Our record is 5-1 since ESK forfeited their match. I'm sorry that some of you once again want to bust on JAL, but the bottom line is that they agreed to a fight and then left after the match was listed. JAL was there all 6 hours of the open fight times and we tried very hard to get matches against every group. Does anyone REALLY FEEL that we should take a loss in that situation when we were ready and prepared? I give ESK a ton of credit, but does anyone really doubt what the outcome of that match would've been anyway? TGIA did make the call because that set of circumstances was not discussed beforehand. He made a decision based on what he felt was most fair and I would've supported the exact same decision for FoL, OS, Velocity, or any other group in that same set of circumstances.
Another point of contention seems to be that our margin of victory was higher and it was CLEARLY laid out in the TGIA's first post to anyone that took the time to read and prepare that this was a method of dealing with ties. None of these things should be any shock to any of you.
I cut it out for you guys to all read again:
[ QUOTE ]
Initial ranking will be based first on win to loss ratio. Ties will be decided by who has beat whom. In an instance where that does not rectify the problem it will be based on margin of victory, and then on over all victories if mov still does not satisfy the problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL drama... I look forward to the fights. If you guys didn't read that first and fight accordingly, that is not anyone's problem but your own.
Personally, I don't care at all where we start with all your drama, crap, and accusations. Would you just prefer JAL leave the game and have one less group to fight? Everyone seems intent on chasing people off that have success and work hard. I'm sure you'd rather there be even fewer people in the competitive PvP world. Hasn't that happened enough already?
Put us on the bottom rung if it's that big of a deal... we just want to fight matches and do the best we can. -
Good suggestion regarding the forum section and it is being followed up on.
What are you looking for when you ask for a list of who is in it... 'it' is the ladder? If so, that should pretty clear if you read the signup threads and will be posted again with the initial seating of the ladder after Wednesday night's matches if you don't feel like scrolling back. -
You're on the site for it. TGIA is handling the setup of the initial ladder and there will be additional threads created for challenges and results for each the villain and hero side once initial seating is established.
I'm not exactly sure what you feel is missing... everything was laid out pretty clearly regarding how the ladder was setup, what the SG leaders needed to do, etc. Please share specifically where you feel lack of organization or communication happened.
There obviously is no ladder ranking yet because there are still initial setup matches for Wednesday night. As far as who is in the ladder, that information is readily available by viewing the rosters and SGs signed up for it on this thread. -

I was/am a little curious about the ranking system. Is that something that other ladders use or was it created for this? Moving up one rung at a time and only dropping one rung for inactivity means that a team thats been undefeated for a few months could still be ranked behind a team thats basically left the game and forfeited every match theyve had over the same time frame. I would think that there should be some sort of inactivity limit along the lines of If you havent fought a ladder match in 2 months, youre automatically moved to the bottom of the ladder or some sort of penalty that goes beyond forfeiting a match or two every two weeks.
[/ QUOTE ]
The thought process behind this was that it will be easily self sustaining. There are not so many in the ladder that it will take long for the inactive group to get moved to the bottom. There probably should be a rule for removal once that group hasn't participated for a period of time. Two months sounds pretty good, but we'd all have to get together to discuss this and make it official.

[ QUOTE ]
The ladder will begin immediately following a tournament where every group will face one another to determine starting rank
[/ QUOTE ]
Is it correct to assume that this tournament will take place over some number of weeks, rather than in one day or one weekend? If groups have two weeks to schedule a challenge on the ladder, I would expect that there is an understanding that not all groups will be available on a given day, so the tournament would need to be spread out to allow teams to schedule matches against each other.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe what was discussed was running official matches on a Sunday night and again on a Wednesday night within a bracket of time (i.e. 9pm EST to midnight) and then anyone that wasn't able to make either of those days can schedule a time on their own to establish initial seating. The hope is that between the two nights, all groups should be able to make it and fight each other.
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
All challenges within two rungs must be accepted and the matches completed within 2 weeks from the time the challenge was issued. If a group is unable to participate in a match within this time frame, it is automatically a win for the challenging group.
[/ QUOTE ]
You can have more than one outstanding challenge at a time, correct? So, the team ranked 3rd can challenge both of the top 2 teams in hopes of scheduling fights against both teams in the next two weeks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Correct.
[ QUOTE ]
If Team A (ranked 5th) challenges Team B (ranked 3rd), and then subsequently gets defeated by Team C (ranked 6th) which drops Team As rank to 6th, does Team B still need to schedule a fight with Team A, or can that challenge be dropped in favor of scheduling a match with Team C (now ranked 5th)?
[/ QUOTE ]
My understanding is that once the challenge is accepted that it should be completed as Team A was within the mandatory two ranks at the time the challenge was issued and accepted, things could become complicated otherwise. I would say part of this scenario depends on the timing, though. If it was early in the challenge process (i.e. the challenge wasn't yet accepted) and the challenging team's rank got dropped before that acceptance happened, then the higher team could decline the challenge if they chose to do so.
[ QUOTE ]
What happens if Team B (#3) challenges Team A (#1), and Team A can only fight on Friday, Sat, Sun, but Team B is only available every other night? Is Team A (The team being challenged) required to fight at a time when the challengers indicate they are available?
[/ QUOTE ]
One would hope that there is a time that can be agreed upon. It's recommended to list your group's regular availability here to avoid potential conflict. This situation could be mediated on a case by case basis between the SG leaders and PvPEC representatives. If not resolved, then a decision could be made in favor of one group over the other and a change in rank is possible based on that decision.
[ QUOTE ]
If Team #1 on the ladder says that they are up for a match on Friday at 9pm EST, but Teams #2 and #3 are not available at that time, can they fight anyone else that is available at that time in an official ladder match? If two teams are available, should they fight the highest ranked (the #6 instead of the #11)? Does it matter who accepts the challenge first or is it at the higher ranked teams discretion to fight who they want?
[/ QUOTE ]
They can fight the available group and it does not matter who accepted the challenge first. All that matters is that the matches are completed within the 2 week time frame from the date each challenge is issued. Schedules are flexible otherwise.

[ QUOTE ]
Vengeance will not be allowed in any match. Use of Vengeance is an automatic forfeit for that match.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does this mean that no players build can have Vengeance (i.e. even if they dont use it)? I would assume thats the case, but just wanted to confirm. If not, I could see accusations of they used vengeance no we didnt yes you did.
[/ QUOTE ]
If someone uses Vengeance at all right now, they lose the round. A player can have it in their build, but cannot use it. It is encouraged that they remove Vengeance from any binds or trays so that it cannot be accidentally triggered. If you see someone with Vengeance, provide a screenshot for proof.
[ QUOTE ]
Sorry for the long post. I just want to make sure Im clear on how things will work.
Hell Raisers will be joining the ladder and I will post our roster soon.
[/ QUOTE ]
The deadline to get your roster posted is Sunday night (July 22nd). This is required to get in the initial seating of the ladder as agreed upon by the SG leaders at the meeting.
In addition to the above, I believe now that with unlimited name changes available on test, an additional rule to address naming conventions should also be added for official matches. -

Smoke... I want a rematch! It's been too long already. -
Hey everyone... I volunteer along with some other great people in the Events and Tournaments subcommittees and am the liaison for Pinnacle. I have a strong FPS background and still wander back to my roots to play when I feel the need to. CoH is my first and only MMO and I enjoy it immensely. I, like the rest of you, would love to see some things fixed/leveled out... but more importantly I want to see the community come together to appreciate this aspect of the game more. I'm seeing some of the things coming together from the committee and am pretty excited.
I mostly play on my home server, but really have enjoyed participating in some events on test such as the PvP League that Rift held. I have had the pleasure of hosting successful PvP events on Pinnacle and while we have a one of the smallest server populations, we do have some really great PvPers. I hope to bring them some great events to participate in and look forward to watching people get rewarded for their practice and skill. As for the big events... I can't give details yet, but wow... -
Through the PvP Event Committee, we now have a server calendar for our server (as do each of the other servers including test for PvP events). This is for all of you to be able to review events at a quick glance and to ensure that we have no conflicts on dates and times. It's going to be a busy summer!
Pinnacle's Event Calendar Here!
Events posted on the calendar should be major events for the server. Examples of this are Hamidon Raids and PvP events. Task Forces/Strike Forces will not be posted on the server calendar.
If you have a server-wide event coming up, please send me a PM so I can add it to the calendar. If you make a thread on the public boards outlining your event, I'll link your calendar post back to that thread for easy access to all of the event information. -
Congratulations on fifty to:
Doc Fyror
Light Darkness
Space Kitten

The big thing is that if you make more powers and powersets PvP friendly, more people may PvP, thus making it an even bigger part of the game.

I really had to QFTx500000000000

True dat.

Agreed a billion percent, but this assumes an inherent desire of the devs to make PvP a bigger part of the game. *That* would be lovely. -
[ QUOTE ]
I wanted to chime in to 1) show that someone reads your goodly threads 2) let you know that PvP issues are not completely forgotten 3) re-iterate that I do want to do some organized PvP stuffs (like organize a tourney with players, etc.) and lastly (ok here comes the bad stuff) 4) let you know a little about PvP from the dev side.
So, as you all know, City of Heroes was developed as a PvE game. As such, PvE changes affect everyone that plays CoH, unlike PvP which only comes to affect those who chose to engage in it. Long and the short of it, while there are some small PvP thingies getting some attention (like _Castle_ posting about Brute Fury in PvP a few days ago) there are not any big PvP issues on the nearer term feature lists.
However, we still really appreciate the great feedback (and when you guys aren't hazing each other ). Hopefully you can understand the reason and rational behind that.
On the tourney issue, I really want to set one up, but looking at the schedule I'm not sure where in the near term we can cram one in (darn holidays and some travel!). If any players are interested in helping to set one up (or setting it up and having me do a bit of promoting for it) please feel free to PM me on the forums or write me at Lighthouse@ncsoft.com
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you for your very PR response Lighthouse. We now know where we rank (officially) as far as importance in the devs eyes (somewhere below some random costume part) and I'm sure many will now be looking for a game that delivers on the PvP promises they make, which makes me very sad because good and bad, I love this game. There is amazing POTENTIAL for PvP here, and like anything with great potential comes the feeling of loss when you start to accept that it will not be realized. Like so many things in the software world, someone envisioned something, but is not delivering due to either lack of funding, lack of passion, or lack of understanding.
What we really wanted out of this was *gasp* a stable arena to play in and attention to paid to some of the issues at hand that have been SOOOO clearly laid out for anyone that gave a damn to read. Your participation in the PvP side of the game is a nice bone to throw, but it doesn't fix the problems that we're having. I'd really like to see you run a tournament and see for yourself how difficult it can be and how many bugs we have to put up with in order to PLAY.
I'm normally pretty quiet, but I can't help but feel sorrow for the extensive time I've now been playing this game and my (and many others) end game content (PvP) continue to take the lowest priority when so many promises were made and so much excitement instilled throughout our time here in this game.
That's all. -
Very nice post! Agreed completely!
No rez / No heal / No Team Buff means that you better be REALLY GOOD at debuffing. Period!
Thank God people like me or else I'd never get a team. -
[ QUOTE ]
Sweet! This is very welcome news. Now it just makes being an EA Brute that much more fun! Perhaps now I can play on a difficulty higher than the lowest... I was always a little miffed how Resistance worked against everything equally (95% resistance to damage is 95% resistance to any damage; it doesn't get reduced except by debuff) while Defense could be debuffed AND reduced by a simple advantage in levels. Sounds cool, I'll get to testing it as soon as this patcher gets done.
[/ QUOTE ]
My EM/EA brute was running on relentless since the early 20's and I solo'ed almost my entire way to 40. Are you guys sure you're building your toons right? Overload was a beautiful thing at 38, but only made it that much more fun for me. It was definitely doable before then with a good build.
On test, I'm experiencing good things... this heightens my enjoyment further. Thanks devs...
