  1. Just to let people know I may miss this coming Tuesday night visit to Victory server. My computer is acting up and there's either a graphics card driver or hardware problem. Warboss already knows about it. It's not good. The computer is going to a shop and probably won't get it back for awhile. Hopefully I'll have it back by this Saturday.

There isn't a TankHQ supergroup on Freedom. Sorry. When we visited Freedom the first few times on these monthly visits most of the Tankers were in other SGs. I had my Tanker join an existing one.

Given the high activity on Freedom server, finding an established and active SG should not be a problem. As long as you have the TankHQ chatline to keep up with Tanker events, you'll be fine.

  6. Thank ye. This is the best krewe an unemployed librarian pirate could ever hope for!
  7. It's my old arc, "You Say It's Your Birthday" is still on the grid! Play it! Birthday me ppl! DEFEAT THE CAKE!!!

    Arc ID# 3630
    Name @Witty Librarian
Mission difficulty: There's One EB/AV, and some tough bosses if you spawn high enough
    Characters: Custom critters (Cake thieves)
Objective: Prizes, cake, Mistress of All Cake to defeat.

Because of the custom critters (I never edited this after the rules were changed) the ticket count might not be that high, but try it anyway! It's one mission long, mid-sized map, enjoy!
Play it early and often, thanks!

    Thor

Oh, did anybody else see the boom mic in the pet store scene?

    Thor

    Saw Thor this Friday.

    What I liked:
The Shakespearean vibe on the whole thing: the way Hopkins handled himself as Odin had a King Lear thing, the sibling rivalry plot, the base humor of Thor's inflated expectations. The simple effects of Loki coming and going in reflected rooms. The blase attitudes of SHIELD agents - "Is that one of Stark's?" "I don't know, he never tells me anything..." and "Call it in" "This is Team 2, we got Xena, Bruce Lee and Robin Hood heading west..."

    What I didn't like:
Not enough with Portman doing more science stuff, we see her talk the game but most of the time she's just standing about looking at CGI clouds.
  10. those artists did nice work. I might hassle them for commission work...

  12. I'm publishing an estory in the superhero genre and need a comic-book graphic artist willing to take the commission.

I can send you a rough draft of the story and indicate which scene in the story I'd like to see done in art.

Please let me know what your rates are for the work. I will let you keep the copyright on the cover art. I just wanna sell the story, and a good cover goes a long way in getting readers interested.

    Thanks.

    P.S. I pay in USD.
  13. If I wanted to MAKE a request for an artist, say for someone I can commission a book cover for an estory I'm publishing, is this the place to do that?

    servers

I did not break the Intertubes.
  15. It's been a good while since I've seen any teams try out new player-made mission arc at the AE buildings. Or playing some of the ones we made years ago (has it been that long already?). Any chance we can organize some Mission Architect team-ups for the Mondays of the Month of May?
  16. Good news: the game finally patched (once the sound files were fixed the rest of the updater raced to the finish line in SECONDS) and I was able to log on for the weekly Tanker Tuesday...

and now it seems like my heat sink/CPU is running too hot.

I mentioned in-game that the CPU temp was reading 59-60 degrees Celsius... I've asked around, and it seems the heat sink uses grease as the contact to the CPU, whereas paste would knock up to 5 degrees C off the temp reading.

My other option would be to add ANOTHER fan to the mid-tower (there are two vents on top, one looks like it can take a fan mount...). But I'll see about getting paste between the sink and CPU first...
  17. Once the sound files cleared the updater the rest of the updater took SECONDS. Weird.

Still. Next time, game devs, I wants faster updates!!!

I deleted the .checksum file first thing when trying this.

The download has moved past the sounds.pigg file, which is nice, but it's still barely halfway done.

Seriously. Once this is all finished, I'd very much like the game devs to ship me a set of discs of the game updated to current Issue. If I lose another motherboard again, I'm just not gonna bother with this crap if it means another 12-24 hour update.

Also, It's probably damn near pointless to install off a disk that old. You're probably going to end up downloading the entire game anyway, so just get the client off the main site (assuming you have no way to copy the client from an old hard drive).
I copied the CoH as last I had it about a week ago from the old hard drive and pasted it into the new drive and everything. Should I just try downloading the game client or is that going to have the save download speed issues as the .pigg file?

Someone has a guide to this but I can't remember who it is...
    I did that. Still stuck.
  21. I am trying to re-install CoH to my new computer, and the relauncher is stuck on fixing file piggs/sounds.pigg

    Anyway around this?

EDIT: It's about 3 hours later... it's moved on to other files so it's just being too damn slow. Just have to be patient.
  22. I had to get a new computer, and am trying to re-install and update the game. I had to re-install the game I have on disc (CoV version), and then tried a few shortcuts to see about speeding up the patches (since there's been, what 12 issues since then?).

The relauncher is attempting to fix files. And it is STUCK. It has been stuck on the same file name - piggs/sounds.pigg for the last 30 minutes, and I don't see any way of circumventing the launcher to continue the patching. The only thing I think I can do is click QUIT... and start over!

Am I doing something wrong? What are my options?
  23. I am very frustrated with the speed of downloading anymore...

Okay, I got the system stabilized and I've now added my old hard drive to the system... copied/pastes CoH over the re-installed CoH... removed checksum file... relaunched the installer...

And it's STILL gonna take 7-8 hours from now to patch.

Okay, to any game devs reading this: seriously, you should send gratis new backup copies of CoH/CoV with each major launch like Mission Architect and Going Rogue... because us old-timers have these major reload issues each time we get a new PC! Grrrrrrrr.

It was on a surge protector. It still didn't protect it.

One thing I've learned from my A+ cert studies: nothing is fully protected or foolproof.
