Quote:Unless I've been mis-reading, I'm pretty sure she hasn't...Eiko has repeatedly claimed that soloing and teaming should provide the exact same rate of reward. But that's Eiko.
So why name them at all? Why not just call them 'Training: Damage Enhancement' and 'Mutant/Science: Damage Enhancement', 'Technology: Damage Enhancement'?
Unless it's a case of one apart applying while another part doesn't. Enhancements and inf and Inventions are ALL metagame tools that a game needs.
None of which stops Influence from being a monitary system. -
Quote:Point is true, yes. But the Devs are obviously content with it working that way, so...*shrug*Just to point out a *slight* misconception about the WST rewards... its once per WST cycle and NOT once a week.
So in theory you could get 2 in 2 days, just run it once on monday, and then again on tuesday once it shifts over.
*edit*
Just wondering, but is there also a time limit on the crafting of the Notice from Shards? -
Quote:And a lot, if not all, of that has been introduced after one Mr Jack Emmert and his 'Bosses should take a team to defeat' inspired 'vision' for the game. But it hasn't encouraged all playstyles equally.
How long does it take a soloer to earn reward merits compared to TF runners?
Before reward merits, how difficult was it for soloers to get good recipes?
PVP itself was originally balanced around teams, not one-on-one.
Yes, options have been introduced as time goes on, but that's not necessarily the devs "seeing the light;" it can also be that they're making things easier for the soloers after the people willing to team have begun to exhaust the part of the system the soloers are only now getting easier access to.
The options are nowadays there and for the most part balanced. No one that I know is asking for soloing to suddenly be as fast as teaming, because that makes no sense. But 'slower' should not mean 'sign here to grind your life away if you dare to want this shiney'.
And its a game. What else do people have to aim for, but the shinies? -
Quote:Yes, but all the enhancement and money system in this game has utter balls to do with canon anyway.Inf is not money within the game canon, it only functions as such for metagame reasons.
Either that or my tech chatacters are walking around with 15 odd hearts and 22 odd eyes everywhere, with exloding-bullet fists and cyber-confrapulationary-gizmondo's stuck on every which where.
So, for all sane intents and purposes, Inf = Cash. You buy stuff with it. You sell stuff and get it in return. You earn it. Cash by any other name is still cash. -

Quote:If the Conversion method was gated to a Once a Week cooldown (much like Gr'ai Matter conversion is gated to one every 24 hours atm), then that would already make it harder and longer to achive than doing WSTs.I have a sneaking suspicion that the cost to craft notice's will be lowered. I do think the price is a little too high as is.
However, crafting it definitely should take longer for obvious reasons. And it's hard to compare the WST vs. the conversion method since the WST is time gated. It takes a minimum of 4 weeks to craft a very rare, so it should take over a month to obtain a very rare the 'solo' way. Now that's only considering the current system that we know. Things can change once we know about how it's going to work with the incarnate trials.
And (one more time) making players only able to Convert a Notice OR Earn one via WST, so a One a Week no matter the method, would also stop exploitation. -
Quote:40 Shards is a lot, but also not unreasonable IMO.I think that we can actually agree that the cost for craft it is extreme...
40 Shards and all the other components? A tad too steep.
All that AND a rather large sum of Inf? What does money have anything to do with an entity like the Well? It stinks of being a totally arbitrary barrier that also goes against canon. -
Quote:True. Thats not what is being pointed out though. Making a 'solo option' that is basically saying 'You have to suffer if you do not team and do the WST' is also not positive evolution in a game that has until now encouraged ALL playstyles equally. The holy trinity and teaming are completely unrelated.
It baffles me that you should think moving away from a social activity in a social game is a good thing. Making accommodations for all types of play is fine, but moving from teaming to solo play is not positive evolution. -
Quote:^ This is the point I keep trying to make.Okay this post may come off as a little offensive, but what the hell.
When did you start playing MMO's? Do you even remember when the genre was just for the geekiest of the geeks? When to even level up you were required to have a team consisting of tank, healer and DPS? The holy trinity mean anything to you?
Design of MMORPG's have moved on from there, and this a good thing. You can argue try arguing that it's not, but you would be flat out wrong. Socially and economically wrong.
You want the system to encourage teaming?
It already does, shards drop a lot faster on teams.
Nothing else in the game requires teaming as the only viable option.
Leveling? Nope
The invention system? Nope
WST = Faster than getting 40 Shards (If you made the Notices ONLY cost that). And you can have the shards AND the Notice. People who do the conversion have to sacrifice MORE shards than those who do the WST.
Make the conversion and WST both count towards 'One a Week'. Bam; both sides win. Soloing is no longer a totally unreasonable option, but teaming and WSTing it is still the faster way.
Win win. -
Quote:So, you just wish people would shut up and agree, rather than have their own opinions?Nowhere in this game is there a 'you must team' mentality. If you want to get Incarnate stuff (at the better rate) then you need to team, but nobody is forcing you to, they are even explicitly giving you another way to get the stuff if for whatever reason you just can't/won't team for it.
I really wish people would stop posting stuff like the quote above as if it were true and then using it to support their arguments. It just necessitates andother refutation and unnecessarily pads the discussion.
Because you know that ain't happening, right?

The first one I don't, simply

The second one...eh...Wyldy is partially demonic, now. Her powers were gained during a demonic pact that her Hellion 'friends' (she was the general tag-along) were attempting to sneakily use her as the sacrifice for. She had twigged rather sharpish (not to mention the demonette they summoned decided to spill the beans when asked) and instead made a pact for power.
The difference with her pact was that she actually fulfilled it pretty much instanty, by burning a swathe through a good chunk of the gangers in Perez that day, and providing enough souls to 1) Impress the Demon enough to make the power permanant and 2) get her locked up by MAGI until they slapped bounds and counter pacts on her and then forced her into clean-up duty.
Which of course worked as well as expected, leading to her fleeing to the Rogue Isles as soon as the bonds broke
Why do I play her? Ehh...it makes sense for how she got her powers, she's still technically human. Iunno *shrug* -
Off-topic (I think
) I personally hate speed runs. Someone on an LRSF insisted on skipping whole mobs and then TPing everyone through whole floors. I find that intensely disorienting, even though I have 'Prompt for TP' toggled on. If I was mod-mob, it also glitches my pets out something awful.
They also made us skip Valkyrie after her rez and MoG. Now, I hate Valkyires MoG. I hate it almost as much as I hate Reichsman, because it is the single biggest 'I cheat' button ever made. She could even dent us. And yet we couldnt touch her at all. And then everone else got TP'd off, leaving me facing one irate AV. I was not amused.
Speed runs, for me, are incredibly dull. I love chewing out entire mobs and cackling a little as the team steamrollers stuff. More crushing, more drops, more fun. And yet speed running seems to be becoming the norm for so many that Im having to start my own TFs (not such a big deal as I used to find it, admittedly) to do what I term 'Alpha Runs'; If it moves, kill it. If it doesnt move, kill it anyway. If you cant target it, drop a damage patch on it for good measure. And Kill Everything!

Quote:You get 3-4 for an Uncommon (which costs 8)When did this change, then? Last time I looked at the conversion recipe you break down a component (which takes 4 shards to make normally) and would get 3 shards back. If it's been changed to 1 then that sucks.
As of Live, Commons break down fro jsut the 1 shard -

Quote:1 shard. You can only get 1 shard from the end component.Friend of mine did Kahn in under 18 minutes yesterday. He's a powergamer, sure, but the fact is it can be done.
If you're so resolute that you can't team for 30 minutes to knock out an ITF once a day (which is a guaranteed 3 shards via the end reward if nothing else) I have to admit that I personally don't feel for you. A 30-minute ITF is not hard, you don't have to be a 'powergamer' to do it, and people are always running them (because they're so fast).
And I have yet to see a 30 minute ITF, despite running with some very good players with some honestly obscene builds. If by 30 minutes you mean 'Ghost absolutely everything you can', well...myeah. Doesn't contribute much to shard earnings, I know that much. -
See, I dont get what...why is it a supposedly monthly contest, and yet it ends before the month is even 2/3 of the way through? Sure, it evens out in the rest of the month for the next one, but...it's just mildly irritating is all =/
Blah...*sets to work* -

Quote:I LOVE that armour. Very, very nicely done.Figured it'd be too easy to go for a mystical mythological type character, So I tried something a bit more Tech inspired.
Without further ado, I give you Bully for Bullets:

Side note: Piercing Rounds looks particularly impressive using a max height, huge bodied bovine.
And this goes to show WE NEED BIGGER GUNS, damnit! -
Ugh, when's the deadline again? Because I still have quite a bit to do (thanks RL...)

You can take @Techbot ALPHA when you pry it f-
Actually no. You CAN'T have @Techbot ALPHA, because I will nuke you from orbit before you even try and take it!

Yeah, sorry but no. Bad suggestion is bad.
