    Sorry to repeat what has been already suggested, but you tried to 1) tick on "Show hidden files" under Folder settings in the options menu in Windows Explorer, then 2) deleting the "CoX" folder in "C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\NCSoft"?

    Dear all,

    I am glad to say that the assistance of Tech support fixed it (thanks GM Emily!). They sent me this, at least to me, quite obscure tip:

    I would like to have the graphic shader files rebuilt on your system. To do so, please delete the "CoX" folder located, by default, at "C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\NCSoft" and try launching City of Heroes again. If you are unable to see this folder, you may have "Show hidden files and folders" disabled.

    And this did the trick! Thanks all of you, specially Morgan_Reed, Texas_Justice and Tex for your sugestions, very kind of you!

    Now I can enjoy I21 properly!

    Yep, tried right now, no luck. Thanks anyway.

    There is anything in Safe Mode different from "normal" beyond tunned down GFX? I can enter in Safe Mode, save the GFX settings as they were set by Safe Mode, exit game, try to enter "normally" (Safe Mode not ticked) then I get stuck in the loading bar again. So what is stopping me to enter is nothing related with "quality GFX", as trying to launch game with minimum settings (our of Safe Mode) fails.

    Submitted a support ticket, they asked me to run GameAdvisor and now it has been escalated.

    EDIT: I forgot to mention that if I close the stuck game loading bar (right click on CoH icon in Windows bar, "Close window"), the processs cityofheroes.exe*32 is still running in Task manager (using 126 MB RAM and 50% CPU, so one CPU) that I have to kill manually.

    I was originally with the 280 since the day they were released, I changed to 285 just yesterday to see if they made any difference. All was beautiful and shiney with the 280 before I21 ;-P

    Installing previous ones (275) right now.

    Odd, the latest driver I found for your NVIDIA 260M (note the M for mobile/notebook) has a version of 280.26 and a release date of 2011.08.09, but your drivers are dated:

    You are right, as said I had the "right" ones (280) and tried out of desperation the beta ones (285, and they are for the GTX 260M but are not WHQL yet). I always use the most recent WHQL ones. I can try to install one version earlier (275.33), but I have the feeling it will not make any difference.

    What do you think?

    Hi all, thanks again for the feedback.

    Morgan_Reed, the Auth entry is not on my registry, neither there is a NCSoft Launcher process sneakly running after launcing the game. Deleting the addcache-xml file didn't help neither, but thanks for keeping helping.

    I want to stress that I can enter in Safe Mode. If I "down-tune" the graph options to the same level as Safe Mode, I can't enter neither, Safe Mode needs to be checked in the Launcher. Windowed neither works.

    I also have tried the 285 nVidia Beta drivers, disabling SLI (both for SLI settings in the nVidia panel and in the the CoH profile of the nVidia panel, and all the combinations). Nothing helped.

    After reinstalling the latest drivers, that did no good, I have unistalled the game, then the NCSoft launcher, cleaned registry, then reinstalled the Launcher, later downlaoded the whole game and installed it from the scratch... still same problem, stuck in the blue loading bar, aaaarrrggghhh!!!

    Sorry, due to the forum eating my password, I have not been able to reply before. Morgan Reed, thanks for the suggestions, but the Launcher is set up to close when I launch the game and there is no launcher process running when game loads. I don-t have the launcher set to run at Windows startup.

    So my problem is not solved. I launch the game from NCSoft Launcher, Launcher closes (I have NC Launcher set up to auto-close), then the usual blue loading bar appears... and there it stays.

    I can work around it starting the game in "Safe Mode". Then I login, enter with a toon and set up gra`hics to my liking. After playing a bit, if I want to change toons with "Change character" option, then the mouse pointer dissapears; but if I select "Go to login screen" the mouse is fine.

    Funny thing, if I enter in Safe Mode, open GFX options and save them as they are ("Safe Mode"), then exit de game and try to launch it from the Launcher (with "Safe Mode" unchecked) it gets stuck in the loading bar!!! So then, the unability to launch it is not related to some "demanding" GFX option, as I am using the safe mode settings. Is it possible that the "Safe Mode" flag changes some behavious beyond tuning down the GFX options?

    I have tried to re-install my nVidia drivers (280) doing a clean re-install with the "Perfect install" option, no use. Also, as this behaviour reminded me on the issues of running the game in Linux, I tried to add "-renderthread 0"...

    Any ideas?

    Hi all!

    I am aware we are getting a huge patch today. I have downloaded the new patch and the game updated successfuly. My problem is that I get stuck at the "loading bar" and I never get to the log in screen. This didn't use to be the behaviour in previous issues, is that normal?

    Moreover, I have the Beta installed and if I try to connect to it I get the same result (loading bar). I logged in in the beta server before without problems.

    I am right now in the FB/Promotions webpage, seeing a pic of Maelstrom with a thumb up and a "Loading Code" blue square in the middle... I am not using "Secure Browsing". Codes finished or just me being impatient?

    EDIT: found the culprit. My FB account is set up in Catalan. I switched to English-UK (bottom-left) and got a functional code... happy panda!

    Watched it yesterday, and I really enjoyed it!

    I am comic fan, X-men included, since 1982. I didn't mind the continuity changes, even the in-universe ones. I would rate it above Thor, which I also liked but felt more like an action flick. I am realy looking forward for a sequel with creative team.

    AlienFX Problems

    Hey Braal,

    I have an Alienware m17x (RC1) and I have no problems with AlienFX so far, actually I am digging the interaction with CoH a lot! I guess you can still access the game, play it and change options.

    Just for testing purposes, why don’t you try to switch off AlienFX inside game? Go to Menu -> Options -> Graphics and Audio -> AlienFX -> Light Control and switch it to “Disable”. Exit game to desktop, log again and see what happens. If the keyboard lights are fine, then you can re-enable AlienFX ingame (exit and log back). Maybe this will do.

    Alternatively, you can switch on/off AlienFX from the keyboard (in mine is Fn + F11), maybe it will fix it too...

    If none of those options work, we can try to re-install the AlienFX program, but let’s try those first.

    New Nvidia drivers

    I have been using these drivers since they came out, no problems and not much difference with 260.99 (SLI GTX 260M here).

    I was wondering, people still use jg0001 nVidia suggested settings? I used to change nVidia Control Pannel settings following his advice after every new drivers install. But the suggestions are very old, now game has Ultramode and supports SLI, so I was curious...

    Heya Zep!

    I have been playing with these drivers since they came out, and I have not noticed any significant change (not for the worse, not for the better). Since they implemented it, I always click on the "right installation" box in the nVidia installer (I don't tinker much with game profiles anyway). I don't know if that's what you mean with a clean install. I suggest you to try this or use Drive Sweeper.

    If not, you can always go to the previous drivers release (260), they were the first to be very stable and sort many of my problemes with CoH.
