  1. If you're focusing on range then I would say skip the melee attacks in Energy (or maybe just take one of them) and use Boost Range and Build Up. Hopping in to do Hail of Bullets shouldn't get you killed if you don't run in first on a team otherwise you can use the rest of your attacks at range.

Are you looking for a sample build btw?

    New Blaster

Rad/MM is a good Blaster and as Mr G has said, born to be played in Melee range. Irradiate with the -res proc, Drain Psyche and Psychic Shockwave are all great powers that can cause some good AoE damage. Cosmic Burst is a nice ST attack too.

However, if as you say you slots are limited and you're looking for the best allround Blaster then I would have to suggest Fire/MM as that can simply put out just as good AoE AND better single target damage.

    Rad/Leccy

Just an idea, capped S/L defence, 55% recharge, Assault, Maneuvers and relatively melee orientated ... quite expensive though and by no means a perfect build.

That will hurt your DPS a bit on tough single targets like EBs but it's no big deal unless you plan to run on +4/x1 or something.
Thanks Stryker, that looks good enough for what I plan to be doing and "something from Mental" will probably be Mind Probe as I play like a Blapper most of the time anyway. And thanks for the info on the demons guys, appreciate it.
  5. Still not working for me, any other suggestions? Just stuck on the CoH updater :'(

  7. I wouldn't say either one had better "synergy" with Invuln, but they'll both do fine with it. War Mace has slightly lower recharge attacks in exchange for a little less damage, so it's really preference.

I think you should level up both for a while then pick your favourite or just go with one that you think will be the most fun!
  8. Do you want to be a Blapper, i.e do you enjoy using your melee attacks and like to get close and personal, or would you prefer to stay at range?

No you won't miss ES, it takes too long to animate and will more likely get you into trouble than actually save you with its root time. Skip it and take PR
I figure I should have a decent ST chain with Pistols --> Dual Wield --> PR --> Pistols (very roughly) amidst all my AoE madness, and thanks everyone for assuring me that I'm not *gimping* my build for not taking ES.

Edit: I'm done.. I think we've strayed far enough off topic from poor Tux's original question.
Oh, I enjoyed reading all the comments guys, so no worries and thanks again.

And with regards to farming, even though I wouldn't pick this as my main toon for doing so, I think an S/L capped DP/MM could farm the BM map just fine.
  10. With experience in both, I've always found S/L def to be more useful in general gameplay (and much easier to cap on a Blaster), than ranged but I'd probably account that towards my playstyle.
  11. Right, thanks for the advice, appreciate it.
  12. Okay then, fair enough - I guess what softcap/defence to build for is more preference and playstyle than anything. Yeah I think I might leave Stamina one-slotted aswell, but can't see Flash Freeze having too much use to be honest.
  13. I S/L capped because I'll be running a lot of high end TFs when I'm 50 and I enjoy being a very survivable blaster. I see S/L defence as being good because most melee attacks have some sort of S/L component (generally) and I will be running into Hail of Bullets/Psychic Shockwave quite often I imagine

Not to mention I already have 70% global recharge in the build, which I view as pretty respectable. Thanks for your input though and already all the other replies, I think I will skip it, or maybe Hibernate (I'm interested in how useful people find it concerning PvE)

I'm interested, Warkupo, what would you build your DP/MM Blaster for? (When using IOs)
  14. I can't decide if I will or not after playing the first 33 levels with this Blaster. Will I miss it in the later levels and higher end TFs? Is it a crime to skip it?

  15. Just in light of the BotZ changes, this build is just shy of the cap on AoE defence but everything else should still be sweet. I also added in Dark Oblit and Gloom for some more AoE and ST since you won't really be needing any more +ToHit with Focused Accuracy and it's *another* toggle. Hope you like it.

  16. It'll be end heavy, but everything will be dead after that chain, except bosses if there are any around. What sort of build are you looking for? Invention or single origins? Cheap or expensive?
  17. With my bubble it's Titanium Coating not Red Fortune, and I gain 2.5% Melee defense (and some HP) from that. Have you got a little mixed up with the IOs there? Or is it me getting confused? Sorry if I'm not making sense or I have misread something. A little unsure with what you mean by "With the dark one" aswell.

Thanks for your point on the Regen Tissue proc by the way, much better use of that slot.
  18. I'm having trouble getting the defence numbers I want, while retaining the powers that my friend would like. I would like to hit at least 32.5% Melee def, and I wouldn't mind sacrificing some recharge for it. Anyone got any ideas? I need 7% more :/

  19. Yeah I totally agree Stormy, and if all positions are at 32.5% then one purple will softcap which is always good for the sticky situations.
  20. I take your point PC_Guy, thanks for the input

I like the build btw Stormy, looks solid defence wise.
  21. Cheers Stormy, well looking at the build I have with FoN (basically a slightly changed version of Garent's), with Hasten running I can expect to have it up 2 of every ~6 minutes, so a third of all gameplay (very general), which doesn't seem to shabby consering there's no health crash and only 4 (potentially 5) toggles being run.
  22. I aprreciate your input PC_Guy but since my freind's fender is in the mid-40s, I can't see him remaking the toon. I know DP is lackluster in damage when compared to Sonic Blast but it still should be an enjoyable (and useful) on most speed runs, particualrly as we almost always have a Cold and Rad on the team anyway, so some resistance is always welcome.

Thanks for the build Garent, much appreciated (I like the look of 70% S/L res with Temp Invul), anyone got any other good ideas?

Also toying with the idea of Force of Nature, anyone had any use out of that? There's no health crash so I can't see why it would be too bad (and it would cap everything but Psi)
  23. Hey guys, a friend asked how to make his Sonic/DP more survivable and I said I'd play around with a build for him. The toon will run a lot of speed Imperious, Lady Grey and Statesman Task Forces, aswell as the occasional lower levels ones. I wasn't sure which epic, but he will basically be playing this toon like a Scrapper while throwing out debuffs and shielding the team.

For now, I went with the Dark epic for the stun aura, self rez and Soul Drain for a nice touch of damage combined with Assault. The build has ~65% Res. to S/L which is good, and the recharge isn't too bad either. Has anyone got any other tactics on the basis of making their Defender surivable? And feel free to critique the build I will post that I put together quickly which seems okay but I'm sure has room for imporvement from you good people.

Oh, and I was not sure on how to slot the shields regarding bonuses, and how much I would miss not taking Executioner's Shot.

    Thanks in advance guys,

    Tux.

  24. Thanks Fury Flechette, it's just I can't fit in Fireball if I want to include Aid Self, I do high level TFs quite often too but I think I'd just prefer all the damage and make the hard times a little more interesting
  25. With regards to both Elec/SD and Fire/SD, (Fire/SD in my case currently) would you see Aid Self as necessary?
