Need help with a RAD/FIRE build

Airhammer

Hey all,

Been back a few weeks now, tried out my SJ/WP scrapper (IN LOVE), tried out a few builds for Dark/Dark dom (Thematically WIN, kind of meh for efficiency and damage, but still in LOVE), and now I'm trying to restore an old project that frustrated the hell out of me.

I'm trying to build a viable ranged def capped rad/fire blaster. Don't really care what EPP he has, just really need to get him built, I'm approaching that stage in his levelling life where I need to start thinking about his finalized build. I'm not going to post what I have so far (because it's embarrassing), and I've got a previous build for his sets for capped melee def, (which, give the number of AOEs and PBAOES, really, really worked). But for thematic reasons, I kind of wanted him to be a ranged version.

Anyone had any luck with this? Please, (begs) pleased post a build or two!

Thanks for your help you guys.

Ill be honest.. that combo is far far more effective in melee than at range.. the amount of PbAoE goodness is just too much to ignore.

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

What Air Hammer said. Your best bet is to try to soft cap S/L/E that also gives you decent numbers vs melee and ranged.

Mace Epic is going to be your best option for that.

What the previous gents said.

As a powerset that gets 3 PBAoEs by level 10, if you're playing it at a range for anything but maybe AV fights you're doing it wrong. More diverse defense will definitely help you out more.

Here is an idea to get you started. One small luck from capping Sm/Le/Nrg/Range. I'd consider Agility for Alpha. You could drop Fire Sword and Atomic Blast to pick up Maneuvers and Tactics instead, if you prefer.

I don't know if Blazing Aura will be able to take Accurate Heal sets, so that may need to be switched out for something else (either a regular heal set or maybe Golgis.

Thanks you guys, I really appreciate it. I guess as far as concepts go, I was aiming for the old Jessica/Firestar kind of theme, but as you have already pointed out, this combination is much better suited for melee range. As I've already got a toon that kicks major *** at the melee cap with this set, guess I'll have to shelf the concept.

It was just an idea I guess, but I'm grateful to you for slapping me upside the head with reality.

So then... ON TO REWORKING MY FORT! MUAHAHHAHAHHAh

If you are going to make Firestar you could go for the Rad Blaster.. maybe an Energy Secondary and pick the Fire Epic pool...

I think a Rad/Fire ranger would be an exceedingly strong toon, especially with the upcoming blaster buffs. I wouldn't shelve the concept just because you can play Rad/Fire in melee as well. Heck, just go 2nd build, that way you can keep both concepts!

I got a Rad/Fire in the late 20s. Still no Combustion though. Biggest problem I've found so far is all the DoTs. Repulsion Bomb jumping in, Fire Sword Circle, Irradiate, tick tick tick, stuff dies, if it doesn't I got a Fire Sword for that, and then blast as needed.

I'm impatiently waiting to see if the devs follow up and make Blazing aura not drop on mezzes. I'll be happy camper then.
