  1. Continued debates with people who don't understand how the system works (Dahjee, Zahl, etc) serve absolutely no purpose.

The better thing to do would be to create a new thread demonstrating how TS & HD ACTUALLY WORK in game. (Supplemented by screenshots and videos proving it.)

It seems that coherent argument and demonstrating knowledge of how the system works is not enough to encourage the dev team to remove HD & TS. So therefore we must SHOW them why.

The truth is on our side. Proving it via case study would be a way to finally put this boring topic to rest.

You'd be surprised at how much stuff gets lost in the shuffle at Paragon Studios. I remember lobbying for PVP changes about a year and a half ago by asking a bunch of PVPers to spam bug threads & a Q&A session on formspring with lists of powers bugged in PVP.

It surprisingly worked...to an extent. One of the QA team got in touch and I passed on a list of PVP bugs. Some of the bugs got changed. (Fiery Embrace, etc. Nothing major sadly.) Most didn't.

All of the bugs I told them about had been active in the game for a while, had been documented, and had been written about on the forums. The dev team simply aren't watching this place, and aren't listening to PVPers. Issue 13 BETA suggested it, and the way they've behaved since has absolutely proved it.

Logically, those in group num1 one have to out-number those in group two. If everyone were working the system efficiently, then we would all already be challenged.
It's not about challenge though. As that's not the chief motivator of either of the groups you mentioned. The motivation here is for the improvement of the system itself, rather than personal performance within said system.

You also forgot group 3 - people who can't work the system, think they can work the system, and are completely happy with how things are. (Dahjee, etc.)

Your two posts also slightly contradict each other but that's not overly important. It does suggest that you're not familiar enough with the different demographics that PVP though.

All AE farms do is produce lvl 50 nubtards who don't have the slightest clue about anything their character can do outside of what they have read in a guide or had a friend tell them. (unless they are making an exact carbon copy of a skill set they have on another character... and what is the point of that? ... they already have one.)

I would much rather take a month or two to level my character up the hard way by doing missions and end up having a build that suits my play style and the knowledge of what all my skills do and when to use them.
I PL characters to 50 all the time and know how to play them.

This game isn't particularly hard to understand.

You're right. They look amazing. Their backstory is amazing. Their relvance to CoH is amazing. Let's continue to talk about the new amazing Rulu-Shin-Kata Clan Ritzu Fantasy VIII.
  7. How to fix PVP?

Have Zwillinger practice with WARE.gov. Let them educate him. (In exchange for Glad Javs.) Hopefully some of that will trickle back to the dev team.

IM SO MAD THAT PEOPLE DONT AGREE WITH MY OPINION EVEN THOUGH I AM COMPLETELY RIGHT AND THEY ARE STUPID PEOPLE WHO DONT UNDERSTAND GAME MECHANICS.

The reason for the rage is because the devs have an inferiority complex against experienced PVPers, and often listen to the clueless players instead when soliciting feedback. (Hence the I13 changes - an attempt to stop "runners", "pocket emps" and "fotm builds" - these are all things that the devs no doubt think are exploits / run counter to the "spirit of the game".)

Any feedback that is of the "please remove HD/TS because it makes PVP boring" variety is lumped into the "1337 PVPer" category and is summarily ignored by the devs. After all, to the devs, we just want HD/TS off so that we're better in PVP. It has nothing to do with wanting the game to be better, we're just dirty PVP exploiters. We just want to farm casual players to feel good about ourselves.

    Right? Right?

If we want change. I suggest writing posts from a newbie perspective complaining about how PVP makes it harder to chase runners because of TS and harder to stay alive verses 1337 spikers due to heal decay. This is the sort of bottom-up feedback that the devs listen to. (Although I can envision this feedback just causing them to nerf more ****.)

Regardless; When it comes to PVP, the devs will always cater to the clueless whiners that don't know how to play the system. This is because the devs themselves fall into this category. Thus any feedback has to come from the perspective of clueless whiners in order for the dev team to understand it.

Giving feedback from a position of PVP experience, suggesting ways to improve the system to make the game better for everyone, and referencing how the system ACTUALLY works, with numbers and examples to prove it...?

...forget it. Developer ego / inferiority complex will get in the way. No game designer likes accepting that the players know better. In this case we absolutely do.

I would welcome any member of the development team to prove me wrong. (An open statement. In general. And not calling out the devs.)

  10. Had a really great time. Much love to @Johnny Turbo and @Freak Accident for putting all this together. One thing I hear a lot on Virtue is that people are having trouble finding a way into the RP scene, and that they don't like Pocket D RP. I'm hoping that today's event provided some people with a jump-on. It was a fantastic chance to network with other RPers in a superhero-themed environment.

For those of you unable to make it. Here was the format of the event:

    Part 1:

In-Character Press Conference. Donald Fitzer (CNN) interviewed Red-Havok, leader of The Challengers. He introduced us all to the community. Everyone got a chance to praise/encourage/abuse/laugh at us. We basically just stood around and talked, building up hype for...

..,Disaster striking! Paul Ooshun (reformed villain, member of The Challengers), or at least someone that LOOKED like Paul Ooshun started causing havoc at the conference. He then ran off. Leaving The Challengers, and the heroes watching the conference, shocked at what to do.

    Part 2:

    [No screenies i'm afraid]

The Challengers needed help tracking him down. For this next stage we formed an in-character RP league. We put a couple members of The Challengers on each team, and filled in each team with people who had shown up to watch the event. I think we had six teams in total overall.

Each team ran one of the three available MA arcs designed by @Freak Accident. In the arcs, we tracked down the fake Paul Ooshun, discovered that he was a robot, discovered that there were loads of other fake Paul Ooshun robots, destroyed them all, destroyed the factory that produced them, and found out that the REAL Paul Ooshun was being held hotage in Terra Volta.

...sound confusing? Perhaps in recap it was. But the event was paced in a way that made it easy to follow. Also the roleplaying of each team talking to one another via league chat was a lot of fun!

    Part 3:

Having tracked down the REAL Paul Ooshun to Terra Volta. The Challengers, and the large group of heroes that had joined forces with them, faced off against the villain responsible:

    PHANTO!

Phanto (pictured above, packing heat) ultimately escaped. But the assembled heroes were able to rescue Paul Ooshun. (Pictured above, kneeling) Afterwards, everyone finally relaxed, breathed a sigh of relief, and started to make new friends...

Thanks again to everyone who came. This was our first event and I think it went well. I hope everyone enjoyed it, and everyone felt included in the story. We will be running more, so keep your eyes peeled.
  11. I've noticed one scary thing:

Literally everyone in favor of TS/HD doesn't understand how they work.

    That INCLUDES the dev team.

...watch out for his army of ninjas!

    Totally suits.
  16. I hate that the Rulu-Shin are becoming something legitimate in CoH putely by virtue of us talking about them.

Can't we just collectively pretend they don't exist? Rularuu ninjas. Way to jump the friggin' shark.
  17. It's not about catering to former customers. It's about retaining existing customers by improving the product they're already paying for.

I do not like chasing people, and removing TS is only going to further aggravate my irritation with having to chase people around.

Arguing that you like chasing people around is fine and dandy. I can meet that with a simple "fine, but I don't like doing it." Neither one of us is 'right' at that point, and majority rules. I'm okay with that.

Arguing that people won't be able to run away more effectively with a travel power, however, is simply absurd. We both know they will, so let's not pretend like they won't.
Did you mean to quote me?

I ask because literally nothing you wrote had anything to do with what I said.
  19. The contact does not look like a Luddite. He looks like an anime ninja.

WHY IS HE WEARING A FEDORA?

    The Rularuu Shin. Rularuu Ninjas?

    LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME!#

Did marketing tell you to make enemies only out of purchasable parts?

    Where is Numina?

OH WE FORGOT NUMINA IN THE NUMINA-THEMED ARC! QUICK PUT HER IN THE LAST MISSION SOMEWHERE!

Seriously what is this? This is just lame fan fiction.
  20. I don't understand why people are saying PS shouldn't have made the set. Final Fantasy is a massively popular game. This will sell like hot cakes!

I won't buy it. But I know loads of people who will!

    So no-one finished a fight before I13?

What about people who took powers that made it harder for people to run away? Web grenades, slows, holds, etc? You know...things that useful players took. (Aka the guys who didn't show up on melee characters with no travel powers and whine about PVP being unbalanced.)

Again, what about people who weren't able to run away because the opposing team had useful powers. (As opposed to a completely useless 1v1 fiteklubbing melee build.)

It is PVP. People still chase each other. That's how 99% of PVP goes down. It's just SLOWER now.

Again: you are still chasing people. TS makes it harder for you to catch them. TS slows you both down and makes PVP less fun to play.

I don't think you have a lot of experience in PVP. Your argument in favour of TS doesn't actually mention what TS ACTUALLY does...it just mentions what it was INTENDED to do. It doesn't make it easier to catch runners, it doesn't make it easier for melee character versus ranged ones. (If anything it makes it harder!)

All TS does is slow down the gameplay and make it even easier to gank people.
  22. This is a horrendously bad idea. It will not end well.

That said. If PS is going the route of making top tier items purchasable...could I buy all my incarnate abilities in the store too? I'd love to never have to do another iTrial again.
