New to SoA - Leaning towards Fortunata
I'm not sure about AV soloing but:
Mind link works fine solo - it's a PBAoE buff, affecting you and any allies who happen to be nearby.
I'm pretty sure I've seen fort builds with melee attacks - there's no reason you can't make a hybrid melee/ranged/control/support/defence build! Also worth noting whereas a Night Widow's Build Up is mutually exclusive with Follow-Up, a Fortunata can take both Aim and Follow-Up. The melee attacks and generally faster animating and harder hitting than the ranged psi attacks, so they would probably be more viable for AV soloing, although a couple of psi attacks would probably be useful for those AVs that are particularly vulnerable to psi.
Foresight's scaling resistance can't be improved with slotting (afaik), it takes resistance enhancements to improve the psi resistance it provides. Combat Training: Defensive (which you have to take anyway) also provides scaling resists and between them I gather it's comparable to the scaling resists Super Reflexes provides - I certainly wouldn't rely on it to stay alive but it's a handy buffer.
As with all VEATs they take a little while to flesh out - I remember having wicked endurance problems with my widow - but with a little love they grow into something special. Have fun

A gloom-dominate-subdue ranged fort (with a nice build) can easily solo AVs. It's probably the lowest single target DPS of the typical VEAT build options but it's more than enough to beat AV regen. One nice thing about it is that it's all psionic and negative damage: good for some AVs, not so good for others, but decidedly different from most other AV soloists. When someone like Marauder hits unstoppable all you can do is grin.
It is a rather tedious AV soloing experience. Sure, you're going to win, but you'll probably be there for a while. Then again, I would say that of AV soloing in general. If you're already an enthusiast you know what you're getting into.
Hi guys,
Although I have yet to dabble in the world of SoA, going through the forums has definitely sparked my interest! I'm leaning towards making a Fortunata and had a couple of quick questions: How does a Fortunata do when it comes to AV soloing? I've typically played melee characters and AV soloing has always been a joy of mine. I would like to do the same with a fort if possible. |
Does mind link work if you are not on a team? |
Going through the forums, I've noticed any/all fortunata builds I've come across no one takes any of the melee attacks. Is that something you just don't do on a fort? I could see wanting to take spin and dart burst for more aoe. |
Foresight - how well does this do in providing resistance when your health drops? And do you slot it for some resist to help? Mids doesn't show how it would scale. Any feedback and/or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!!! |
EDIT: Doh!! Expediter handled most of those questions.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.
Thanks for the feedback. I took a first attempt at making a fort in Mids that had a little bit of both claws and and mental attacks. I never know the best way to post builds for people to review so I included the power selection/slotting and data link. Tell me how good/bad it is and what powers I should have taken and which ones should be left in the dust. I took tough for some extra resistance. Travel power will be ninja run. I was going to go with incarnate rebirth for my heal at lvl 50.
