I am frustrated that you know nothing of the plight of those that went before you, and could care less about others . To be blunt, you ask for my opinion, but you do not want it - you want others to agree with you. My opinion could not be printed without censorship.
You can call me elitist, but it does not really take that much effort to join this 'club'. Nor am I necessarily 'proud' of the fact that I can in fact, form coherent sentences. I believe you have shot yourself in the foot and are now whining that your foot hurts.
If you care about your own work, you should take pride in it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Shouldn't that be "couldn't care less" or, at least, "could not care less"?
[/ QUOTE ]
He might mean it exactly the way he sounds. It's not an incorrect statement, merely an imprecise one that probably doesn't mean what it says. So you can safely say it "could" be that, or he might have meant that, but can you really say it "should" be that?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not knowing his intent with the afterthought was part of the reason that I posed it as a question. It's hard to figure out exactly who "could care less" in that context. But, the problem that I have with it is the "could care less" phrase, itself. The phrase, as it's posted, means that someone could care less, or, they might not care less. It's completely ambiguous. When you "couldn't care less" (or 'could not', without the contraction), then it means that you don't care at all. That was my point, which was totally sarcastic since he/she was being so 'proper' in the rest of the post. -

I know that I'm new here on the boards, but here goes with my $.02, FWIW.
This video review idea is a great one! I really hope you will continue to do it. One of the biggest problems that I saw in the video was the fact that you were jumping around, willy nilly, instead of taking your time to really search the whole map. If you were just doing it for yourself and that's how you like to play a mission, then that's all well and good. But, since your aim is to do a review and have other people view it, it makes it very chaotic trying to keep track of what is going on and what direction I'm looking while I'm watching you bounce around all over the place.
Perhaps, trying to stay on the floor and run around in a basic search pattern might be much more helpful to you in finding things, and for the people that are watching you search. I think you might have been trying to run through it too quickly. As people have already said, editing out some of the searching might be a good idea, too. That way, the length of the mission video won't turn into an hour+ if it's a long arc.
The other thing that I noticed was that you're either a speed reader, or you didn't read the entire text from the contact. It was rather long. There might have been a hint there that you should be looking for 'files'. I didn't notice if there was nav text that indicated that, either. I couldn't really read the text because of the quality of the video, but that can't be helped, unless it was because your video settings were very low.
I think the nav text is an important tool that needs to be used by anyone creating a mission that has glowies. It helps the player to understand exactly what they're looking for and what needs to be completed. If there wasn't any nav text, then I don't blame you for being frustrated in trying to find the objective of the mission. It also helps if that text is a color that stands out so it's easily seen.
Overall, I think this whole idea is excellent, and with a little more tweaking could be very helpful for people looking for a good mission to play. Maybe you were just nervous because it was your first attempt at doing it. I have had my share of encounters with stage fright to know that it can have some very negative effects on performance. Hopefully, you won't be as nervous the next time around. -

Shameful bump.
I have made a few changes over the past few days, mostly in the map choices. I would still love to see some feedback. I'm working on a new arc with another custom group (with a slight twist) that I might decide to tie to this one in the storyline. Stay tuned. -

*sigh*
why are you ignoring me? Are my missions not good enough?
[/ QUOTE ]
I think the way the thread works is that you quote the appropriate list and put yours into it at the bottom of the appropriate category, using the same syntax as the other missions in the list. Then, remove the

tags, so it doesn't look like a quoted post.
That's how I did mine because it seems to be what everyone else has been doing. Just make sure your mission is added in the proper section according to what the mission is about. -

Well, it looks like I might have created arcs that could be 'seen' by others looking at the MA list as farms, if the criteria above is any indication. I've made 3 arcs, 2 of which are single missions. I have also created my own custom enemy group, including bosses. One of my missions is a single mission 'teaser' intro to the new custom enemy. The other single is a simple story using the CoT. Since I tend to use as much of the description space available to describe the setup for the arc, I would not want to waste that little space to add 'tags', either.
It's been very hard to get my stories played because of all the players out there that seem to only be looking for farms. Now, I realize that they might also be ignored because of the content that I worked so hard to add. It is very discouraging to find that I seem to be in a no-win situation. I've worked really hard to try and create interesting characters and stories (I hope) that have fallen into a black hole of thousands of other author's works. I agree, there is a lot of absolute crap out there, but there are also many gems that could be very popular if only they could be found amidst all the rest that are available.
I also have to say that not everyone farms. I have never been to the sewers or on any other of the typical PL missions (at least not that I know of). Since I have a problem with my client crashing in teams, most of the time I stick to street fighting or running radio missions solo. My various chars are mostly tanks for that reason. I probably wouldn't farm, even if I could. Somehow, getting to lvl 50 in a matter of hours or days seems like a good way to end up with a char that has all the power in the world, but in the end, I probably wouldn't know what to do with it. I prefer to take my time and get to know what my chars can handle and what they can't. It's much more fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oi..here we go again.
One. Noit everyone finds your playstyle more fun, so just because that method is more fun to you does not make it categorically more fun.
And two, farmers wouldn't be playing your map anyhow if they couldn;t farm. Advertise your arc exhaustively if you want it played. :P
[/ QUOTE ]I never said that everyone would find my playing style 'more fun', I said it was more fun for me. I also said that it would seem that many people that are searching for non-farming arcs might tend to overlook mine based on the criteria that other people have expressed in this thread. I have no doubt that farmers wouldn't enjoy it, because it's not meant to be farmed. I really have no idea what exactly constitutes a 'farmer friendly' mission, so if mine accidentally fall into that category, then it certainly wasn't intentional on my part. All I really care about is making fun missions that other people can enjoy. -

I am glad when someone points out a spelling error in my arc, I thank them for it. I'll edit it as many times as necessary to get it right.
If there are only a few minor errors in an arc I won't down rate it, obviously the person took the time to work on it and just overlooked something. No big deal.
On the other hand, if it looks like a 10 year old wrote it without a spell check (even if one did) I will. Daddy should help him use spell check. When someone publishes, they are saying "This is ready to be played and is good." If it isn't, regardless of the reason, it should be rated accordingly. The MA is there for players to publish... and for other players to find arcs they like. The ratings are a reference, not a feel good "everyone passes" system.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. I want people to let me know if I have a typo in my arc, especially if it's in the descriptions, contact dialogue or clues. If it's in character dialogue, then it might be slang usage, etc., that's meant to sound like conversation. If there's an actual misspelling/grammatical error, even in dialogue, I would still rather have someone tell me about it so I can fix it if it's a real oops.
If I only find a few mistakes in an arc, I won't let it affect my rating, as long as the mission is good otherwise. If absolutely all of it is written poorly, then I will probably mark it down a star, but I will also send feedback to let them know why so they can clean it up. If they really don't care enough to bother, then I won't feel badly about giving it a lower rating for it. -

I've seen only one good idea in this entire thread that can't be gamed and would make the star rating system relevant.
[/ QUOTE ]
The star system could be made a little more relevant, but it would need an entire overhaul to do it. Just increasing the number of stars used as a base could help immensely. But, there still needs to be more to rating an arc than just assigning stars. If people are willing to put their playing time into running an arc, they shouldn't complain about taking a few more minutes to give more in depth feedback for establishing the basis of that rating. And, it doesn't have to be done with names attached. It could be kept anonymous.
I still think there should be a series of multiple choice criteria set for ratings that could be searched. Maybe make it so that if you weren't willing to do all that to rate an arc, then you wouldn't be able to give a rating at all, or it would only be counted as a partial rating. If you wanted to skip all the detail, then give it a 10 star rating would be reduced perhaps to 5 stars. And, if you only wanted to give it 1 or 0, then that would be another 5. That would at least give the people more incentive to provide the rest of the feedback. If they want to give their friends an automatic 10 stars, they could only give it a median number without the rest of the info.
This whole situation just makes me want to say this to the devs, "It is broken. Can you make it go?" -

I have to agree with most of the folks that have posted above me, the rating system is definitely flawed. Having a simple 5 star system does not cover all of the possible reasons for high or low ratings. There needs to be a better way of submitting ratings. I liked the idea mentioned about having different categories to select a rating for, that would separate the reasoning behind them.
Something like this with a 1-5 or 1-10 star for each, or a choice for certain categories:
Was it a fun story arc? (y/n)
Rate the overall difficulty of the arc. (1-10?)
Rate the difficulty of the Boss(es). (1-10?)
Did you complete it? (y/n) If no, why not? (choices to rate for difficulty/errors/boredom, etc?)
Was the arc played by a solo char? Team? (y/n)
Type/level of char rating it? Rank? (by player choices or generated by the system to keep it honest)
Rate the story: Was it interesting? Were there typographical/grammatical errors? Was the contact info, mission sendoff, Nav text, etc., helpful/understandable? (y/n or 1-10)
Rate custom characters look/difficulty/appropriateness to the story. (1-10?)
All of the above could be used as criteria to be averaged for ratings that could be searchable in the MA list, and offer people looking for certain types of arcs to see what positive points or problems may exist in the arc. I realize it's a lot of info, but it would give people more ways to rate it than just a pure thumbs up or down, also more detailed and harder to 'fudge'. There could also be a general star rating that could be given to the arc as a whole. Maybe a 10 star that would have more wiggle room.
I would also like to see feedback made anonymous by the player's choice. Sometimes, even though we intend to provide feedback to be a means for suggesting improvements, they may not always be seen that way by the author. This would eliminate the chances of an author being vindictive and retaliating for what they perceive as an 'unfair' rating.
I know I'm a relative n00b on the boards, but this is just my $.02. FWIW -
I'm not sure if using the CoT really qualifies for your specifications. This is the only arc that I have that is magic based so I figured I'd throw it out there, just in case you might be interested. My aim with arcs is to create a story, not a 'killer mission' that tries to kill your chars. There are no surprise EB/AVs or anything like that. My other arcs don't seem to be a fit for any of your specs, so this one will have to suffice. I hope you'll give it a try and if you like it, maybe you'll try my others with the custom enemy group that I created.
Arc offered to which character?: Silent Spy (possibly) or Extrasensory
Arc Name: Deal with the Devil's Pawn
Arc ID: 113615
Faction: Circle of Thorns
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Alari Azure/Telstar
Level Range: 5-54
Soloable?: Most of my toons are magic tanks/dual blade set on 'heroic' and they can solo. I'm not sure how that translates to your char types since I have to solo and usually stick to tanks. I have also done this on my katana/scrapper without too much trouble. Insps may help other types.
Length: 1 mission-medium map
Difficulty Level: I tried not to make any of my arcs over the top hard, so the boss actually shows as a lieutenant to my toons.
Synopsis: The Devil's Pawn is a CoT mage that has stolen a little known ancient scroll (Lucifer's Scroll) that contains a spell that would cause people to be possessed by Lucifer himself. He plans on using it on the people of Paragon City in order to take it over. You must recover the scroll and defeat the Devil's Pawn before he can translate that scroll.
Estimated Time to Play: 1/2 hour, tops, depending on solo/group -
Apparently, I messed up my custom missions because I made some changes to the base group setup the other day. They should be all set, now. I also made some map changes and fixed a typo. Please, let me know if there are any more problems.
So far, the CoT mission has a 5 star rating (it would have more views, but I made a mistake and accidentally unpublished it when I tried to edit it a while back) and the custom group missions have 4 stars ea. Not all reviewers were friends, either. -
I have 3 published ARCs that I would appreciate you trying out. I've worked hard at creating stories/missions that people would enjoy playing. The first one features the Circle of Thorns and the other 2 feature a custom enemy group. I hope you will try them all. Any and all feedback is welcome and will be much appreciated. If I can improve on any of them, please, don't hesitate to let me know about it. If you find any errors, I would especially appreciate your telling me about them, too. I've run them on several of my toons and all are solo friendly. I would really like some feedback on the custom enemy group, if you would be so kind.
You can send me a message in game or post it here, in this thread. My main focus is to create missions that are fun for all to play.

Arc Name: Meet the Demon Spawn
Are you ready to accept a challenge from Paragon City's newest gang of thugs and their leader, Slash DeMento? Hang on to your hat and be ready for a wild ride. These guys are new in town and they want to make a big impression. The bad kind! (There are no EB/AVs so it can be soloed without too much difficulty, but there are a few enemies that can be a little tough. None are extremely hard, though.)
Arc ID: 151099
Faction: Heroic
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Alari Azure
Difficulty Level: 1-54
Synopsis:
Mission 1: Word on the street is that the Demon Spawn have stolen some weapons and bombs from the Paragon City Armory. They've been getting bolder since their leader, Slash DeMento, gave Frostfire a beating and left with half of the Outcasts following him. We need you to recover those items before they can harm innocent people. Will you help? (This one is similar to the single mission above with this custom enemy group, but with a little different twist. No Boss in this one and the Bombs are a collection rather than destructable.)
Mission 2: I'm afraid the Demon Spawn haven't been deterred in their big plans. This time they've kidnapped Professor David Bradford. He's been working on a new weapon system for the military. They've stolen the files, with all of his research, to put it together. You need to get in, rescue the Professor and recover his stolen files.
Mission 3: The Demon Spawn are at it, again. This time they've kidnapped several members of the Research & Developement team at Benson Robotics, Scientist Susan Wu and 3 Robotics Technicians. They've also stolen some robotic parts and the laptop computers needed to build a new prototype. It seems that their plans are getting bigger all the time. You need to rescue that Benson R&D team and recover all of their stolen materials.
Mission 4: Apparently, Slash DeMento has issued a challenge to you, personally. He didn't like the time his brother had to spend in the Zig, or the beating you gave him, after your last meeting. This time he's taken your friend, Glenn Breck, as a hostage. He's threatening to sell him to the highest bidder. You know he has some enemies that would like to see him go away, forever. You need to defeat Slash DeMento and rescue Glenn Breck.
~
The first mission does not have a Boss, all the rest have a Boss, collections, ambushes, patrols, and rescues. It's a story arc that ends with the main character, Slash DeMento, challenging you to rescue your friend, a famous Paragon City radio/TV personality.
Estimated Time to Play: 10-20 minutes for each mission, depending on your group and whether or not you defeat all enemies.

Enjoy! Please, rate them and send feedback, especially if you gave a low rating. Thanks! -
I'm glad I'm not the only one that was seeing the flashing multiples of the dayjob icons. There seemed to be no rhyme nor reason to them popping up. I logged into City Hall and was just standing there chatting, and they came and went, willy nilly. O.o
