Someone Doesn't Want me to Play CoH
Ouch! We lost our telephone for a couple of days for the same reason a few years back

It's not an ISP issue it's British Telecom. The outage has affected a large proportion of the village that I live in. And we are talking about 1km of cable (~2/3 of a MILE). My ire is not so much with the telephone company that owns the cable and is therefore responsible for the repairs, but the scumbags who stole it in the first place (although I will say I'm not happy about it taking THAT long to replace it - it does seem a little extreme).

One does not simply walk into Eland Cables for 1000 meters of 1000 pair cable, Hyperstrike.
Also, it's about a week away... still kinda long, but then... I'm sure they just have this stuff lyin' about... Right..
I'm going to guess that these idiots get away with this because
1) They weren't seen carting **FREAKING 1000 METERS OF 1000 PAIR CABLE ABOUT**...?
2) They smelt the cable somehow into some sort of pawnable sphere/cube/D12 solid or such, and that is just basic copper, and can't be traced.
Sad, really.
No really. Sad that 1) wasn't possible.
I cannot figure out how that could be... except at night. And... well... Aliens. Yeah.

/Humanity in general is saddening sometimes.
//also havin' a tough time finding, quickly, 1000 pair cable pictures. 100 pair, sure, 250 pair, yeah... no 1000 pair...
///But just imagine this x3.3335, and you got an idea of what that problem is in size and repair funtimes: http://www.computercablestore.com/10...C_PID9739.aspx

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
Whats all the more frustrating is that this happened to me a couple of years ago. Apparently the problem is of such a scale across the UK because of not only the rising price of copper, but also because scrap metal trading isn't licensed so any Tom Dick or Harry can do it. There are various security methods that have been tried but none of these have been terribly successful. As such there are calls to regulate the trade more stringently.

Could be worse, some idiot from the water company decided to put a mechanical digger through my cable in a main road a couple of years back, took them 6 weeks to get that fixed.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba
As if the news of the games demise was bad enough, I've been without an internet connection since last Friday. Current projected time for repair is 27th September.
Reason for the outage? 1,000m of 1,000 pair cable has been stolen from my local exchange. Honestly there are times when I wish I really was a volcano powered bad mood. There would be mondo amounts of SMASH deployed!
