Hello community, quick question...
It's a blind auction. The highest bidder gets the item listed for the lowest price.
Example: say there's 3 of a particular item currently for sale. 1 of them (A) is listed at 4,111,111, 1 of them (B) is listed at 5,000,000, 1 of them (C) is listed at 5,500,000. If someone comes and places a 6M bid, he'll receive A.
There's no way to know what price people have listed their items for, save for guesswork. It's generally safe to assume most items are listed for less than the prices shown in the "last 5 sales" window.
The highest bid is matched up with the lowest asking price usually, so if I were to guess, those folks actually placed their items for lower amounts of Inf... However, this is a double-edged sword: the lower you place your asking price the lower someone can bid and still get it.
So, in essence, patience is a virtue. And, if you can't afford to wait (a pun!) then put in a very low asking price.
I am sure others will stream in here to comment.

One thing to mention: it makes no difference whether you are a hero or villain, or which server you are on. There is now only one market server, and we all share it.

You might want to read Organica's Zero to Awesome Redeux! 31 Day Project. She tells you step by step how she went from nothing to 1.7 billion infl (plus a huge stack of stuff to sell) in a month. Gives a lot of insight into how the market is working these days.

Hi folks,
I was one of the original CoH crowd, played since release, but a new job and a dubious fascination with another MMO kept me away for a 5 years. I've just come back and I'm trying to play the market a bit (something that was still VERY new when I left). I was wondering if someone could explain how bidding and selling work. I crafted a efficacy adapter and listed it at 5mil, since I posted it, 3 have sold for 6mil while mine hasn't sold. How does that work/happen?
