If going to a single elimination format of 1v4 and 2v3, the best of 5 would be cool. I don't speak for my team in any way, but I'd like to suggest that the higher seed gets map pick for the majority of the matches- either 2-2-1 format or straight alternating.
I think that will give incentive for teams to finish the season strong while rewarding consistent excellence. Think of it almost like a 'home field advantage'.
That's just my suggestion, whether it matters or not. -
What are your global handles/recognizable names?
@Lord Seethe
What server do you primarily play on?
Triumph or Virtue
What server do you prmarily PvP on?
Freedom, I guess. Only really tried leagues.
What toons do you have to offer for 8v8 PvP?
psy/em blaster. I have other toons, but not really sure which may be best.
Which of these toons is on Freedom?
psy/em, but will transfer whatever.
If any, what toons would you be willing to transfer to Freedom for a league?
I would consider transferring most- up to a point. I'm not going to transfer more than 5.
What do you consider your primary/optimal role in a team setting?
Only played damage thus far. Willing to learn other roles, though.
What do you consider your favorite role in a team setting?
Damage- all I've played. Disruption could be fun, though.
Would you be willing to make a new toon and level it to 50?
Yes, but it depends on my work schedule.
Would you be willing to respec into a new build for a league?
Of course.
Briefly describe your experience in PvP. (If you were on other 8v8 teams list them here, any substantial experience here also)
I'm the love child of Klesk and Spiner. In all seriousness, I was D6 on U2BG who filled in on occasion and tried not to screw up too badly. I played with BKOM and later OPUS.
(OPTIONAL) (Only answer if you have a firm grasp of team rosters)
Name Captains you would prefer to play for, minimum of 3.
I know it's a total cop out to just name one, but I'm going to. I'm really only interested in playing for Vinnie, Silit, and the gang. They are really the only ones I know, so I guess that would be the main motivator for me even re-subscribing.
But, rules are rules and they may have other people in mind... so we'll see what happens. -
Quote:As fine as a cause that sounds like, it's not a reason that inspires us to practice. Showing up to practice became a grind to us. We had fun practicing when we were there and in matches, but the motivation wasn't there from many of us.Oh I don't know, try to keep the community alive, which how can we do that if very few teams are in the ladder, the less teams there, the less interest there is in anyone else getting a team together to join up.
It's a chicken and the egg predicament. If we practiced more, we'd be more visible and might draw more interest. If there were more team variety where we didn't have to schedule set days/times with teams like yours and just showed up (like pre-I13) and grabbed one of the 5 or 6 other teams on Test, we'd probably be more energized to practice/play.
You may have a point, but it's not something that motivates us to say 'hey, let's show up and practice' on a Wednesday night. You should show up on Test because you want to be there and have fun- not because you're scheduled to be there according to your locked in weekly practice contract.
Quote:Oh well, I know TLDR, sorry about the Psypunk length post.
We had fun when we played. But, we just became extremely apathetic over the forced routines of a 3 team ladder. When we talked about it, we really didn't see any signs of the community getting even remotely close to a 5 or 6 team ladder.
That's more or less what we were feeling about things after our cancelled official with dUmb. -
Empathy Auras- I hate the one where you have to throw your arms up- am I doing the wave or dropping an aura?
Total Focus- maybe a way so that you don't have to jump?
Zapp- It's just rather blah to me. -

Quote:Depending on how you implement that, that's fine. In reality, a PvE trial or TF shouldn't be tied to PvP. Likewise, nobody should be forced to complete a PvE trial in order to enjoy PvP.Previously the Cathedral of Pain was used to acquire Items of Power which were instrumental in Base Raiding. The initial implementation of the CoP was exploitable and ultimately removed. We have always wanted to revisit the CoP and return it to something players could participate in, and with Issue 18 we will be doing just that.
If you want to bring this back as a purely PvE experience, that is fine. Posting it in the PvP section is virtually a slap in the face to people you have alienated non-stop since I13 (and most likely before, but I13 was the worst).
Once again, Ghost Falcon, you Devs show your ignorance over who gravitates to which content. The majority of people who post in this section are arena and zone enthusiasts. These people may take part in base raids too, but many of the raids back in the day were by active PvE enthusiasts that were obsessed with:
1. SG Recruiting
2. Badging/base building
3. Accumulating massive amounts of prestige (for #1 and #2)
Honestly, the base raids geared more to the 'casual' PvPer that you guys were so fired up to appease with the collective brain fart that you call Issue 13. In essence, you probably killed off more 'casual' PvPers by eliminating an environment where a katana/inv scrapper and a force field defender could flourish.
It was much easier talking a PvE friend into a base raiding environment than it was to talk them into Friday Night Fights on Triumph by a PvPEC rep or trying to get them to join an RV scrum and getting AS'd by an opponent that they cannot detect or understand how to negate.
Quote:Base Raiding is currently on hold and not being actively worked on. We understand that this may disappoint some of you in the PvP community, but we wanted to tell it to you straight to minimize any confusion or false hope that Base Raiding would be addressed in this new iteration of the Cathedral of Pain.
Thanks,
Ghost Falcon
Admitting a mistake is not a sign of weakness. It's a sign of strength. It allows people here to realize that they have a voice and that their opinions as customers matter. And, it's posts like yours that continue validate and perpetuate the beliefs that you do not value the PvP segment as customers and are essentially daring us to get fed up and walk away.
So, this is why you get backlash every time you venture into a PvP thread. You feel alienated and ostracized every time a red name feels compelled to post. It's the same feeling we feel every time we submit a public post or a long PM asking for certain things to be changed to make our PvP more enjoyable and make it so that we can have more variety.
Everyone mocks us for finding the most viable archtype/power combinations to achieve a desired PvP level. Most of us want other ATs to join the fray because almost all of us have toons that we enjoyed playing that are not PvP viable. Ask any PvPer about the toons they've enjoyed, and you'll probably get stories of a fire/fire tank, spines/DA scrapper, an ice/storm controller, or a dark/dark defender.
Maybe we'd cut you some slack if you'd make an active attempt to listen to us and help give us reasons to stay customers of yours. And, maybe we'd send the word to our friends that this CoH game has the best PvP (fat chance, but one could dream) of any MMO and we'd all refer them.
This will probably fall on deaf ears like most of what we have to say.
Try working with us sometime, Ghost Falcon, and maybe we'd bend over backwards to try to get you a better PvP system instead of just lashing out in anger at you. -

But, is it live from his Pockets of D performance?

Quote:I'm not opposed to a Test Ladder, here are some issues:
i) The PvP Community doesn't have the 'free pass' it used to around Issues 9-11. Getting teams on test during Betas could prove problematic, especially if half the team gets in and the others don't.
ii)Unexpected Test downtime: Anyone remember when a top-level match was supposed to happen on a Thursday (iirc) and Test was taken down for "emergency maintenance"?
That's why you use Freedom as a back up as Jimmay/Miss/Whoever is B_Witched suggested.
Test is great for:
1. No limit builds. This is especially good for any D6ers migrating over to a Ladder and being able to learn other roles. As such, players get to experience diversity.
2. Better performance. Freedom can be nightmarish with server lag.
3. All toons on all servers are in play. My main server is Triumph and most of my PvE friends are on Triumph. While I'm sure a PvP team would take the time to help level and accolade, it's often easier for me just to get on with people who are already running TFs or running AV missions.
I agree with Vinnie. I think the pros of Test outweigh the cons. And, you (and others) are 100% right on the cons. I just think the pros more than make up for it.
Just my 2 cents. But, I defer those with greater PvP/arena/Ladder knowledge, as always. -
Quote:A truer paragraph has never been posted.I've found that I'm much more content if I do the following when considering a logical thought regarding PvP: Think, "Can this somehow benefit the PvP community?" If the answer is "yes" then it's safe to say that it's not going to happen, will cease happening, or will be changed in a negative way.

Quote:Well, according to the latest patch notes, the green mitos aren't supposed to be able to use Healing Aura while held any more, but I didn't see anything mentioned about an out-of-control regen rate. That being said, it's possible that it wasn't regen that was the issue if the mitos were still spamming Healing Aura while held. I also haven't seen any specific statement regarding green mito regen rates not having been changed.
It's also worth noting that the green mitos have 50 points of hold protection now. (source)
This change almost makes me want to attend a Raid as a debuffer... -
Not that I particularly care about these raids, since I loathe them. I'm thinking that you could potentially bring them down if you focus multiple enervating fields on a green mito and super-buffing fortunatas and mind control dominators to hold spike spamming dominate while cycling through their highest single target damage attacks.
If you are truly coordinated, you could have the main mass leader call for Lingering Radiation (and heat loss, benumb, and any other goody available) as soon as the FF drops, thus not worrying about the obscene regen rates.
From the few Raids I have attended from time to time, I have yet to see tactical coordination of stacking debuffs. And, perhaps that's due to yellow sweeps being the most time intensive and the part requiring the most coordination for success.
Just a thought I'd offer up... -
Quote:You guys play 8v8 now on the D8 sides. From the scores the top two teams are U2BG and SMD (looks like anyhow). Out of curiosity what have those two teams brought against each other as far as lineups?
rpvp.guildportal.com has Silit and Vinnie's eloquent summaries of D8 matches. You can see who ran what there. -
Quote:What's the problem with this? Why can't I bide my time and learn from practice? I've learned a lot from Silit, Klesk, Vinnie, Hoj and March. I'm not nearly good enough to replace any of them, but that's ok. I'm happy enough to practice and learn how to play up to their level. If you limit the regulars to even 10, there's a good chance that people on the bench will have to play at least spot duty. So, more then likely history will repeat itself like it always does and those new d6rs will make for great new d8 bench warmers in most cases.
Quote:But again, if there is no guideline to have to play new people, then I foresee frustration when game day comes around and the old clique people get to play and the new one has to sit out.
I may not be a good player, but I try to show up to practice and do my best. And, I'm there for D8 if they ever need someone to fill. I may suck, but I can lock on most targets and at least have a little bit of a clue on evading. And, I'm cool with that. I have fun practicing and get better each time I get regular practices.
I'd definitely love to keep learning from my team- even if that meant that I wouldn't see a single official. Maybe I'm in the minority with that, but I'm sure there are some people playing D6 right now that feel the way I do.
I'd definitely love to join a 8v8 ladder team, even if it means being a practice only player. -
WTF? There was a Gladiator ladder?
-
This is a great point and any future discussions on a potential season two should be centered around this.

Quote:They played the same thing against U2BG. And, Kat admitted as much- they were playing for a tie. And, despite whatever adjective you want to describe it- it's perfectly legal. If you don't think that you can beat the other team, why not play for the tie and get the extra points? So what you are saying is by bringing a line up with tanks and 3 emps you were playing to win and the goal of that line up wasn't to score a tie? I mean seriously, I don't mean to don the tin foil cap or anything, but you can't honestly tell me that playing to tie is a legitimate strategy, I know that Kat is a bad leader, but did she really con you into believing that??
It may not be how you or I would play it, but I can certainly see the train of thought behind it.
