Aaaah, but Scream isn't technically an AoE power - it's a cone (and I have an aversion to cone attacks, since you have to be very precise with them). And I find that there just isn't the time during the middle of a fight to make sure that I'm lined up nicely with a few bad guys to hit them all - MUCH easier to do that with an AoE power. And I didn't say that I took Tornado for the attack power (which, incidentally, is almost twice that of scream according to CoH/CoV builder) - I took it for the knockup breather. I've got a very nice chain of damage with Subdue/Telekinetic Blast and Will Domination. I took the other powers for control (Scramble Thoughts for disorient and Psionic Tornado for knockup). I don't see Scream fitting into my build because a) it doesn't do enough damage to justify it for an attack and b) it doesn't offer enough control aspect to justify it being a controlling power. Even if I hit Fulcrum Shift (as my defender is kinetic), Psychic Scream can only just top over 100 damage to the bad guys. And that's only hitting 2 or 3 in a cone. Compare that to over 150 that Tornado can do, and it's got a pretty big AoE (20 feet from the initial hit). So Tornado wins it for me hands down for the multiple-hit power.

Hi Mystie,
My defender is kin/psi, and the way that I've built her is as follows (with the attacks):
01) --> Mental Blast==> Acc(1)
04) --> Psionic Lance==> Acc(4) IntRdx(9) Rechg(9) Dmg(13) Dmg(13) Dmg(17)
16) --> Telekinetic Blast==> Acc(16) Dmg(19) Dmg(25) Dmg(34) Rechg(36) Rechg(36)
20) --> Will Domination==> Acc(20) Dmg(21) Dmg(21) Dmg(25) Rechg(34) Rechg(36)
24) --> Subdue==> Acc(24) Dmg(37) Dmg(37) Dmg(37) Rechg(43) Rechg(50)
35) --> Scramble Thoughts==> Acc(35) DisDur(40) DisDur(45) DisDur(45) Rechg(45) Rechg(46)
38) --> Psychic Wail==> Acc(38) Dmg(39) Dmg(39) Dmg(39) Rechg(40) Rechg(40)
44) --> Psionic Tornado==> Acc(44) Dmg(46) Dmg(46) Dmg(48) Rechg(50) Rechg(50)
I basically took them all apart from psychic scream (which is pants - JUST over the attack strength of mental blast, which is next to zero lol - and has just as long an animation). Yes, I DID take scramble thoughts - but only as another controlly power rather than an attack power. WD causes sleep, SC causes disorient (3-slotted for disorient). My attack chain, as is everyone elses (it seems) is WD, Telekinetic Blast and Subdue. I use Psychic Wail (which does AMAZING damage - I believe that it's second only to rad's Atomic Blast - according to CoH/CoV builder, it's even more powerful than a blaster's Nova or Inferno) - and even though it's super-beefed up on my defender (cos of the mass hypno -> FS -> PW combo) it would do you fine just 3-slotted with damage w/out the FS kick to boot.
Psionic tornado is a bit pants too (for damage) - it's nice to have an AoE attack and the knockup feature can give you a breather for a second or two as the minions and lieuts fall down - but it's not part of my attack chain. Psionic lance is used for pulling and also use it sometimes after using Psionic Tornado (with the breather whilst they're being knocked over). Mental blast is used if I ever get attacked by 20 mobs of 'swarm' and all my other powers (including brawl!) are recharging.
Hope that this helps! -
Kinetics/psi is my fave build. I am also very fond of dark/rad (dark for the -accuracy and resistance debuffs, rad for the -defense debuffs). However, with kinetics, it's like everything's on fast forward! I didn't have to take the fitness power pool (for once!) Also, the offensives, whilst being extremely powerful (FS + will domination - hellooooo, 1-shotted minion!) also lend to an extremely controlly feel, so soloing is very possible. Boss bugging you? No problem - hit him with transference, then transfusion (if he's got any remaining stamina) then will domination and scramble thoughts. Boss is disoriented, and you can get on with FS + psychic scream - and before the boss has had chance to come round after a nap and woozing around, you've hit him with transference again back up to full endurance.
I've yet to find a defender that can solo as quickly as a kinetics/psi (I said quickly, NOT safely). The endurance isn't a problem, the heal is superb (best AoE heal in the game) and the damage output is crazy. I just make sure that I have SB and ID set to keys on my number pad so that when the inevitable SB pls! (though I VERY rarely get it cos I stay on top of buffs all the time) gets shouted, it's just a quick press of a key. -
I've just got my kin/psi defender to lv 38 and am LOVING her. I took psionic tornado too, just for the hell of it (it's nice to have an AoE attack) plus it's got a nice knockdown effect (not knockback, but knockdown, so you can fire off psionic tornado, let all the bad guys fall down, run in and happily fire off Fulcrum Shift). But the best attack chain does have to be, as has already been said, will domination, telekinetic blast and subdue. I didn't bother slotting mental blast (I only use it if EVERYTHING else is recharging) nor did I bother slotting siphon power (I use fulcrum shift for my damage boost now).
Here's my build for what it's worth...
01) --> Transfusion==> Acc(1) Acc(3) Heal(3) Heal(5) Heal(5) Rechg(11)
01) --> Mental Blast==> Acc(1)
02) --> Siphon Power==> Acc(2)
04) --> Psionic Lance==> Acc(4) IntRdx(9) Rechg(9) Dmg(13) Dmg(13) Dmg(17)
06) --> Siphon Speed==> Acc(6) Acc(7) Slow(7) Slow(11) Rechg(15) Rechg(15)
08) --> Combat Jumping==> DefBuf(8)
10) --> Stealth==> DefBuf(10)
12) --> Speed Boost==> EndMod(12) EndMod(17) EndMod(23)
14) --> Super Jump==> Jump(14)
16) --> Telekinetic Blast==> Acc(16) Dmg(19) Dmg(25) Dmg(34) Rechg(36) Rechg(36)
18) --> Increase Density==> DmgRes(18) DmgRes(19) DmgRes(23)
20) --> Will Domination==> Acc(20) Dmg(21) Dmg(21) Dmg(25) Rechg(34) Rechg(36)
22) --> Acrobatics==> EndRdx(22)
24) --> Subdue==> Acc(24) Dmg(37) Dmg(37) Dmg(37) Rechg(43) Rechg(50)
26) --> Transference==> Acc(26) Acc(27) EndMod(27) EndMod(29) Rechg(29) Rechg(31)
28) --> Recall Friend==> Rechg(28)
30) --> Teleport Foe==> Acc(30) Acc(31) Acc(31)
32) --> Fulcrum Shift==> Acc(32) Acc(33) Rechg(33) Rechg(33) Rechg(34)
35) --> Scramble Thoughts==> Acc(35) Dmg(40) Dmg(45) DisDur(45) Rechg(45) Rechg(46)
38) --> Psychic Wail==> Acc(38) Dmg(39) Dmg(39) Dmg(39) Rechg(40) Rechg(40)
41) --> Mass Hypnosis==> Acc(41) Acc(42) Rechg(42) Rechg(42) Rechg(43) Sleep(43)
44) --> Psionic Tornado==> Acc(44) Dmg(46) Dmg(46) Dmg(48) Rechg(50) Rechg(50)
47) --> Hasten==> Rechg(47) Rechg(48) Rechg(48)
49) --> Super Speed==> Run(49)
My attack chain, planned at lv 41, will be: Mass Hypnosis -> Fulcrum Shift (doesn't wake up the sleeping babies) -> psychic wail. Already at lv 38, PW with FS can almost take out entire mobs (that's with NO damage enhancements in it). BTW, before anyone starts shouting the odds re: my power placements/slots, this is my respec (whilst getting up to lv 20, I'd taken the fitness power pool and more attacks earlier on, like subdue).
Hope this helps! -
I have EXACTLY the same prob with my dark defender mate. Rad is SLIGHTLY better than dark when it comes to seeing who's debuffed (the greenish haze around him is easier to pick out rather than a murky grey blob with dark). I also have a key bind set up to say 'X is the darkest night anchor - please leave him til LAST' I had the misfortune to team with someone the other day - there was a mob of about 15 including 3 bosses and a couple of lieuts. He killed my anchor 3 times in that single fight. I politely asked him NOT to kill the Jutal which was my anchor (troll lieut). He replied with "There were 2 of them" to which I replied "Well leave them both til last please" to which he replied "No - you're being ignorant." How was I being ignorant?? I replied with "I'm not being ignorant, just a debuffer - you're killing my anchors" to which he replied "We were doing just fine without you before." So I left them to it.
There's some people who will just go in and be slap-happy. Unfortunately you can't do much about it. I'm slowly perservering with my dark defender (only lv 8 and soloing V E R Y slowly) but am finding it difficult to team - I'm guessing that most of the lowbies that I've teamed with so far are noobs, as I'm sure that a hardened veteran player wouldn't blankly ignore my constant yells of 'NO! Leave him alone - he's the anchor!' whereas a noob probably would.
You've probably just had the same misfortune as me mate - but hang on in there - it's bound to get better (fingers crossed!!) -
Fantastic! Thanks for all your help - I know how to go ahead with the slotting now.
Cheers! -
What about the other powers - the single target ones in particular (e.g. nutrino bolt, x-ray beam). Can't find any figures anywhere.

Hi guys,
Hopefully someone out there will know rough figures (would be excellent if exact figures were available) for the defense debuff value of a defender's radiation secondary powers. I've just rolled out a dark/rad defender - dark for its damage and accuracy debuffs and chose rad for its defense debuffs. However, the hero planner that I use only tells me that the rad powers have a -def debuff whereas with all my dark powers, it gives me figures.
Basically, what I want to know is, is it worth slotting extra defense debuffs in my rad blasts, or just slot them for damage instead? If it's a tiny, piffly amount (like, say under 3%) I ain't gonna bother slotting it for defense debuffs. However, if it's 5% or more, then 3-slotting for defense debuff would be beneficial, IMO.
Anyone out there know of any figures?
Thanks guys -
If it's going ahead tonight (Monday), I'm up for it with my tank, pisteuomen.
-
Yup, I'm interested in this TF with my tanker, pisteuomen. Global is @wonder gran if you drop me a tell
Either Sat or Sun is good for me -
I'm up for it pls if that's OK - either with my kinetics defender or my mind troller - my global is @pisteuomen.
Cheers! -
Yeah, I'm up for it too - global is @pisteuomen - will be there with my tanker if that's OK
-
I've got the Spleunker mission with my PB - gimme a shout online (flambouyant queen) and I'll be happy to let you in - that goes for anyone else who wants to do Spleunker mish, too - lemme know!
-
Sorry it's rather short notice peeps, but I just thought that I'd be nice and let you know that I'm helping out a friend in Striga today around 4pm to get the Slayer and Silver Bullet badge (for the Atlas Medallion). If anyone else needs it, send me a tell when I'm on - hopefully between half 3 and 4 today. I'll be on as my tank, Pisteuomen.
-
Just literally dinged to 50 today: Pisteuomen - inv/fire tanker
-
Thanks honey - couldn't have done it without ya Even though you did overtake me from level 40!! The downside is now though I can't be your bee-atch

An Inv/Fire without Combustion??? Are you mad? Due to it's lower recharge time Combustion does better DPS and DPE than FSC and it has a shorter animation time and a larger area effect.
[/ QUOTE ]
The figures for combustion are as follows (courtesy of CoH builder by SherkSilver - v1.7.6.0): Base damage of 3.6113; endurance cost of 13; action time of 3 seconds and a recharge time of 15. The figures for FSC are as follows: Base damage of 5.7002; endurance cost of 18.512; action time of 4.17 seconds and recharge of 20. Slotted with 1 recharge and endurance reduction, the gap between them lessens even more, with combustion costing 9.75 endurance and taking 11.25 seconds to recharge and FSC costing marginally more at 13.89 and taking 15 seconds to recharge. With invincibility active, the inherenet 'gauntlet' power and constant 'taunts', I find that I don't have to use AoE attacks very often at all to retain the agro.
There WAS a time that I took combustion: pre-I5... back in those days, I could herd up several mobs - and thinning them down could take considerable time (even with a full team of 8) - and combustion helped to hold the agro. However, since I5 (and with ED introduced in I6, to further add insult to injury) I've dropped combustion from my build as I can no longer hold anywhere near as much agro as I did before. Hence, I've found that fire sword circle, taunt and my epic powers are MORE than sufficient to hold the agro of one or 2 mobs -
Blimey! My inv/fire tank has almost limitless endurance - I hardly ever have to take time to rest between mobs and just plough right into the next one. I've got 2 end reductions in TI, 1 in unyielding and 1 in invincibility; I also put an end red in each of my attacks. I haven't taken fire breath or combustion as they seem to gobble endurance compared to the rest of the attacks for the damage that they inflict (fire breath costs 10 point something, I think, for a damage that is less than fire sword, and the cone angle on it is pretty pants). Also, fire sword circle holds the agro of the mobs just as well as combustion, and though it costs more endurance to use, it does LOADS more damage.
So I find that it's not my primary power set that gobbles up my endurance, it's my secondary set... possibly you may need to think about what attacks you're taking... but if you put the end reductions in the 3 toggles in the inv power set as I have done, it only uses something ridiculously low like 0.6 end/second. -
My gripe's the other way round... especially teamed with the infamous 'blankers' out there. My tank (still) has a key bound with the group yell "Herding... keep back til I yell 'ready'" I still occasionally use this (got an inv build tanker, so anything that does lethal/smashing damage, I can still herd up a pretty big group without taking TOO much damage). However, when I yell my bind, I ALWAYS find some IDIOT blaster deciding to follow me. So rather than anyone shout anything at the tank, it's the tank (me) shouting to the group to keep back. And then the blaster inevitably launches his AoE attack, instantly grabbing all the agro from me... and then dies.. and then blames me!
So I rarely have anything yelled at me... unless it's from said 'blanker' who decides to run away from the rest of the crowd, attack his own group of baddies then yells "TANK - HELP!" and we're 400 yards away from him!! -
I'll be there as pisteuomen - hopefully I'll have made it to lv 50 by then.
-
I'll be on (unless I'm working, that is <sigh> as pisteuomen (inv/fire tanker) - but I'll more than likely need an SK (from Ruby Dragon will be fine - cheers hun!) as he's only lv 45
