Quote:Agreed...I just finished watching it recently found it really entertaining. The Hideyoshi gender confusion is played well through the whole series.Baka and Test needs a +1. Dang, but it is funny. Especially the swimming pool episode (#6). Classic "trap" but they give Hideyoshi his/her own gender/changing room as to keep playing up the gender confusion.
I just finished watching Angel Beats, also, and found it to be a lot better series than I thought it was going to be. -
I only watch legal streamed, so this is a fairly good deal, but only time will tell as to what the fallout will be.
I know Niconico isn't as region restricted with the ones they stream, where as Crunchyroll has to restrict certain regions as laid out in the agreement for that show. There will most likely be overlapping shows streamed, but if a bidding competition starts for a show or shows, that's where Crunchyroll could start feeling the pinch. -
Things could start getting difficult for Crunchyroll.
While this is fairly good news, I hope they upgrade the Niconico player, at the very least, to the one Hulu uses and keep the option of hiding viewer comments....Crunchyroll has me spoiled with their 720p streams. -
Quote:An update on this....Crunchyroll will be airing the episodes of Fate/ Zero, so there won't be a need for a Niconico account if you don't have one already.Should also be noted that this is on the Niconico Japan site with english subs and the episodes are only free for 7 days....after which you'll need to 'subscibe' for the season the show airs. It 'should' only cost 25 cents to do that since that's all I paid to catch up on the 2 Blood-C episodes I missed.
If you have a Niconico account you should also be able to log onto the Japan site, I was able to with mine...so far at least. -

Two more of series I was following just ended recently, and one of them giving me mixed feelings about it.
Kamisama Dolls:
I didn't start following this series until the 5th episode had been released, but ended up liking it and following it to the end. It's not the most action oriented show, but the 'doll' fights are pretty good and the background flashbacks of the 2 main characters, Aki & Kyohei, explain fairly well why they are like they are.
It ends on a cliff hanger, sadly, but has flashes of the next season at the very end.
Blood-C: Production I.G
This one is a new story about Saya that has no connection to Blood+ or Blood: the last Vampire and has Clamp doing the art work. This is the show I have mixed feelings on and will say to watch it if you're a fan of the Blood series/franchise, but don't expect it to be like the previous 2.
The show can be an exercise in frustration with Saya, at times, and the deaths are quite graphic (most of which are partially covered in the 'white fog of censorship' ) but the fight scenes are pretty well done. Once you hit episode 9 (if you do ), things start to fall in place and the final 2 episodes end with a bang.......and a cliffhanger. Yes, the series will end with a feature film on June 2, 2012. -
Yeah, I knew the manga was finished and there was enough for another season, but with the ending they had, it could end where it did or go on. My description of the manga ending was a forum friendly, kind version....some people were really vocal about. >.<

Can watch it here nice and legal.

you can turn of the annoying captoins with the little box in the lower right corner.

Some of the Spring and Summer show are starting to wrap up, with the new season starting in a couple weeks.
Two of the shows that have finished I would recommend watching are:
Usagi Drop:
- A very well done and heart-felt anime.
It's a bit short at 11 episodes but I think it ended in a good place. If they decided to make a second season, I may be a bit hesitant to watch it. I've read that after chapter 47 in the manga, the story takes a weird turn and ends up with one the the worst endings anyone could think of. (I've not read the manga, but when so many people echo the same thing it makes me a bit skittish about another season.)
STEINS;GATE :
OK, this has to be my favorite.
It's hard to describe it and do the show any justice, for me at least, but the underlying theme of the show is Time Travel. The story and pacing were well done and laid out with plot twists, turns and reveals make you look forward to the next episode. (they did to me at least )
There will be a movie coming out next year, but it's a stand alone and has nothing to do with the story that just finished. Funimation pick up it's license earlier this year and it'll be out on dvd/blu-ray next year. -
Quote:Plenty of good newer and classic driving songs listed in here..and I can't believe i forgot these guys (that's what I get for posting before bed).... Airbourne, 'Runnin' Wild.same here.
I also have a Black Label Society/ Zakk Wylde compilation that has the Ozzy with Randy Rhodes 'Crazy Train' tossed in just because.
When I really want to start things off with a bang, I pop in some Spineshank and que up 'Synthetic'....(Youtube it, if you don't remember/ know the song)
Marshal stacks ftw. \m/ \m/ -
Quote:same here.
Queensrÿche's Operation Mindcrime album for riding/driving

Quote:I usually 'try' not to base the new shows on first impressions, but the 'Summer' season is usually what I call a filler season, between Winter/Spring and Fall/Winter, since most of the supposedly (hopeful) big hitters are released then. I never get my hopes up about any season and watch what I can...the ones I don't care for eventually stop getting watched.
Based on first impressions, the new season looks pretty poor.
I watched Usagi Drop and will be following this one this season.
No.6 has caught my curiosity, so I'm going to follow this one and see where it goes.
I've watched some of the other new shows, but haven't formed an opinion one way or the other about them, and I'm waiting for the rest to air their first episodes....The Mystic Archives of Dantalian has my curiosity.
Quote:Mawaru Penguindrum was so bizzare and non-sensical, I have to see where the hell it's going......
I'm still following STEINS;GATE and anxiously look forward to the new episodes. The plot twists and the recent reveal have me hooked.
I'm going to recommend Gosick as a show to check out. It may not be for everyone since it's a Drama/Mystery/Romance hybrid, but it has an emotionally powerful final 3 episodes that more than make up for the slow first 5. The first 5 episodes seem to take forever, (though the whole series is beautifully drawn and it helps to distract you from that) but 6 - 8 lay the groundwork about Victorique's past and the episodes after that establish the underlying plot that unfolds in the second season. -
It takes a bit to get going but is really worth the watch, so give it about 6 episodes. I watched it on Crunchyroll when it was streamed from Japan and it was my favorite stream of that season.
There are 2 special (OVA) episodes..12.5 & 25...only time will tell if A.S. will show them. I don't have a working television anymore, so I haven't watched any cable/ broadcast for about a year now. -
-
I'll +1 Rideback, also. (watched it a few months ago)
I've been mainly following the new weekly releases on Crunchyroll & Funimation, as of late, and re-watching Samurai Champloo when I get some time.
Control (C), Deadman Wonderland, Sket Dance, STEINS;Gate, Gosick, and World only God Knows are the ones I've been following.....they all have different aspects that I find amusing/entertaining.
The OP for Deadman Wonderland is my favorite of the season, so far. It's a remake (new lyrics) of Fade's song Black hearts and Dollar signs, which I 'think' was also used in GT 5's game music. -
I enjoyed D. Gray Man, but it saddens me that the last two seasons will most likely never see dvd release in the West. Granted, the third season had a lot of filler and the 4th season left off in a grey area, because it caught up with the manga, where it 'could' continue on.
-
I just finished watching Evangelion 2.22, which covers episodes 11 - 19, and it blew me away. All of the work they did to it with the updating of the Eva's, Angels, story line, and the changes to familiar scenes have really changed how the story comes across.
I had no issues with the original series, but there is barely anything used from the original and the emo-Shinji scenes are all but gone, except for a couple.
I will now have to patiently wait for the third one, Q, to be finished. -
I just recently finished watching it and can also recommend it.
There's a sticky thread you 'might' want to add this show to. -
-
I just finished watching Canaan (Kay-naan) last night.
It's a solid show with good action scenes and nice over all visuals and good soundtrack. This is what greets you at the start of each episode, Mind as Judgment
It'll take 4 episodes before you start to grasp what is going on, but that seems to be the norm for most 13 episode series lately.
There are a few plot holes, but I think that the writers relied too heavily on the fact people were familiar with the Wii game, 428: Fūsa Sareta Shibuya de, is the reason. You don't need to be familiar with the game to watch it, since the story is pretty much a stand alone that focuses on the main character, Canaan. -
Quote:There are two movies that expand/ wrap the series up, with the first one being released on dvd/ bluray late April. It did feel some what unfinished, but I watched it knowing there are 2 movies coming and still really enjoyed it.My feelings on Eden of the East were kinda split... the art in the show was downright beautiful, and the general setup was interesting, but it didn't actually do that much with it. Great concept, mediocre execution. But maybe I was expecting to be wowed because of Kenji Kamiyama's involvement.

Quote:I'm just about done watching both seasons of Kenichi and it is a fun show to watch so far, but I do find Niijima quite the annoyance some times. +1I'll get to it when I get to it! Grr...
Also, finished watching the first two parts of Kenichi TMD and have formed a better description of it. Imagine the wimpiest and most cowardly guy you know. Now, throw him into a dojo with, basically, the six best martial arts masters on the planet. You have Sakaki the karate master who likes a cold beer, Kensei Ma the lecherous kung fu master, Shigure the sedate and voluptuous kunoichi/weapons master/carrier of a mouse named Tochemaru, Akisame the learned judo/jujitsu/aikido master, Apachai the enormous and simple/good natured muay thai master, and the Elder whose name and specialty escapes me ATM. Naturally, it's a rather well-endowed and oblivious classmate that gets him involved with these people, as the Elder is her grandfather, and she's no slouch at the butt-kickery either plus she ends up saving Kenichi a time or two.
Now, what would happen if said wimp manages to beat a big, bad karate practioner in one of the high school clubs? And continues to get lucky in his fights? So much so that he attracts the attention of the local delinquent club.
Oh, and the show has one of the slimiest and most repugnant characters I've ever seen. Nijihara the information broker/collector.
I have a series, I ordered with a gift card, that should be here next week...Canaan. I've only seen one episode on the Anime Network, so I have no clue if the rest of the series is any good. *crosses fingers* -
It's not that I didn't like the humor in Panty and Stocking, it's right down my alley. It just seemed to me that they're trying too hard to push the envelope (my personal opinion), and that's where they lost me.
I have a friend that gave me the same opinion about a series I liked, and currently waiting on the 2nd season to be released, so I can re-watch it all over again....Initial D.
It's kinda soap opera-ish, heavy on automotive cliche', and a fair amount of over-embellishment, but I couldn't stop watching it. The race scenes are done really well, the sound track fits perfectly, and they did a good job of matching up cars with their unique sounds. (car guy thing...)
He liked the sound track, but pretty much face-palmed at the portion of the first season he watched. -
I just finished watching Eden of the East and really enjoyed it. The trailer for it doesn't do it justice as far as action/ plot twists go.
I tried to watch Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt............. (facepalm) -1 -
Just finished watching Durarara, on Crunchyroll, this weekend. Durarara
It's a pretty good show, not highly action oriented but fairly well written. The first 3 episodes feel a bit loose and a touch slow, but it gets better after that.
The opening song for episodes 1 - 12 has a fairly cool beat.
