Water/Traps Tentative Build

So disclaimer: I'm a total noob at IOing characters, especially the more support oriented ATs, as the only characters I've IO'd are melee and even then I had help.

I've been playing this Water/Traps Corr and I've been having a blast, so I tried my hand at a build. Here's what I came up with:

I know it's not the best build out there, and it's probably pretty cheap, but I'm not rolling in influence so that's fine. I'm going for heavy AoE so I want to be able to pretty easily mow down larger groups of enemies. I'm pretty happy with it on paper, but I come to you on the forums for any help/advice you can give me.

Thanks in advance!

Couple things I'm seeing right off.

Trip Mine is waaaay underslotted. It does more damage than any other single power you have there if you slot it up. I would try to get it outfitted with the Overwhelming Force set and make sure you get the kb>kdown proc so you don't waste your other powers. You could pull from web grenade for two slots for starters.

That Panacea proc you have in Triage Beacon will be quite pricey. Up to you whether it's worth it since you have a heal in dehydrate that can scale.
Speaking of the dehydrate, you could pull two of your thunderstrikes for a couple Touch of Nictus and get a lot more mileage out of the heal without costing you any damage.

Personally, with all the slows you have available, I would give some damage to Caltrops. it will add up nicely with your whirlpool in the damage department. Using Caltrops offensively gives some good mitigation too with the fear, but that's up to you. Plus it's cheap/fast.

For poison trap, you could replace 4 of your lockdowns for 2 from Basilisk's Gaze for some added recharge. You could still keep the lockdown proc for it's added hold.

Oh, and using hover will stop you from planting many of your traps.

Have you considered going without the uber defense for some more control and damage? You can easily do this by going Dark Mastery and using the -tohit from the Drones to shore up the defensive numbers. I can show you with the build I've been working on (unfinished) for a Defender version.

Hey thanks for the input.

Yeeaaah, I wanted to get some more slots in there, but I kind of went crazy in the beginning six-slotting everything before realizing that it wasn't necessary or smart.

I figure I have enough merits that I can cut down on the influence cost on a lot of stuff, but then I don't quite know what I can use merits for and what I'll have to buy. Either way price isn't as big of a factor as I thought.

The hover thing was a stupid oversight though, thanks for pointing that out.

Going for control and damage over defense is probably a better idea. My main is a Brute so I always seem to be in the mindset that I can tank no matter what character I'm on.

Again, thanks for the info. I'll give the build another go; I really want to learn this stuff.

Tough build to get defense capped atm for me. Most of the time I can just change the primary from one of my other Traps Corruptor builds, make a few changes and get capped out again. Not happening atm.

But I haven't given up.
I'm gonna post what I have atm, I'm short 3.6 in Melee Defense.

As Shadey_NA mentioned Hover is out.

Another thing your going to need is either some sort of endurance recovery power like Power Sink or Cardiac Incarnate. Regardless of what Primary and Traps you get from Corruptors it is always going to be a HEAVY endurance build. It is just the price you pay for Defense cap and having so many toggles on. That is the nice thing about Defenders with Traps much easier to obtain defense cap and way less endurance issues because of it.

I have 2 such Corruptors Sonic and DP, both have Power Sink and I have no issues. I have enough protection and inspirations that I can literally just stand around IF I needed to just to wait for Power Sink to recharge. Again that is an extreme off the wall instance. But I'm playing devils advocate here.. What if I fire off P.S. with no mobs around ( EG mobs runs off ) on accident scenario. I solo 4/8 on both.

Another thing you can do is go Agility Incarnate which will help endurance some but it will also boost your defenses so you could rework some IOs from range defense and cap out Melee. Take one from Aqua and one from Steam spray and place them back into LOTG defenses that only has 2 slotted.

Again haven't given up. I'm gonna look at other Traps builds I have to see maybe a different combo might work at getting you capped Pre Incarnate which would be nice.

EDIT: added link to Yogi thread down below with 2 builds I posted. Maybe someone will get a brain storm I couldn't between these 3 builds.

Just a thought, you prolly don't need to have melee capped. You have two sources of help to regain health and if it gets too hairy you can alway throw down caltrops with it's mag 5 billion skiert in it. Adding to that you will have things flopping all over the place with your kdown powers. With creative slotting you can have 4 aoe type powers that can make things fall down (not back) plus more with single target. That might get you some leverage in slotting.

Just remember with control powers and using dark mastery you will become a more aggressive player... i.e. melee. Three of the powers in Dark Mastery are pbaoe, the stun, end and damage buff powers.

And yeah, if you go tough/weave I'm thinking you will need a recovery power like Dark Consumption from Dark Mastery. With my defender version, i think i have enough to make it through most fights without it, but my last power is negotiable if I feel like i'm drowning.
Then again I'm not much for +4/+8, I'm happy at +2/+8 and chompin vitamins when needed.

Hey guys, I've been busy with RL lately, but I just wanted to say thanks again.

I'm liking the idea of using Dark Mastery as it fits my intended playstyle of jump in, AoE, and watch them fall. Plus with it being colorable in i24, it'll actually fit the concept.

I'll most likely be going with the Cardiac alpha as it provides the extra recovery passively. I'm not so good with remembering to use click powers (I even tend to forget hitting Rage on my Brute, and that's like SS's core power).

Cardiac is endurace reduction

Agility and musculature provide recovery boosts

Er, right. I knew it was one of those things. Just didn't feel like going to check which one.

But yeah, Cardiac is a big help on the other characters I've gotten it on, though truth be told I haven't taken a look at any of the new Alpha abilities they added in i21.5 so I'm not sure how comparable those are. Definitely going to need to plan out Incarnate abilities better.
