Back when I played thorns, I would have loved, LOVED the overwhelming force proc in thorn barrage. Fling thorns is the set's best AoE, and I would try and increase its effective area with 1 range SO equivalent if you can. Other than that I would just suggest standard fare slotting for any other dom i.e. crushing impacts, decimation, posi's blasts, etc. to increase your global rech.

I actually didn't even look at doms until I discovered they had Thorny Assault. I always wanted to play a Spines Scrapper. I loved the look and feel but I hated all the issues the set had...so I discovered a Thorns Dom and I haven't been back since! Well until the I24 Spines change

Thorns has insane proc potential (which I love) but it can be even more of a headache when you match it with Proc happy Primaries like Plant/ or Elec/ (making a build for those two sets drove me INSANE). The procs help even out the problems with thorns (long cast time, redraw, ect) but it wasn't enough...
But!
If you consider the new and upcoming PPM changes the damage potential will be bananas!
Heck just Thorn Burst Alone can have more than 6 damage procs thrown in there and at least 2 -Res Debuff Procs! (I think the AH proc works 2-3 times a Minute and the Armag. proc fire 3-4 times per minute!) You add that up with the -Res from new TAOE proc that you can slot in thorntrops and you're golden! I also slot in the KD proc and other dmg procs in trops for mitigation and damage!
It's tough but try to go with as much procs as possible without killing your acc, rchg ect.
