "soloing" Valentine's Day (*snicker* okay.. last time, I promise!) then at least put in incentives to cross-team. The dimension drops are one, but it might be nice to have others.

I'd still like to see at least one badge or reward *require* cross-teaming, but it shouldn't stand in the way of earning all the other rewards the way it does now.
  8. I didn't read the whole thread to this point and I'm sure these problems are being repeated. But I'll post anyway to give my specs:

    Athlon 64 4000+, 1gig, ATI X1900XTX (catalyst 6.11)
low water, no bloom, no distance effects.
4xFSAA, 4xAF, forced in the driver control panel.

    1. CoV Office mission, 30-40fps with no action, which I'd say is the usual performance I'd been seeing since before I8. On an 8-man team, the fps would drop into the single digits (as far down as 4.8 or so) intermittently during combat then return to the 30-40 range afterwards. That's new. Performance always dropped in big battles, but now it doesn't take much and the effect is even worse.

    2. Leaving a door mission once last night in GV my fps was suddenly 15ish instead of the usual 25ish around GV. It stayed that way into the next door mission (another office map). With no activity it was sitting at 10-15fps. After logging out, restarting the client, and rejoining the team, it was back up to 30-40 range indoors.

    3. Had one crash to desktop shortly after leaving a sewer door mission in GV. I was just standing there motionless typing a few things in team chat and it crashed. Prior to I8 the only crashes I would experience were when fighting the self-rezzing Awakened enemies.

I have been unable to affect the slowdown problem much by fiddling with settings. A few fps here or there, yes, but the drastic slowdown in combat still happens even if I turn particle physics off and particles down to 100. Also doesn't show much improvement turning the sound sliders all the way down.

The only thing missing in your guide is the fact roleplayers don't tend to talk to people who speak in txt and smilies and end every sentence with lol or rofl (infact that just makes most cringe).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Only if they choose to be uptight about it. Honestly, if I roll up to someone and say "Hi! " and this puts them off because I used a smiley... well, I suppose if they ignore me for that I'd consider it a favor. That's a person I don't need to become acquainted with.

Maybe this belongs in a "Roleplayer's Guide to 'Idiots'" The advice being: Yes, you can choose to shun someone who doesn't take the time to tap out '/e greets you with a smile and a hearty hello'"... but why?

You may look down your nose at someone who types "How r u?" but you're a liar if you don't admit that you understood them perfectly well to say "How are you?" which, in most circles, is known as a "successful communication". It's no harder to read (and in some cases a lot easier) than someone affecting an accent while typing, yet the latter is often applauded by the roleplayers.

    Go figure.
