Base Building Questions

Can someone give me a newbie guide to base building? Here's a few things I am wondering about:

1) What is Energy and Control needed for? What items specifically and what do each do?

2) Secure Plots give 2 energy and control, what about the others?

3) Someone stated "2 energy and control means you can save up prestige till you get more powerful versions" -- So you can buy more energy and control ? Or what does that statement mean?

Many answers found here.

Some functional items, such as teleporter pads and their beacons, resurrections rings, mission computers, vaults and so on require these resources in order to be operational.

Plots which are not secure can have 1 of each on a Plot.

It means that if you can afford it, you can double stack power and control generating items on a single plot, effectively doubling your resource potential. In actual practice however, things often don't work out that way simply because of supply and demand (and the lack of base raiding being a concern anymore).

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Ok that helps a little, so is that the full list of items that require energy and control?

That link talks about Auxiliary and Core items. What is the point of them? For instance it states for a Circuit Breaker: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Circuit_Breaker

This item is an Auxiliary Energy base item that must be attached to a core Energy base item in order to benefit the base. If unattached, it is merely an expensive decoration.

What exactly is the benefit? Why would I build it?

I suppose simply how I envision my base, I want one of all the different active benefits -- Like a Teleporter so I can go to all the areas, respawn area, workshop, a place to store things, a place to craft the temp powers, etc. Not sure if I am missing any.

Auxiliary items attach to Core items do something extra. The Circuit Breaker generates an extra 150 energy, as the wiki page says. So you'd build it if you needed some more energy. Teleport beacons are also aux items, for example, and attach to teleporters to give the teleporter the appropriate zone as a destination.

I'm not sure if Redlynne's list is exhaustive, but base items will say how much energy and control they use in the base editor UI, and on the bottom right you also have bars showing your base's total control and energy generated and used.

Sounds like you've got all the major base functions; you can also put a Pillar of Ice and Flame in a base, which is mildly useful (sometimes lets you save a loading screen rather than going base -> Ouro; characters can also use it if they don't have their own Ouro portal yet, and will get Entrusted with the Secret after doing an arc through the crystal).

Honestly, Secure Plots are overkill unless you run a MASSIVE supergroup.

I used to run a two-players SG with around 25 toons in it on my former server. A mid-sized Hidden Plot with one tier-2 energy and one tier-2 control items, plus a couple auxiliaries, were enough to run :
- a crafting table,
- a vault,
- an empowerment station,
- a forge,
- 9 storage racks,
- a F&I pillar,
- 2 med pods and
- 12 ( ! ) teleporters - those were before the hacked version, when we could only have two destinations per pad.

With a modicum of decoration you can get all that for around 1M to 1,5M prestige, and it'll cover 95% of the services a base can grant you. Secure plots are relics from when base PvP raids were possible, and the extra control and energy were used to run base defense items. Nowadays, those are just extra decorations, sadly.
