  5. This is true. Currently on my shelves there is Villians and vigilantes, Brave new world, and Champions (Heros). I like all the systems for various reasons. No offense intended but are you one of those Orignal or not at all gamers (ie D&D no AD&D no D&D 3rd ed?) I've met a few in my time and I'm just curious if you are one of those.

    Me I like to experiment with them all.

  8. There was a post here on the comics and culture boards but the post went by so fast that I'm not shocked that you didn't catch it.

    I didn't run out of endurance at any time and neither did anyone I played with. We took the demon down in record time I guess. The combat turns were divided into turns and rounds if you took more than one action a turn then it went into the negatives but you had several turns in a round if I remember correctly. Your At specific powers "refreshed" at the start of the round.

    Actually, my experience was different than both of yours. My guess is that each GM had his own take on it. LOL

    I know that blasters have the same HP as controlers and defenders. Trust me, I am reminded of that fact every time my Kin/Psy (39) Fulcrum shifts. Considering the up and coming desperation I was hoping that blasters would get an increase in hit points to help them use the ability.

    About blasters getting other abilities, I'm still hoping that the devs wont say, "Blasters got desperation ok we're done here folks." I'm hoping desperation is a precurser to looking at the secondaries for blasters. I'll tell you what really sucks the big one, getting a really cool ability and having it toned down to uselessness in the next issue. I'm hoping that the fixes for blasters are good, fair, and permanent.

    When he was talking about this I was thinking of the blaster backing away with three minions on him/her. I was thinking of the blaster despritely trying to kill the minions to survive. I'm waiting for more info though IE: ratio of low hitpoints to increased damage, the speed of the damage increase (blasters go down quick, we've all seen the back around the corner and still take damage event when will the increased damage take effect?), and other bits.

    Me too. A little later in the lecture someone asked if there was any ideas to help blasters. Mr Emmert said something to the effect of I allready said some of my ideas to help blasters.

    Honestly, I hope that they at least give blasters more hit points. Really, why not? They aren't mages in DnD after all.

    States actually did touch on post 50 content alot during the lecture it's just that my notes are terrible. I hope that someone who can remember what he said will step up to the plate or post as it were. This is actually referring to the type of player that this MMO is atracting.

    Sorry I just woke up from a marathon 12 hours worth of sleep. Anyone who goes to cons will understand .

    He said that earlier in the developement of the game, he wanted enhancements to be a psudocrafting kind of thing. When he said this I remembered the early days of /b" I have a mut/debuff for sale or trade." I hope he dosen't go that way. I would like to see the power 10 take a hike.

    If he does go this route many folks will need help getting enhancements from other heroes (the one's with the contacts built up).

    I agree. I hope the system they finally work out in the end has the stores as a place to sell at least and they reduce the cost of buying enhancements at the contacts. Only time will tell though.

    About toughing up the post 30's game, he said something to the effect of I'll increase the xp gained for the tougher fights I just want to increase the challenge (remember challenge=fun and choices=fun). As someone who takes (or should I say took) my DA scrapper on unyeilding rularu missions for fun I guess I agree with him.

    I hope that they increase Blasters hitpoints as well as add in Desperation.


    One thing about Mr Emmert that really impressed me. He really cares about his fans. When 30 people showed up for his Friday Lan party, he was of course irritated but I also saw disapointment in there. When he was drawing the names out of the hat (the final solution for the fact that there were too many folks) he looked pained. He appologized over and over again to the folks that didn't get in (curse you Origins!!!!!). He was open to joking around with his fans. He went the extra mile on the second oversold Lan and stayed to play with the others that were there. Also, I have many friends that are in the game developement business. I see how many hours they work and how drained they become. His stance on regular working hours for programers warms my heart.

    Honestly, I expected him to be a stuck up <this will be censored>. Seriously, when every phrase you say is analyzed to a point that it puts Kremlinzation to shame, that changes people. You have lots of folks coming up to you and saying how great you are or how awful you are, that can't help but change you to some degree. Yet, he wasn't stuck up at all. He honestly had fun with his fans. He beemed with excitement when he played his game.

    Don't get me wrong, I don't like alot of the decisions that the team has made <cough> Cloak of Fear whydidyouhaveto changeit whyyyyy? <cough>. For Mr Emmert as a person though I have a great deal of respect. That's something I wouldn't have said before I saw him in action.

    One thing that got lost in the many pages of this post. States is going to be a Daddy. I think if challenges=fun he's going to have so much fun on his hands he won't know what to do with himself. <wicked grin>
  20. Hello all I just got back from Origins and I have some juicy stuff from the lecture Mr. Emmert gave on the last day, I just want to share with you. I also have some impressions from Origins it’s self. For those of you who just want the juicy bits of the lecture I’ll put those first and my impressions of Origins second.

    Statesman’s lecture: First off I want to say that I took the notes in shorthand so they may be incomplete. I would rather give you less but accurate information so some of points may come up a bit short. I apologize in advance for any spotty information.

    Blasters: First off, blasters are going to get a new inherent ability (much like the scrapper critical is inherent to that AT) called desperation. The lower the blasters hit points the more damage they will do. As I write this I wish I had asked for more details IE ratio of damage to health but I didn’t <sigh>.

    Nerfs: Mr. Emmert through out the lecture constantly said that arising to challenges =fun. He said that all Ats should be able to do a mission on heroic solo. However, if invincible offers no challenge prepare yourself for the nerf bat (there goes my illusion/rad <sigh&gt. Right after that he said that if you can agro 50 guys and not be defeated something is wrong. He also stated that no one should be able to cap with out a defender. I’m assuming this means defense but it’s one of those shorthand notes and could also mean damage. He mentioned that the 30’s game and above is NOT Balanced (his emphasis). He said that he wanted to make it more challenging and exciting to get a Yes!! I beat it feeling. He didn’t mention specifics other than differing damage types.

    Stamina: Statesman said that they can not remove Stamina in its current form from the game. He really wishes he could go back and revamp the system of Stamina but as the game now stands he can’t change it. He did mention that to make Stamina inherent and allow access to 4 power pools would make characters too powerful. He also brought up the theme of choices during the discussion of Endurance. He said that you should choose which powers to use when. The discussion was all very <cough> cryptic.

    Skills: For something that is not coming in the foreseeable future, a lot of the lecture was focused on skills. He mentioned that he wanted to get the core game settled and then would focus on skills. I got the distinct impression that a skill system is something that Mr. Emmert really wants to put into the game but he wont accept something lack luster (thank Gods). The Universities will go in on I5 the art work is already in and can’t be changed. He mentioned that there were “other” uses for the University but did not elaborate. He said that the typical click/craft was boring and he didn’t want to use it. He mentioned that he would like to see uses like breaking computer codes for missions and base raids. He wanted resource gathering to be through contacts rather than to go into the woods and chop down trees. Superman knows someone who can get him plutonium, he doesn’t go out and gather the Plutonium him self.

    The post 50’s blues: Mr. Emmert mentioned several different possibilities for post the 50’s game. Going back and doing missions with a sidekick so that the sidekick gets more xp. Another idea was new power sets and missions attached to these power sets that would require the new power sets to complete them. My notes on this are really jumbled, sorry folks. There is more but I won’t give you guesses.

    I5: There was a flyer passed out at the con about I5 "Forest of Dread". There are some new villians out there the cabal of Witches, Red Caps, a Giant Fir Bolg and the legendary Tuatha de Dannan. The flyer also mentions the new powersets. Two new zone events. Hellion Arson- "The Hellions are torching buildings and it's up to the heroes to snuff them out!" Troll Rave-"There's an upgraded Superadine source and the trolls are overdosing to create "Super-Trolls" that are out of control. New debt system 1/2 xp debt when characters are defeated in missions and no debt until level 10. Also many mission upgrades ( can't wait to check those out).

    Misc: States favorite TF is Ernesto Hess. Of the new power sets his favorite is archery. Other power sets he would like to incorporate into the game are Shield powers, Energy absorption, Shape shifting and Magnetism (mentioned this one 3 times). Hold on to your seats folks, he HATES the stores in Talos and IP. As soon as he is able he will get rid of them. I don’t know the man, I didn’t even meet him but through the whole con I never saw a look of utter disgust on his face except when he was talking about the stores. I think he wants a purely contact enhancement purchase system. No wings it would take up too much programming time. He again said that he didn’t mind Power leveling but that it indicated that something was wrong if folks preferred sitting by the door rather than playing the game. Statesman will appear in the Tyrant mission soon. This game caters to new MMO players (roughly 40% of the player base is new to MMOrpgers). The April fools joke was supposed to be a temporary power of Vaz vomit. That had a percentage chance of making other hero’s vomit. Thinking of this power in use around Atlas park had me in stitches all the rest of the con. Mr. Emmert loves the challenge of the hallows (me too). He reads the boards and plays the game daily.

    Well this is what he said during the lecture. Remember don’t shoot the messenger.

    Origins was a much more serious con than Gencon. Gencon had a feeling of party party party and Origins was definitely a gaming con. I liked that. Not that there is anything wrong with party but I like to game when I go to cons. I was really disappointed that I only got into 2 of the 9 events I preregged for. I had 3 over bookings and 4 Gm no shows. I flew 2/3rds of the way across the country to get screwed. That was extremely disappointing, especially for a con this old and established. There was a rumor that a hacker had mucked up the registration boards. I’m going to put more impressions of the con in later but I’m finding that the many days of no sleep are catching up to me right about…. Now. I’ll be happy to answer any questions after I get some snuggle time with my man and some sleep.

    I have 1 level 50 and another one a hair away from 48. I have plenty of influence. I came to love this game for it's lack of PhatLewt tm and lack of time sinks. I see that changing bit by bit and I will fight it all the way.
