8 year vet rewards?
Basically until the Devs stop beating their heads against the wall we're not going to see this fixed. I've offered them this reasonable alternative (I actually started suggesting the account creation date idea YEARS ago) and I'm -still- waiting for their response to this.

My question is, "Is the system completely broken or do we just not know how and if the code works in the new system?" In other words - is the code still there and being executed, or has it been bypassed/removed?
I was doing some digging since I should have received my 6 Year Vet badge. I'm pretty good at math and noticed something on my Account Page. I may be heading straight out into left field with this, but according to that, my subscription renew date is correct, but my Paid time is wrong.
Without giving away the true details of my subscription or account data, it goes something like this:
Subscription Renewal: December 1, 2012
Paid Time: 7 years, 2 months.
Let's say my true anniversary should have been May 1, 2012. However, if you consider my renewal date is Dec 1 and I have paid 7 years + 2 months, the anniversary date looks like October 1, not May 1. (If 7 years, 2 months is up in December, then 7 years is up in October).
If the system is still operational at all, it appears various earned free months (due to buying certain expansions, etc) are not counted as "paid time" even though they had previously counted toward Vet rewards in the old system. If that's the case, perhaps, like in the example above, I would receive the badge in October instead of May.
So, if I am explaining myself well enough, your anniversary badge may come from comparing your "paid time" to your renewal date and working backwards. Has anyone passed this date yet? I have not.
My question is, "Is the system completely broken or do we just not know how and if the code works in the new system?" In other words - is the code still there and being executed, or has it been bypassed/removed?

A friend of mine talked to Posi at the last Player Summit, and was told that the yearly badge system is completely broken due to the way the NCSoft side of things was changed, and they have no way to fix it on the Paragon Studios end.
Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

Honestly, at this point, I'm ready to say "screw it". Two options.
1) Simplify it
I'd say decouple the vet badges from subscribed time (even though, technically, this is how they're factoring for the veteran character slot awards) and just date them from initial subscription date.
Yeah. This would make 8+ year vets out of a whole bunch of people who haven't paid/played that long.
The long and short of it? So the **** what? The system is already, admittedly, irretrievably broken. Getting a functional, if somewhat less-than-correct badge system going for is better than leaving it totally broken.
2) Remove it.
If it's that broken and they can't fix it, and don't want to do the work to ever get it into some semblance of functionality again YANK THE BADGES. It's not fair to people who SHOULD be earning these badges that some people have them and others don't. Simply because Paragon and NCSoft can't fix their crap.
There's already precedence for them yanking blatantly broken and unfair badges in the past. So this is nothing new.
My question is, "Is the system completely broken or do we just not know how and if the code works in the new system?" In other words - is the code still there and being executed, or has it been bypassed/removed?

The same issue that's preventing us from rewarding the other annual badges introduced with Issue 21 is what would be preventing us from awarding an 8 year badge of similar nature.
At this point, I do not consider the issue as dead and will continue to advocate for the issue to be addressed in some manner in the future, however right now there are other issues which are much higher on the priority list for us to address. FYI: This issue, while seemingly simple, is actually very complicated. It involves not only development time from Paragon but also development time from PlayNC in Austin and potentially support from Seattle. This is not a task that would be easily accomplished and would involve a significant investment of time. This, along with the complexity of how to actually award the badges under the new system (annual badges just *don't work* under the new business model as years subscribed are not tracked in the same manner), are the major roadblocks preventing this from being resolved anytime in the near term. As an additional FYI, additional CS tickets should not be filed regarding this issue. While I do understand that this may be disappointing to some of you, unfortunately no amount of appeals will fast track this project. Thanks and my apologies to have to be the bearer of bad news. |

What is the problem with using the information they obviously have to just continue with certain Veteran badges?
I think the only reasonable solution to this mess is for the Devs to step back and finally give up on worrying about the "subscribed time" concept altogether. Instead they should focus on a player's "account creation" date. That info actually DOES exist for every player and it should be a relatively trivial matter for the game to calculate a "years since account created" value to check for these badges. No convoluted account database gyrations required for that.
Now I'm well aware that using the account creation date is not going to be exactly what the Devs intended for this. It'll allow for "crazy" scenarios like people who created an account 8 years ago will have 8 badges regardless if they've played the game for 10 hours since then or 10,000 hours. But frankly I'm willing to deal with that possibility amongst the playerbase if it means we'll get WORKING annual vet badges out of the deal.
Basically until the Devs stop beating their heads against the wall we're not going to see this fixed. I've offered them this reasonable alternative (I actually started suggesting the account creation date idea YEARS ago) and I'm -still- waiting for their response to this.
