Fiery Melee / Sheild Defense :: Need Ctritique
Your primary goal should be shooting for 45% defense to melee, ranged, and aoe.
Yes, aim your set bonuses around getting 45% defense in AoE, range, and melee defense.
I have a fire/shield brute that does massive AoE damage while remaining very sturdy. You can accomplish this on a scrapper with thoughtful slotting.
I'll point out a few things that will be helpful:
-You should consider removing Flurry and Burnout
-You should consider taking Combat Jumping and/or Maneuvers for added defense
-Grant Cover is an important power. While it does not add to your personal defense, it buffs your team mates and gives you a -very- important resistance to defense debuffs. Without it, foes can easily lower your defenses and thus hit you more often
-It would be better to slot Shield Charge with a PBAoE damage set such as Obliteration
-You only need one recharge IO enhancement to make Active Defense up all the time
-You are over-slotting a few powers such as Tough, Weave, Stamina, etc.
I understand that you will not have the Influence for the sets that you need. Experiment with mids and try picking up sets that increase your AoE, range, and melee defenses. Any additional +recharge bonuses will just be gravy
Thanks for the reply! i decided to keep flurry and burnout, because well, i like burning out my One with the Shield for 4 minutes incredible resistance. I could be wrong there, but here is my revised edit, with my Defense Soft Capped.

You give up a big source of defense debuff resistance by not taking Grant Cover. A little tweak: you could pick up a regen bonus by swapping the miracle for the numi +/+, and swapping the heal in True Grit for a numi heal. The sixth slot in Incinerate could probably be better utilized elsewhere. Also looks pricey, if you're spending that kind of bling, you might consider a hecatomb somewhere.
edit: shield charge likes recharge, it's a great attack. I'd get this slotted better.

So this is my first toon. id like some advise on what to do with my build. Ive read a few forum post on the fire/SD combo, and based a lot of my build off of that.
