Quote:Or maybe someone should re-write all the dross to make him the more interesting character he was in the comics? (At least the ones I read)If I see another clone of the game's least interesting character, I will scream. Please, if we are going to have a medieval zone, let it be without the taint of the Statesman story for a change....
Still, Excalibur would be a better link for a medieval zone IMO -

Quote:Tell you what then, when I20 goes live, the very next Notice you have to get, try getting it the conversion way. No WST, no BAF, JUSt the conversion way.You and me both, bud. There's no 'forced teaming' required anyway (once this conversion recipe goes live, that is) so maybe if I bash my head in too I'll be able to understand why 'forced teaming' is even an issue.

I'd agree that a lot of the Incarnate stuff isn't very 'solo friendly', but then again TFs have never been 'solo friendly' so I'm not sure why it would be an issue now but it never was in the past (at least, I never noticed it being one).
If you're not mashing your face into the desk by the wuarter-way mark, I'll back down
-
Also, TFs never stopped you getting any content that was being touted as much as the Incarnate stuff. And also, TFs have always had the arbitrary 'Must have X people' limit on them, whereas the first half of the Alpha slot didnt, before suddenly getting kicked in the fork with something similar halfway through. -
Quote:Ok;Actually, what's more likely is someone created a new, throwaway account with some free GR trial time they had and changed the in-game global name to one that would fool people into thinking it was Sexy Jay.
The person in question was later reported by members of the CapeRadio channel to GMs, and the next night that global named was generic'ed (when a global name is changed everyone in the channel is sent a system message) with dozens of witnesses.
These riddles are guesses and falsehoods. Case closed.
.
1) Why has there been no one else mention this?
2) Why has a chunk of stuff from that (Animal Pack) already been proven right?
3) Why would Jay not come forward and either confirm/deny it?
Oh, and the obligatory 'pics or it didn't happen'. -
Quote:Not being solo-friendly! = Forced teamingThat arc just unlocks the Alpha Slot. Content for Incarnate-powered characters should be even tougher. That's the whole point of the system. Once you get to those levels, "solo-friendly" goes out the window.
I think I may just go and smash my face in for a bit. It'll be easier than trying to get a point across in this thread.

Quote:I take it you've never played Azuria's 'arc'. And I say that with sarcasm, because there is no way you can term that dross as anything honestly resembeling a story arc. The only thing that wasn't built from scratch in it was;Sigh.
Yes, you revamped existing content. Good for you. Revamping, pointing out and fixing flaws, is easy. Creating from scratch is not. Especially content the entire game is going to see and at least a majority of players need to approve of. Content that presumably moves the Incarnate storyline forward, because otherwise people would simply gripe about being given a placeholder arc.
1) Hellions and Skulls (minus unique bosses)
2) Maps (obviously)
3) The fact the arc had the low level mobs in
Everything else had to be invented from square one to make it 'Non-dross'. -

I hoped you might find it a useless but interesting piece of trivia.

Hmm, put that way...
Myeah. Can't see it doing any harm, really. -
Quote:^ qft.heh, seriously. I'd put my average solo hour of playing at about 10-12 shards. It's still a good 8-9 hours of playing (and playing, not "afking during loading times to alttab and browse the internet", which is what i end up doing solo! ) and compared to a half hour for the weekly tf that's still about twenty times slower, which is a bit much imho. There's lots of middle ground in there to decrease the requirements for a solo notice of the well without falling into ridiculous hyperbole to defend that point.

Quote:Not at all. I had to get help with Holtz and the Honoree on two other chars (Alpha was ok, because..well, becauseIt was forced teaming for me... There was *no* way I was going to get past Honoree and the other dude solo.
I *had* to team up for that mission.
My other half *had* to ask me for help with Trapdoor, but not for the follow up mission (+0x1 for both of us).
So, what do you make of that?
Are you saying that me and my GF are crap players and didnt deserve it? It was challenging "solo orientated" content, but it was also definately forced teaming for me and my GF.
)
However, it is still soloable. As in, there is nothing saying you HAVE to have a team to start the mission. Sure, it might be night impossible for certain ATs and sets, and I wouldn't expect it to be otherwise. Thats always been true of EBs and AVs, so theres nothing new or wrong there.
With the WST, you HAVE to have a team to get a Notice. You HAVE to have a team to do the BAF trial.
The only other option is spending an unreasonable ammount of time and resources on something that does NOT need to be that expensive while still encouraging Teaming and having the solo option being slower. -
What to bring for the new content?
A really BIG gun.

Quote:This coming from someone who has to come up with their own unique snowflake term like 'anti-teamers', when the reality is people who cannot reliably team or who do not want to be a hinderance?I find it interesting how one 'side' of this debate seems to rely on pre-emptively defending their position while at the same time trying to cast aspersions on the 'other side'. It makes it seem like your (general your) reaching for ways to hamstring discussion.

Quote:Given the tools available?Okay. Expect that in i22, since resources need to be allocated to the project and i20 and i21 are already in the pipeline.
What? You want it ASAP? Well, in order to do that we need to minimize use of resources. We can do a cheapie workaround for you. Will that tide you over until we finish in-progress projects and can start working on this one?
IOW: Just how quickly do you think a very well done and challenging story arc can be completed?
About two to three days.
I started work on re-vamping the lowbie arcs using the AE a while back (curtailed due to RL) and all it took for me to revamp an entire 'arc' (i.e. take the crap that was there and hammer out an actual plot and some better mechanics) was an evening and a day.
And thats using the AE, which is basically the Dev tools gutted of all the new features and better shinies they have access to. Unless they were kidding about how similar the two systems were.
So, no, I honestly don't think it takes that long at all. Tops, I'd say it'd take one guy a maximum of 1, maybe 1&1/2 weeks. If that. -
Quote:Bull. My point is, "challenging" and "solo" don't really mix.
If it's a tough challenge, most players are going to need a team, which brings us back to the same "forced teaming" discussion. And the Incarnate content should be a tough challenge.
Incarnate-worthy solo content is easier said than done.
The Ramiel RWZ mission. Hell, the Ramiel arc.
You bet you can solo that. There is NOTHING gating you and saying "You have to Team to do this."
Is it hard? For some ATs, yes! Is it a challenge over all? Pretty much.
So why go from something that works to forced (I don't buy 'encouraging' when the alternative is a Korean-esque grindfest) teaming? Thats just moronic. -
Unfortunately, nothing player-based will fix Masterminds pets to stop them spacking out and acting like Captain McDerpyPants, running up and attempting to brawl with a War Walker. Or from getting mown down by Clockwork AoE -Def spam.
Currently messing around with more macros and even more stringent control of the flipping blighters, but Id much prefer someone to actually FIX the little pissants... -
Quote:All 1-2 of them. The only issue seems to be people who won't team up on principle.
You seem to lump every damn person who would approve of the conversion option into the same group.
Maybe it's just me, but 'anti-team' sounds really patronising...or something. -
Quote:And, for the umpteenth time, I've suggested stuff here that would leave the WST being the fastest and 'best' option (if you can team frequently) WITHOUT having the conversion option being an utter ballache to do.I take exception to the fact that you (general you here, not you personally) will have an option to get these rewards even though you're not participating in the stuff they're normally earned through, but instead of being grateful that it's an option I'm seeing people basically say "No, I want it faster!"
It's not supposed to be fast. It's there as the last resort for people who absolutely refuse to team. If it was faster there would be less incentive to team to get them. And it's been stated outright that all this stuff is designed around getting people to team. The devs want you to team.
Slower than teaming! = So time consuming you might as well give up now
Encouraging Teaming! = Flat out making the conversion option an 'F U' in mechanics form
And I just find your whole 'anti-team' terminology rediculous when I personally know of at least 1-2 people, and have seen others mention it, where it has NOTHING to do with not wanting to team. But I know the whole cadre of people shouting that arguement down aren't going to listen to any god-damn reason about it anyway, so, whatever. I'm gonna save my fingers and go to bed instead... -

Quote:I was joking. I personally find Political correctness bloody stupid and useless about...oo...all the time? Due to the people who insist on it being the same idiots that bleat on along the lines of "Won't somebody please think of the children?!" when the kids could do with a damn good clout and being sent outside in the fresh air...No. It's actually the US Naval enlisted ranks for deck and administrative ratings and has nothing to do with political correctness.

A_W, I have a serious question here. Why does it matter so much to you wether soloers get their options or not? You have your method, you clearly don't mind it, and it is guarenteed to be faster than whatever soloists get because...well, because. We all know that.
I just find it curious that so many people who obviously don't have any issue finding teams and whatnot seem so intent on muscling in on other peoples playing methods... -
Quote:Hmmm....IIRC from the Beta, didn't shard drops on a team roll for everyone when a roll was made? It's really got not much to do with farming, but it does have something to do with how fast you can defeat stuff, which farmers strive to achieve at very high rates.
Let's say you're on a 8-man team, and the team defeats things such that drops are produced at some average rate X. Every time something drops, someone is chosen to receive it at random. Your average rate of getting something is X/8.
Let's say you go soloing. Alone, you can defeat stuff at a rate that's crates drops at, say, just 20% of what the team could, or X/5. But you get to keep all of those yourself. X/5 is 1.6x as many drops per time as X/8.
Edit: To be clear, the X/5 number in particular is picked out of thin air, and is purely for illustration purposes. If your character is a poor soloist, it's easy to imagine that X/8 is an improvement over what they can manage alone. If they're a strong soloist, it may not be.
So, on a x8 team when someone killed a minion then x8 appropriate rolls were made?
I remember there being a mini hubub about that too...
