video card recommendations

I am putting together a new desktop system, and I'm trying to select a video card that runs Ultra Mode well. Do any of you technical folks have any recommendations? Or, for that matter, things I ought to avoid? (My previous machine, now about four years old, could run pretty much everything on an NVidia 9800.) Price is not really an object for purposes of this discussion.

You haven't really given us tech folks a lot to go on about the rest of your system. Just make sure your new system has a decent size power supply with a good amount of amps at 12 volts then it doesn't really matter what you get. I'm going to go with the premise that it'll be based on one of Intel's current crop of i5 or i7 CPUs.

From a high end price/performance I favor the GTX 670. 2GB of memory is fine unless you are planning to run at ultra uber resolution (using 3 1920x1080 monitors in a 3240x1920 configuration) with AA on. The 670 is around $100 (20%) cheaper than the 680 and is less than 10% slower.

Joking, but what are the specs of the rest of the build? The standard answer will probably be GTX 670 unless you have some other real need.
