Someone suggested an Orbital Cannon blast, would be cool. (Could even be a Rain-type power, something we lack currently) or an artillery barrage.

Quote:Throwing knives. There's one bit i don't get. Yeah, the Cryo judgement does cold damage. The only real way of knowing that if you've recolored it is to look under the hood at the combat spam. Theres nothing about what is displayed that screams out "lookie! it's cold damage!" unless one of them has a block of ice hold proc (i'm not sure, not looking at cryo for my incarnates)...and if so, don't get that one. You could totally pass off recolored cryo as flechette shards or someother non-elemental shrapnel attack.

Quote:Interesting idea.Well, what if (huge if here, and I'd be shocked if they thought this deep into it, so bear with me) the ancient pantheons of gods were previous champions of the Well. A key component in those gods' power was the worship of mortals. Without that worship, they kinda went away. Perhaps that's the way the Well is working through Cole, and since he's the full on champion he has more insight as to how the Well "works" unlike States and Recluse. So he's doing whatever he can to maintain the adoration of his people. Without it, perhaps the Well would drop him. *shrug*

Quote:Well, it does take time off from his hedonistic pleasures. The immortal guy who can solo the Hamidon and take a direct hit from a nuke needs to make sure all the civilains in his city never think bad thoughts about him?
Or, and I suspect this is closer, he's not actually that fond of killing people unless there's a good reason, if he can get what he wants without people hating him, why not? -
Quote:No idea... it's very uneven depending on how the trial goes. Lambda gives less threads than BAF, generally speaking (But if you succeed with Lambda you almost automatically get max rewards)Sorry if this becomes annoying...just a bit more info maybe.
If you have to hazard a guess...(breaking down random component drops and merits into threads) how many threads per hour do you think you averaged?
Rough estimate is fine.
I'd say *on average* about 20 or a bit more per hour, but I suspect that's going to increase as success-rate increases (both because of people figuring out the mechanics of the trial, and people getting more powers)
Mind, the big random/time factor is that when you succeed on a trial you get (at worst) an uncommon component: That's a LOT of time saved. (60 threads) and you might get a rare or very rare which cuts the time down even more. -
Quote:Because Recluse have to fight off people who try to usurp him every day of the week?He seems very keen on making sure they all love him and don't think bad thoughts about him - why not take the Relcuse approach and just ignore them?
Cole only does so on Tuesdays. -

Not true at all, if you actually do the preatorian content you'll see that not all factories are staffed by robots, there's an economical foundation to his regime (hence the breeding ground for the Syndicate). And he also needs to keep the middle-management happy. (If only because, presumably, they're the ones actually directing the robots)
-
Not true. Both the Admiral Sutler task force, and even the Trials (where you don't even have to have an alpha unlocked to contribute) have non-incarnates fighting against Cole's forces. Apex and Tin Mage has Cole specifically utilizing the power of the Well to weaken his enemies, but this seems to be a limited effect.

I should note that most of these threads are from Astral Merit conversions, with a couple extra threads thrown from drops, and then I think you get a small number for actually completing one.
-
Not just that, it was also an effort to plant sleeper agents inside the Resistance. Which could be a major blow to a potential ally.

Quote:I'm not quite there yet (I lack some 40 threads due to the shutdown of the servers) but once I'd gotten the hang of the thing I was usually getting 20+ threads per run. (more if I got lucky on the rolls)If i counted correctly, i think it takes 540 threads to make a rare, unless you used a lot of empyrean merits. How many times did you do the trial to get those?
Mind, I've not been beelining for the Destiny Rare or anything, I have the Uncommon Judgement and common Interface as well.
I have five uncommons (1 of every kind +1 duplicate) about 80 threads, an Ancient Technique (very rare, got lucky on the roll, not going to get a use for that one in a while) I also broke down two uncommons for threads, and used one to craft my Uncommon Judgement. (Two of the uncommon components were from getting badges, the rest from completing trials)
I think I've used three Empyreal merits, and I have one saved (presumably in order to get a second rare eventually)
EDIT: I also converted 10 shards>threads. (I had about four shards+1 notice and assorted components and got 12 shards running an ITF+converting the notice that I haven't converted yet)
EDIT2: I should note that I've been largely letting the component-drops decide exactly what tree I go for. (My intention was to get the Rare Lore or Destiny slot quickly, but I haven't actually unlocked Lore yet, so Destiny it is) -
Honestly, there's not much grinding involved in this. I'd have gotten my Rare Destiny slot in less than three days were it not for the maintainance thing.

Quote:I'm all for diversity, simple as that. More different things to do=better.I disagree. Not based on the merit of multi-team raids, so much as on this "follow the leader" mentality. What "every MMO has" should never be in itself a convincing argument for adding or not adding something to one. In fact, there's nothing more depressing than an MMO which describes itself as "has loot, has market, has crafting, has pvp, has raiding, has customization." Um... Yeah, what is the MMO actually ABOUT?
A game broken down to a collection of game mechanics is a game without a soul, to wax poetic for a moment, and it is, more than anything else, a game with nothing particularly interesting in it to care about. If one is after markets, crafting or PvP, there are other games that have done it better and that have many times the player base, as well. What sets City of Heroes apart isn't the market or the raids or or the loot. It's the super heroes and the snazzy costumes. We need to keep this in mind at all times. -
Quote:Because it's fun? New powers gives you new ways to use them which means the devs can devise new challenges. This kind of approach bugs me a little. Not the "having fun" part... Not entirely. I mean the notion that the point of the Incarnate system is to get more powerful. I know that in itself can be fun, but I keep thinking that's missing the point of getting more powerful in the broader sense. Personally, I'd like to see getting powerful have an ultimate point somewhere down the line, above and beyond giving you the ability to become even more powerful.
It's the old "raid for gear, gear to raid with" conundrum. To what end? This reminds me of the mentality from the movie Other People's Money, where Danny DeVito explained why people got caught up in the vicious cycle of making money so they could invest and make more money over and over again: "You make as much money as you can, and whoever has the most when he dies wins." It strikes me as an exercise without a purpose, a story without an end, a perpetual cycle of power creep... But for what purpose?
I don't know, maybe I just don't get it.
I mean, it is, after all, a game. -

Quote:Honestly, I suspect resistance debuffs to be more crucial in "doing it without 'nades" than actual raw damage. Considering he's about 100% resistant to all damage when enraged. At the end of the day it's a numbers game. Doing it without grenades requires a lot more damage (both on Marauder and on the adds) than using them. I suspect a well skilled team with a lot of buffs/debuffs could do it today but for the most part I think until people start getting their judgement powers and level shifts it's going to be very hard.

They're possibly too easy, but they're not tedious the way eg. a certain egyptian-themed dungeon in another MMORPG is. Trust me on this. (For starters, you only need one hour rather than five)
-
Quote:Honestly I find them fun on their own: They're just complicated enough to be slightly challenging but not so complicated/unforgiving that they become tedious (Not to mention they aren't half as buggy as a certain dungeon in a certain PVP-focused MMORPG I used to play...)"I think they're fun" is a valid opinion.
"I like shinies" is also a valid opinion.
"They're fun because they give awesome shinies" is based on an erroneous assumption that the shinies are intrinsically tied to the trials. They are not. They are only tied to the trials because the devs chose to tie them to the trials. -
