Thanks Zwill, that will be awesome! I hope the people out this week enjoy their break.

Quote:See, maybe it is because I actually have a wife and kids I feel this way. I have no clue if I do or not, but the loss if them would pretty much get labeled as soul crushing to me. It is the same reason I avoid King books. He agrees that the loss of a child is one of the most horrifying things in the world, and leverages it every chance he gets.I disagree. That's the start - it can go anywhere from there. Now, if it *ends* on that note, then it's more likely depressing.
Which brings up "The Stand" another PA novel/movie. -
-
Any movie that starts with a Guy's wife an kid getting killed can be labeled as depressing.

Quote:Even in the first one he was a trained Cop. Most people thing that Road Warrior was the first one, shoot I did until I was in my teens and ran across Mad Max. Seems there is going to be at least 2 more Mad Max movies.I was under the impression we were discussing the first one.
Road Warrior was definitely more of a post-apocalyptic Leone western in tone...and the less said about Beyond Blunderdome the better.

Quote:Can you stick the slides up for us to look at. I attended the whole thing via ustream (even paid for an account to avoid commercials) I would REALLY like to see the pictures I missed. As much as I understand your request, there is no feasible way for us to devote someone to transcribing our webcasts. Between forums moderation, social media, actually...you know...interacting with players, events, meetings, documentation, feedback, the list goes on and on...
I'm afraid that livestream transcription rests pretty far down on the priority list. -
Quote:Maybe in the first one, but in all the sequels he had transformed into a BA one would not want to mess with.Well, those films are all quite thematically depressing.
But Conan & Batman are pure fantasy while the Leone films are sly distillations of their genre, imbuing them with an underlying humor even at their most apocalyptic.
Mad Max is a straight up exploitation vengeance quest, notably lacking in humor or referential cinematic commentary and deeply rooted in contemporary reality. He isn't battling wizards & monsters, he hasn't trained himself to a superhuman peak of perfection, he's just a dude with a car and a gun.
It's basically Death Wish with some spectacular set piece chase scenes.
Oh there was Steel Dawn Patrick Swayze, not too depressing. Also Six-String Samurai which was PA and pretty cool. -
Man, you have been in rare form the past few days. You really did want Thrown Weapons didn't you?
-
I was a paramedic for 5 years irl. I have no desire to do it in the game. That and I just don't think it is fun. I tried a Rad/Rad Defender and it was just really boring.
-
I am weird, but I found the whole "Dies the Fire" books by S.M. Stirling very uplifting. Then again, I am an avid (or was before cancer) practitioner of such things as sword fighting and wilderness survival.
For a newer look there are the "Directive 51" books (depressing), For PA in our world the book "Ex-Heroes" would be a good look, "The book of Eli" was mentioned at the panel. PA is actually one of my favorite themes in books and movies. I still skipped "The Road" though because of how depressing I have been told it is.
Most PA these days tends to be Fallout style or Zombie PA.
There are a few more cool examples I forgot to give. The movie "Legion" (which I hated) was pretty much a PA movie, also the movie "Priest" was a pretty cool PA movie, that could be considered a super hero movie.
There was a video game a few years ago that was PA and had HUGE potential but the company was run by idiots and it tanked, and was turned into an Asian f2p game that sucks from all I am told. I think NCsoft's Autoassault was also PA.
Yeah, it does have a way of being a depressing theme. I think I like it more because I view it more in the lines of what I would do in the same situation, and it is usually a lot different. -
I never walk, and I am frustrated at any point int he game where I am forced to walk.

Quote:Mea culpa... I was called upon to pitch my Polynesian/Aztec/Zulu idea, but was unprepared.... mostly because it was a really last minute thought, and I hadn't fleshed out specifics. Dark Respite also pitched for a mesoamerican/Aztec/Myan set, and even though her presentation was better than mine, it still didn't catch on.
No hurt feelings here, the Post Apocolyptic/Road Warrior theme fits in with the new Radiation Armor theme. Also, as has been pointed out, the Post-Apoc pieces will lend themselves to more flexibility in mixing with other stuff.
I do hope the Aztec/Tribal theme is re-visited in the future. Maybe someone else can pick up that mantle next time.
If it makes you feel better I liked under the sea, and tribal the best. There were a lot of interesting ideas for Post Apoc thrown around. The hockey mask, a few back details, and a turban head wrap tuskan raiders thing were the most exciting to me. I will be honest and admit I zoned out a bit.
The powers Pannel was the best part of the whole day to me. I wish there had been a few more reveals, and I had two questions that I really wanted asked and answered that never were. That was the most frustrating part of not being there. I want a solid red name answer on the CoT parts we didn't get, and the Black Knight armor.
The long skirt I can understand the concerns with that. But the armored gloves, cool belt, and the big hat? I even wanted to suggest that I would buy a second CoT pack to get those items. :/ But I was not there, maybe next year/time. -
Quote:A lot of feel this way. InfamousBrad made a great post on it a month or so ago.Oh HELL NO!
Kings is just fine, graphically as it is. It's just so easy to blow past its content, which frankly I don't find all that great. Heck this is where all the Street Level heroes would hang out if we had that kind of game mechanic. Its home to Blue Steel and the PPD. Its arcs should reflect that more and the arcs dealing with the gangs need.... to be better?
Heck instead of a giant graphic revamp of the zone how about we just scrub most of the arcs and put in new modern ones. Ill tell you, in my opinion the last couple of issues new arcs have been pretty killer. It makes some of the older arc look really bad. -
Quote:Nothing like that. Shoot sounds like you saw more than I did!I don't really think I need to know. I mean, I didn't *want* to know about some of the other stuff I had seen...I just wanted to see the Sorcery pool...but I saw a lot more than I bargained for. If it's not on beta, I probably don't need to see it (unless it's more power pools like a mutant pool...then I have to see it...or a melee/(de)buff AT...then I need to see that too...)
I have to disagree again though. I am happy that what I like is getting so much attention. That is granted a bit selfish of me, perhaps that is my inner villain coming out.
In a perfect world there would be a whole team dedicated to each AT type. A melee team, a control team, a support team, and a ranged team. Sadly we do not live in a perfect world, and Paragon just doesn't have that kind of money.
To be fair the other ATs are not really getting screwed, they are getting new stuff too, they are just getting more of it for free. -
Quote:Wasn't this talked about extensively in a thread last week? I agree with you, it is on them to change our perception of them. And the behavior of a rabid minority in the PvP community has a lot to do with that perception.
It always has been and probably always will be a tough sell in this game, which was built for PvE and attracted that sort of playerbase. Some PvP'ers continually acting out achieves nothing but reinforcing negative stereotypes. -
You know how much I disagree with this, but this is not the place for it. Drop me a PM and I will key you in on something else.

Quote:This. Really, how many times has some other game suppose to put us out to pasture?Soooo sometimes in 2022? Cause the way things are going I think the money train will be going for a while.
I don't think the whole dev team is perfect. I still want the rest of the CoT costume items, and is it really that hard to tell us if the Black Knight armor is going in the store or not?
But the powers team, yeah, I do think they are the best this game has ever had. There are a lot of reasons for that too. All of them can answer a question or pm w/o being snarky. They are friendly during beta testing. They listen and respond to the desires and concerns of the community. They are willing to work on things the old team wouldn't touch with a 10' staff (pun intended). There are other reasons I could list, but I think you get the point. -
Quote:We have no clue what is in the works, or on what schedule. Did you not find it odd that psi melee was not suggested at the panel? It has been requested for a LONG time, it was one of the options on the survey back in the day. Odd how it was not brought up there. I figure that is because it is already in the works.Right, we don't know. I'm pretty sure Staff Fighting was already animated and mostly set-up before Beast Mastery was leaked and yet was released after Beast Mastery. So order isn't chronologically when the set is finished.
And the set is still a 'bare sketch'...unless one of the devs mentioned the priority of the set, they can still put it aside till (much) later and work on things that are of higher priority...a new blast set might have higher priority since only two ultimately are on the tally so far (Beam Rifle and now Water Blast) over Rad Armor, which honestly, just seems popular but nothing else beside that to bring it up.
Rad armor may not excite you, but it sure as heck does excite me. The only thing about water blast that excites me is seeing others use it in the game. We each have our personal little things that we love. Me, I only play melee toons, so of course I am going to be more excited by something for melee toons being chosen. -
Quote:To be honest, I think our current powers team is just straight up better. I am not down on Castle, I think he was just burnt out from having to work the game through some rough transitions. Geko I think was an idiot, and his idea of game design baffles me.When Radiation Armor was first proposed, many many years ago, the idea was it would make extensive use of debuff auras - like the Radiation Emission toggle debuffs, but coming from the body of the Tanker. Thus, it would be functionally different to anything currently available.
Now, Castle pretty much shot it down, with some good reasons:
* The way debuffs scale is quite different to res or def.
* Weakness against ranged enemies
* Stepping on Defenders toes
However, it looks like the developers are now looking again at debuff defensive sets, which would but Radiation Armor back on the table. Obviously a debuff based defensive set could easily be broken, and would need extensive testing...
The current team in general is different in a huge way, which I will explain my view on. The old team was very stuck on what the game could not do. The new team is more focused on what they can make the game do. Because of this difference, and the influx of money, we are seeing a better CoX than we have seen in years. It is a game I feel now has a chance of reaching the potential it always had. Around issue 4 (pvp) I got bored with the game, but kept my sub up any way. My best friend asked me why, my response was the potential that I saw, and I couldn't wait to see what they would do next. -
I just really do not enjoy any of the red side content. Now, if I had the option to kill off the contact in the end like in some of the GR arcs, then I would be all about it. I would play 1-50 there again just for the chance to kill Phipps.

Quote:I was on ustream from start to finish, and I was green with envy of those who were actually there. Yeah, I am a geek!I think pretty much -everyone- who plays this game is a geek to a certain degree. The point is the player who would spend and entire day/weekend at a Pummit is at the very least a "special" kind of geek who's probably a bit more "out there" than even the normal type of geek.
For better or worse we usually tend to be "at the mercy" of that kind of player where these things are concerned. -
Quote:See, I was much more excited by Rad armor than anyting else presented. I also realized that Rad Armor would end up being 2 new sets for Melee AT, because Rad Melee would be quick to follow. It was clear that the gears were turning for Synapse on Rad Melee while he was discussing Rad Armor.Well, you have to remember the forums aren't the only avenue to speak about the game or even are the majority when it comes to thoughts or ideas.
But it does leave me scratching my head about Radiation Armor. Yeah, I'm sure it's a hot topic of a lot of threads on the forums, but you can already make a radiation armor character in the game: Dark Armor colored something other than dark and Radiation Emissions on Defender, Controller or Corruptor. IMO, asking for Rad armor is like asking for melee weapon sets on Defender/Controller to fit the theme of a melee Rad character...or asking for Storm Armor because apparently Storm Summoning isn't 'armory' enough on those other ATs.
Feels like the playerbase is squandering what little opportunity we have...or maybe that the devs should actually use that avenue of player feedback to make future sets to avoid conflicts like Bio Armor vs Rad Armor...which I'm sure Bio could fit a Rad theme and if not, Dark.
That said, Thrown Weapons would have been a great set, animation wise, for the ranged ATs. Even if kept simple, there are various ways to throw things: overhand, under, backhand sweep, multiples, arching...a lot of character movement vs push hand out, push two hands out.
The devs also said just because we didn't pick yours for this part of the summit, does not meant it will not get made. So it is possible (even probable) that we will see a thrown weapons set.
That is the great thing about the store. It has allowed for the creation of more power sets than we have seen in the last 3 or 4 years. Yeah, I will buy another $200 in cards if that gets me more cool power sets, that and I like the cards. It is fun to open them.
This last pack had some stuff I have REALLY enjoyed. Costumes, ATIOs, Reward Merits, and Self/ally Rez powers are at the top of the list. My Staff/EA scrapper has ALL of his IOs at +5 and I still have well over 300 enhancement boosters. Face it, the super packs were a good value, and the only real grumble is that that stuff was random. Shoot, I still giggle like a little girl ever time I get a 75 merit and a 100 merit card in the same pack. -
Quote:My comment was also in jest. I ran a LARP of over a hundred players on average per game, and 200+ on the books players. A large portion of them played very evil characters, but were very nice and good people irl. So, I have heard the answer before. As a quick side note, that was Pollyanna Matronic. She was exaggerating to make a point. Having met her at both the summit in November and at this one, I can assure you that she is awesome and one of the nicest and friendliest people you will ever run across. Via Ustream I imagine that her comments may have come across as strange without the full advantage of knowing what other questions she asked or talking to her in person, but "creepy" is about as comically far off from what she's like as you can get.
It is also why I want to do a study and thesis on why good people are so drawn to evil character. I think there is a deeper answer than "It is fun" or "I can't do it in real life." I just find it fascinating. Perhaps because I a Theology and Counseling student in college, and an avid gamer of all sorts of games.
Also the chime on on Bio vs Symbiotic armor. I prefer Symbiotic, but Wet Works was one of my favorite comics in the 90's
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetworks
I also liked the Guyver Anime and the Live action movies. What? I liked the armor fx in the Live Action. -
