ALOHA Liberty

There was a pc game called Freedom Force, it was lots of fun to play, me and my son who was 10 then were looking for a new game to play. A RP convention friend told me about a game that he had been beta testing and they were looking for more as they had done yet another revision / overhaul of the game. So I checked it out and was accepted into Beta testing of a game which we would call City of Heroes.

This was my first MMO, not that I knew what a MMO was initally. I was told it was like a game called Everquest that several of my friend played and I though they were insane. This was the first real superhero MMO and I fell in love with it as soon as I started playing my first tank.

I have played tanks (Liberty is home) mostly on every server for the last 8+years. I do have a few other AT's but to this day the tank is still my favorite. It has always been my pleasure to tank for anyone who needed and wanted me to tank. I have 12 security lvl 50 incarnates the rest of my characters run the gambit from 1 to 45 I don't think there is a server that doesn't have at least two mid range tanks.

A second version of the game I decided to try and liked brought me my best friend in game. It also allowed me to make even more friends, the City of Hero Forums specifically the RP threads where I had the most amazing time. Not only reading the work of others but to actually write, my own story, interactive stories and RP with fellow writers. Regardless of the arguments we had ((OOC) I enjoyed it. I want to thank you all my fellow writers, storytellers and roleplayers.

I have had the privilage of meeting , playing and becoming friends with some amazing players. There are far too many to list, but I will speak to some in a moment. Apparently through that I was given the opportunity to represent Liberty as a server rep, senior server rep, 2nd chair and 1st chair of P.E.R.C. (Player Event Resource Commitee) Where I further was able to assit my fellow gamers in running and hosting events. To this day we still have regularly MSR events on Sunday nights. A big thank you to all our Liberty MSR leaders and raiders and anyone else who has hosted any type of event you all helped make this game great and a great community.

My friends there are so many of you and not just here on Liberty but on all the other servers. To make it easier on myself because I don't have everyone listed on all my friends list I am only going to mention one in depth.

Our friendship is the stuff of comic books and could be something from legends it started off rocky in the forums and even in game. It developed into a character created on Liberty,(then many characters) nearly stealing her full time play to Liberty, okay I did steal her full time play . Our community welcomed her with open arms and brought her into Liberty's folds as one of us.

Steele Magnolia joined me here as one of the greatest members of our sg, the 'Sentinel of Liberty' from recruiting to base building to writing in the forums then joining P.E.R.C. as a rep, senior rep and P.E.R.C secretary. Helping me in all things COH. I have often wondered the what if's of our friendship, it has surivived many 'trials', i-trials Task Forces and many other events. Our friendship helped me be the hero I always wanted to be and could be in this City, this City of Heroes.

I do not know what the future holds for all of us my friends. Weather it is just keeping in touch on Facebook, meeting up in another MMO or seeing you all at Real Life conventions like Gen Con, Origns, or DragonCon. This community, this city of heroes will always exist in our hearts. The challange will be to let it shine, share your heroic heart with the world and weather you decide to become a Real World Hero or just 'Ordinary Joe's" I ask you all remember me fondly and well. Also...

ALOHA to my Liberty friends and family truly in all it's meaning.

I will be around until 11/30/12 23:59:59

Aloha, American Valor! A wonderful post.

I really enjoyed teaming up with you on your themed ITF runs (I prize my Cowboy ITF screenshots!) and chatting with you online about the game and about more than that. I'd like to think that we'll meet up again in another game sometime.

Aloha, Val! Aloha, Steele! and Aloha Liberty and COH!

Best,

Doc Hornet

As I can be rather long winded, I shall show my appreciation for you by keeping this short and simple - it has always been a pleasure to game with you, Valor, and I will remember you and Steele both fondly. Hope to meet you both reality-side some time.

PS Freedom Force was great, I kinda miss it but CoH was WAY better.

Even against certain death, it matters not how or if we fight, only that we do.

Most amusing complement I've ever been paid on an outfit, from @Ukase regarding my Blue Eyed She-Devil Anson Maddocs "Fallen Angel" homage:

July 4th weekend of 2004 my husband and a couple of friends tried a new game. I wasn't very interested at the time as they didn't tell me much about it and I was happily playing Everquest.

Wait, back up about 20 years or so.

I discovered comic books at garage sales when I was 12 or 13 living in base housing in the Netherlands. I was a voracious reader, an introvert, and starving for escapsim. The base library only went so far. my eyes were opened. From then on I spent every penny on comic books. Mowing lawns, babysitting, house cleaning, eventually from a part time job at an amusement park. You can see how this game was tailor made for me.

Well, on July 17th my husband showed me the costume creator. I just had to try the game. I loved it. The day I learned to fly was the day I never again logged onto Everquest. We were the Quixotic League on Pinnacle: Captain Kinetix (my husband), Steele Magnolia, Black Horse, Ms Kitty, and Der Richtor.

In November of 2004 I discovered forums. I had never imagined that there were such a thing as game forums, or RP forums, and I kind of went crazy spending a few hours a day writing. I met American Valor on the Whitmoore Apartments RP forum. Things moved along and soon the character of Sgt Pandora entered the forums.

Then there was a falling out on Pinnacle and American Valor invited me to try Liberty. American Valor and Sgt Pandora became partners, not just a member of his SG Sentinels of Liberty, but coleader. A friendship of comic book legend, as Valor says, was born.

The community welcomed me with open arms. Imagine that. I'd never heard of a game community before and I couldn't resist your wacky, channel drama charm. Liberty became home. My server became Liberty. I could write for hours and never finish, nearly 200 of you are on my global friends list.

I have never regretted it.. Not even when I was having a spat or being bitchy, not when Valor and I had our epic misunderstandings and didn't speak for days or weeks at a time, not a single time my husband would look across the computer room at me merrily heroing on Liberty while he was on Pinnacle. Almost eight years later and that's still the same. In time I did play on Pinnacle again but Liberty is my home. My SG is Sentinels of Liberty. And I am proud to call you my friends.
My mother wept when I told her about the shut down.

ALOHA, Liberty. Your memories will be with me the rest of my days. I hope I see you again.

ALOHA, American Valor. Your friendship is one of the things I cherish most in my life along with my husband and my family.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

AV...

Thanks for the great words... I too had planned to write what I feel, but rather left most the words in my head and in my heart...

Take great care and see you around...

AV you've been a great friend, a great teammate and coalition-mate, and an awesome source of information and inspiration. Before the lights go off next week I look forward to one last run for old time's sake.
