Fire/Fire levelling build; power suggestions?

Anyone have a levelling build for a Fire/Fire Dom. I'm mostly interested in which powers you would recommend as I will be levelling one of these to 50 (or thereabouts) over the Double XP weekend. Won't be throwing in set IO's, aside from any useful drops, so an 'SO' build is what I'm hoping for.

Thanks.

I can't access the game right this second but I got one of those at level 50 - it's a Fire/Fire/Fire even. I can get you its build later this week-end of you want, but I'll admit here and now that I build him with permadom in mind, so there are a couple mule powers and such in the build. He's also almost exclusively built for ranged action. If you're ok with those caveats, I'll post the build tomorrow.

Sure, that'd be great. I guess what I really want to know is are there any bad or skippable powers. A F/F/F build would be great though as that's the plan for epic pool as well.

So for skippable powers in a leveling Fire/Fire I would say Ring of Fire, Smoke, Bonfire and maybe Cinders. Cinders isn't great but it's useful as a backup control. In the secondary, Embrace of fire is nice, but can be skipped if you need other powers, Combustion is not worth taking, Blazing Bolt is skippable. If I24 changes snipes to be useful for Doms, IE something special besides the current planned tohit requirement, then it might be useful. Rest of them can be good depending on what you want. Since Combustion sucks, Fire Breath is your AE, at least until you are up to EPP levels. Then it depends on if you go with Fire or Ice EPPs.

How's Bonfire with the Overwhelming Force proc? I've got a few of those I could use.

It's worth taking in that case, I was just working off the idea of a SO build. With the OF proc, Bonfire becomes a very nice power I hear, though I haven't tried it myself.

My apologies for bailing on you this week-end - I'm in the process of moving, and I admit I completely forgot I promised you a peek at my build. I'll get you some screen caps and such tonight.

Oh and careful with OF in Bonfire - I seem to remember posts stating that it turned out to be so good in it that they were planning to change procs so they'd only tick once every 10 seconds in patches and rain pseudopets, including and especially things like Caltrops and Bonfire. I haven't seen a Redname post on it but I can't say that little tidbit would surprise me. So have a poke around the forums on the subject before you commit to a soon-to-be-nerfed ubercombo.

The change is already in. Per last patch notes:

Enhancements

Overwhelming Force
  • These enhancements now list a minimum level of 10 in their descriptions.
  • Bonfire and Tornado now have their chance to knock per power tick reduced by 60% when Overwhelming Force: Knockback to Knockdown is slotted in the power. This brings the mitigation from these powers on par with Ice Slick or similar powers, while retaining their damage dealing capability.
As to the OP: let me see if I can whip something together, though I don't have mids available now, I could give a list. Any travel preferences, or ranged/melee/control focus?

I play everything like a scrapper, which oddly seems to be helping my Fire/Thermal hardcore corruptor survive, so might as well keep it up. The team we're running this weekend is mostly corruptors and control, with I believe a single stalker for melee, though we may get some more players joining in.

Combat Jumping, Hasten, Super Speed, and as many Leadership toggles (particularly Maneuvers) as possible is what I've been trying for as far as Pool Powers.

And thanks for all the help so far. I've never levelled a dom past about 8 or so, so trying to figure out priorities is something of a challenge.

Set Bonus Totals:
Some notes: this is a 'pure' SO build, but can easily take a few VERY handy inventions, namely luck of the gambler +recharge in any +defense powers. Fire/fire, and especially fire/fire/fire can be a VERY tight build. Fire control has fewer protective powers than most control sets, (though the bonfire with ~KD proc brings that up a bit) so what it has should be well slotted for safety. Add to this that fiery assault has so very many good powers, as does fire mastery, and the powers will always be tight. I kept fire breath in and slotted flares, if you find yourself in melee you may want to drop the slots from flares, and perhaps skip fire breath, especially after fire ball. That said, it's a good follow-up attack to use before diving into a mob.

Your cornerstone powers are flashfire and char. These will be the difference between winning and dying...in most cases your survival will be only as good as flashfire's recharge/duration. The new bonfire should help things, though. Fire cages is pretty much only used for holding foes in place once stunned by flashfire. Also note that fire cages will stop the mitigation bonfire brings, so use it carefully. Char is for hard targets or foes flashfire misses, or making certain a single foe doesn't give you troubles. Many skip cinders, I like it as a panic button.

Blaze is awesome. Use it early and often. I skipped blazing bolt as you'd mentioned you play melee...with the snipe changes, keep an eye on this power. It could be awesome depending how they end up handling insta-snipes and if you team, but again, to your taste decide. Fire ball+combustion are great, and have good overlap. Rain of fire+bonfire or rain of fire+fire cages are also good 'stay put and BURN!' combos.

Also note: fire/fire/fire is THIRSTY for blue. Toggles make this worse, so be careful. Unlike scrappers and such, your best bet to stay living is to stun/hold, stopping attacks rather than taking them. Low hitpoints make dominators, even with decent defense, still die fast. Fire's handy trick is that it kills everything fast enough you don't need to hold things as long.

I'm getting used to end heavy characters, so at least I'm prepared for that bit of drama. This at least gives me some confirmation of what I'd been working on as far as powers. I usually slot as I go, but at least I have some idea where best to put them. Now I've got a few days to put in bids for recipes and salvage for basic IO's and whatever else I can afford that'll help out.

Thanks for the build and the advice Seldom.

Glad to help.

Just to note, Invention sets would help firex3 doms quite a bit, and not just for the whole perma-dom thing. Standard SO's take a lot more slots, so just using a set, even to franken-slot, will give you better power enhancement and more wiggle room to help other powers. When you end up having so many really good powers with so little space to work with, that helps a lot.

Here, finally. I made one change, swapping the Stupefy in Flashfire for a set of Superior Dom ATO. The uncatalized version is nifty too before level 50 of course. It let me pull a slot from Phœnix and slot a fifth Positron in Fireball for better stats and more recharge :

This gives you 115% recharge buff out of hasten at level 50, more than enough for permadom. It also gives decent-but-not-great ranged and E/N def, decent S/L/F resist for those things you can't lock down, and enough stealth to get in position to use your controls.

Flashfire is your main, up-every-spawn control, and paired with Fire Cages it gives you an AoE hold that actually LASTS. Hotfeet and consume benefit from melee wadding, but every other attack you have can be used at ranged as well as point-blank. Blazing Bolt is useful to build up dom after a rez or logging in.

Sadly, Embrace of Fire doesn't grant you permasnipe, but a yellow or a Tactical teammate will, since you'll have permanent +15% tohit as is.

All in all, it's a budget build. No purple (Catalyzed ATOs don't count in my book), LotGs and Numinas are easy with A-merits, and the rest just requires some marketing. I think it could even perform reliably on SOs.

Embrace of fire is nice, but can be skipped if you need other powers? The pure dps boost it gives makes it a no brainer in my opinion. Combined with rain of fire and fire ball from the ancillary I'd say its a must have.

Made it up to 33 so far. Mostly been DXP DFB which is frustrating, but only 2 more levels of that. Rocked a DIB and Morimer Kai, the latter being a lot of fun since I finally got to use Bonfire and Consume, which I bound to the mouse all teleport style.

Then again, being teamed with a Mind controller, Earth controller, and Dark controller, I didn't really get much opportunity to see how effective my actual controls are. Damage is good though, imps are doing their job.

Now I just need more slots.

Our superteam made it to 42 before calling it for the weekend. Despite some problems on Saturday it went pretty smoothly the rest of the time.

Sunrazer is now a walking death machine and can only get tougher and better.

Thanks again for all the help guys.

Congrats! The OF Proc REALLY adds great control and damage to Fire Control.

It definitely does. I'm still torn on whether to lead with Bonfire or Flashfire, since I tend to take a bit of return fire with either power.
