Fire/Rad

Hyperstrike

Hi all,

While my Fire/Rad already hit 50 and will soon get her respec, i work on a Fire/Rad, which just got to 10. But I tried to make him a build.

This toon will mainly be played in teams, so I hope what I did here makes some sense. It has not much Def/Resist though, but a bit of status effect protection.

Input on this would be highly welcome! Thanks in advance!

Okay, I wouldn't use a full set of Lockdown in Choking Cloud. It's fairly endurance-intensive and Lockdown's end-redux is merely "okay".

I'd actually swap the ATIO set in there (and when you get the converters, change them over to Superior...but do it all at once so you don't lose set bonuses).

I went with Stupefy in Flashfire. The proc will occasionally toss a few enemies around, but it doesn't happen often enough to worry about.

Swap slotting on Cinders and EM Pulse. Cinders will be up MUCH more often. So you'll get many more chances at the proc there.

If you're teaming you REALLY don't want to slot Bonfire for KB. Slot it for damage and toss in the Overwhelming Force KB->KD proc.

Radiant Aura: If you're not 6-slotting it, go with Doctored Wounds for the recharge set bonus.

Lingering Radiation: Just put some endurance redux and an Acc in there.

Fire Imps: You can get the same defense bonus and a recharge bonus from Expedient Reinforcement.

You've completely ignored Hot Feet.

Yes, it does piddly damage. You're a Fire/Rad! If you were to monitor your damage output, you'd see that, in combat, Hot Feet accounts for a significant chunk of your damage.

Radiation Infection and Smoke are ridiculously overslotted.

Fallout, a very VERY situational power, is 6-slotted. For debuff...
If you're going to slot Fallout, slot it for DAMAGE.

Indomitable Will is overslotted.

Just, in general, you're slotting up as if you were going to be a ranged blaster. With your power selections, that's not going to work too well. And if they close on you, you're relying on a Hold-slotted Char, a Stun-slotted Flashfire, and your imps for damage (see "Attack an iceberg with a sewing needle").

Not saying my build is perfect (it ain't), but here it is for basic comparison.

Hi Hyper!

Thanks for the critics, i see your point and they all seem to be valid. I am working on the build while I level, keeping an close eye on your advise

I had a Fire/Rad years ago and she was really cool and rocked the world.

I will probably post an update build in the next days, but this toon will be a bit slower in leveling as I play it only together with a friend and she is not as regular on CoH as I am atm.

Again, thanks Hyper, you rock!

Okay, keep in mind the build I posted is a FINALIZED build. It's not something you necessarily want to use as a template for leveling up.

Look at frankenslotting to maximize Acc and EndRedux (and look at kicking up recharge).

I know. I know. And the absolute BEST of my innumerable wonderful features? My unfailing modesty...

Anyhoo. If you happen to be running this Fire/Rad on Freedom, we have a regular group every Monday night at 9PM Eastern. We meet on the hill in Talos. Come! See! Melt enemies and cackle like a depraved fiend!

JAR0 This is very similar to the Fire/Kin build I posted for you on the other thread. While there is nothing wrong with Hyper's build I prefer to have all my toons soft capped to Smashing and Lethal Defense. Here is what I was able to come up with. Please notice that in order to get the endurance where it is I had to take Cardiac Alpha. I don't know how savvy you are with incarnate powers, but the Alpha slot is the first one you unlock so it shouldn't take too long to get this. Also this endurance gap is provided that you have your accolades. So I would not recommend this build unless your intending to get both your alpha slot and your accolades on this character because without them this build will be an endurance draining pit.

Anyways here is the build, once again without fire imps. I stand by my opinion that they'll die unless your constantly healing or buffing them, the only build I've seen them work successfully on is a Fire/Sonic controller because they're resistance is increased.

Thanks a million for the help. I am still thinking what i should do. I must say you are right, it can be a real PIA to keep the little critters alive. I wish they would allow us to controll them better .... ( aren't we called controllers?)

I would really miss them, but maybe it is time to try something new

It will for sure take me time to get this build to 50, as i only play it with my GF and she is not completly hooked up (yet)

Thanks again though!

Jaro a.k.a. Speed
Veteran player back after a looooong break and happy to see that CoH got much better then it was when I left.
Meet me on Freedom, if you like some Speed.

Yeah it's a pain in the butt. But, with enough recharge, and you don't really notice. If they "go away" you simply resummon, buff, and continue butt-kickery.

Outside of Hot Feet, they're a major contributor to your damage output.

So think carefully before excising them from your build.

As for Most Amazing's preference for lots of S/L defense, the problem I've run into is that it doesn't cover you from ranged alphas really well. My previous build was S/L softcapped and I was getting spanked by non-S/L ranged attacks on a semi-regular basis.

Due to server and network latency, your controls don't always immediately seize hold of enemies before they can get attacks off. So you get goofy situations like groups launching off alphas as your stuns/holds/etc take effect.

Also, you've run into the "two groups bunched up in an area", like the bottom of the tunnel in the Midnighter "rescue Argot Bur Wot" map. You can have groups of a size that exceeds your targeting cap. Which can be REALLY dangerous if you're running at high difficulty.

I've found that a balance of S/L and Ranged works a lot better (for me at least) than simply loading up on S/L.
