Question about flight slotting

My MA/SR scrapper has Fly, Quickness, and Swift, and they were all three-slotted with flight speed enhancements. Just recently, I realised that another character with much less flight-speed slotting was managing to go at the flight speed cap of 58.something mph.

I unslotted all of my MA/SR scrapper's flight speed enhancements, and she goes at the flight speed cap anyway!

As I understand it, Afterburner boosts your flight speed cap. If it's three-slotted with flight speed, what's your new flight speed cap and how much boosting do you need to get to it?

(Would like to know before I do my final ever respec.)

Flight speed (and run speed) was changed when they brought in the higher tier powers so that they were at the soft cap unenhanced, so adding flight speed to flight does nothing (smirk) and it's better to put in other things like end reduction or kb defense. With afterburner the cap is softer so you can increase flight speed to the low 80s if you want but most people put their slots elsewhere.

I generally had 1 end reduction in fly and 1 kb defense or flight speed in ab, so I could have more slots in other things, and I was able to keep up fine.

The flight powers are mostly proc mules now. Hover gets Luck of the Gambler +7.5% recharge. Fly: -KB protection, or the winter's gift slow protection is good. I don't slot fly with endurance, but I don't fight while flying, preferring hover's precision. Hover still benefits with a flight enhancement in Swift.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

Do you have both the [Steam Jump] and [Jump Pack] powers? If so, and assuming you have even a smidgen of recharge enhancement you can maintain perma-Jump Pack (turn on jump pack, then turn on steam jump, when the 30s duration of Jump Pack expires, steam jump turns off instead of jump pack - as long as steam jump recharges in under 30 seconds you can turn it on and start the process over).

If so, then you can hit 87.95MPH with Afterburner with a single level 50 flight enhancement in Fly, leaving afterburner free for a LoTG. I WOULD consider using one or more lvl 50 Flight IOs in Hover, unless you plan on leaving jump pack on in combat (its doable but taxing attention wise).

Thanks for the replies everyone.

So I finally did my last ever respec (well, probably the last). Fly, Swift, and Quickness now just have single Fly Speed enhancements in them. With Afterburner 3-slotted, I go at 86mph or thereabouts. I like flying, and I like flying fast even more.

It meant a few extra slots that I could sprinkle around to other powers, which was a nice bonus.

There is no such thing as a soft cap for Flight Speed soft cap.... There is a cap. The term soft cap only applies to Defense.

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.
I enjoy playing in Mids. I specialize in Melee Characters, other AT's usually bore me.

Since ab can allow you to fly faster than the maximum flight speed the cap is now soft. Please update all the relevant documentation.

The cap is still a cap. Not a soft cap. The cap can be raised, but only with Afterburner.

Soft cap = not really the cap, but adding any more, while increasing your stat, will not effect your character in any real meaning full way. I am sure you are bright enough to understand the difference between a cap and soft cap, Klaw.

...My EA's 52% DDR would disagree with that.

If I still played him. Or the game at all.

At level 50, 3 even level SOs in Afterburner brings the fly speed cap to 86.5 mph. The fly speed cap cannot go above 87.95 even if you manage to enhance Afterburner beyond that point (such as with certain Alpha incarnate abilities or Power Boost type of effects).

That's all I can say without knowing exactly what kind of enhancements you're using in Afterburner and Swift, and whether you have an Alpha power. The Paragonwiki article on travel powers might help.

Don't understand. EA has 52% DDR because it is flagged as 'not effected by enhancements', no some superficially imposed cap.

I was referring to my EA's tendency to go over his soft-cap values.

Going over the soft-cap isn't meaningless when your DDR is only 52%.
