  1. I uh... managed to reduce it to just 31. You want 5? Crumbs.

    votes moved to correct thread

These are not necessarily the artists I'd commission since I have no godlike Norse cylons, but there's a pile of artists here that I hope might deign to stoop to scrawling my mere mortal in exchange for the root of all evil.
  2. I think TA is a bit of a special case, and his latest contest is also a special case. TA makes a lot of effort to advertise a lot of artists, so it's reasonable that some might be grateful; others might see further advertising opportunities. Some might even chase the prize. I think that's a bigger pull with Schwann contests.

But this contest scored a heck of a lot more entries than he expected (I think I read that someplace, in the torrent of awesome arts). The prizes dilute a bit as a result, but I don't think that was ever his intention. TA might even find more creative ways to reward/promote these artists.

More conventional contest-runners with fewer dA contacts just need a cool theme and/or prizes and an appropriate deadline, and see what sticks. I assume. Get too much art for your conscience? Add some prizes. Got not enough? Hopefully you still had fun. If it's a chore to run, don't do it.

There's a rawness inside those panels that contrasts the tidy finish of the whole page. My mind is inclined to take the pictures seriously, and it is like trying to understand a person from their doodles. Unnerving.

    Which is all good.
  4. Nice sketches. I love the abstracted elements and mood of these.
  5. My goodness. Unbelievably good art, but also telling great stories! Where to start with all the praise?

#67: Perfect headlight. #66: Viking sky raider? #64,#65: So much detail, wonderful compositions. #56: Awesome glow (and who broke my hammer?) [response truncated]

Duuuuude... got curly hair. It's my Sanchez bust! Complete!

Eddy worked some magic on Airhead's hair, and then coloured him perfectly. This is as cool as Airhead gets. Thanks guys!
  7. Toxic! I guess Independence Day is over then.

    A nice Tim-Burton-Dr-Seuss Uncle Sam-I-Am.
  8. My goodness. This is an unbelievable set of pictures. There's some amazing talent with special effects on this page. Winners on all pages, but this one is full of it.
  9. Woah, very nice! Love the colours and the angles. These are beautiful.
  10. These are incredible. I love all the new takes on TA's costume, they've preserved his dark nature but everything else appears mutable. Yet they're all still clearly TA. This last one even has elements of Captain America and Ironman, yet it is still entirely TA.
  11. Most graphitic thread yet. Great series, keep em up!

I'm glad you put these all together here. My short attention span meant I missed some of the themes and subtexts that unfold throughout this powerful sequential drama.

(is glad to be dodging the birthday bullet for quite a while yet)

Googling yourself is supposed to be narcissistic. Or worse. So searching for your hero name on DeviantArt is probably worserer. But look what I found!

Which I commissioned. But almost forgot. Then it got posted just a few hours ago and I found it utterly by accident. Twightlight Zone-y.

I like it. It is a bit different to Joe D's other hero pictures. It has more character. And perhaps less cool. But it's totally Airhead. The expression in the window in back is priceless, and his pose - "come-to-papa-wait-time-out" - should have his opponent confused while Airhead does something unexpected. Wile E. Coyote, he's lookin' at you.

    Feral Kat artz!

I... tried really hard to look at all of this picture. A great picture! All of it, too.

Her face reminds me of Elastigirl. In an innocent way.

At which point you don't need to ask.

I really like the lines on this one.
  15. Singing... "Withdrawal's just another name for, nothin' left to spend..."
  16. These are beautiful pieces, I've enjoyed watching them accumulate.

I think your sense of colour is very good. Very sophisticated. I think sometimes the shading, such as this last piece, could be a bit more intense on the character to give it more depth. In lieu of shadows, you have your lines but since they're of uniform thickness they don't create depth. Unleashing force has darker clothes, which perhaps substitutes for shadow, but he definitely has depth and stands out from his background for it.

But it's a teensy nitpick from someone who can't draw goodly. I am still considerably impressed with this style and the way you use it. Very real looking people. It has a photorealistic-posterized quality.
  17. Wow, that's some amazing warm light on his skin. Fantastic pose too. You started with a good design, but this piece turns him into a god.

70 years - the Amerikatt mantle might have adorned five different cats by then. Yet the fight against the Soul Kitten is eternal!

Airhead just got his own hero-vehicle - the Airacer! Uh, yeah. Defeats villains, and, um, pencils.

Abt-Nihil drew, inked and coloured this racy piece. It all happened when he faved one of my pictures; I glanced at his gallery. He had a fun style, but he also had a promotion, so I came up with a quick concept. Then I found a reference piece, someone put Deadpool on a go-kart. In no time at all, my request became this! I paid a little bit more for the prop, but I still got a lot more than I paid for. Little bit guilty there. I'm really happy with this. Hopefully I can come up with another idea suited to his artistic style.

Good point. I guess I just mean "memorable" - like people remember Superman. In 70 years, people will look back at Airhead and say...

    "He's still alive?"

Caemgen: Acme would do well to bump up the price of cocktail umbrellas. But a duel between the two would be close - where the Road Runner has luck, Airhead has collective stupidity. More likely to be a draw.

PowerStream: Thank you very much! I hope I might someday feature in the same league as Bayani, Thor's Assassin and Caemgen. While Airhead is becomign more consistent, he has also evolved through his arts. His appearance has consolidated. More importantly, this process has helped cement his personality. My Airhead novel suffered from a lack of interesting characters. Now I'm starting to understand his character, and what people find interesting about him. Hopefully I can capture it in words.

Meanwhile I have a bunch of commissions in the works, including efforts by forumites...
  21. Ahah, great group shot. I guess the guy in front is being persecuted for wearing a pointy hat?

The LJ is very cool too. Has a nice attitude to it.

    Yay me?

10K! Congratulations to what seems to me to be the most supportive person ever on this forum! (Okay, so my experience is limited, but it's still my truth).

Of course, you can't answer this, that would bust all your 10K efforts. So I'll save you the effort.

    This +1.

Although, if you'd been able to go a wee bit slower, I was building up the guts to attempt a fan art for the occasion. As it happens, you're probably lucky I didn't. But now at least I have space on my desk to try drawing again. Thanks for that.

I enjoy seeing these too. My time zone doesn't usually work for livestreaming.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

Gift art from the indomitable southparked sand scene specialist Moebius777! The scene was entirely dreamed up by the artist, and yet it fits perfectly with my character concept. Love the background too. A very happy result for Airhead and me.

Check out Moebius' gallery (click on image). He has a truly unique style of handling heroes that might be bigger than a yo-yo craze.

    City of Cute...

The Amerikatt is adorable, but the color scheme suggests something more diabolical. Very nice.
