Night Ward endgame question {SPOILERS AHOY!}

I've played through the entire First and Night Ward arc, and one thing doesn't make a bit of sense for me - where the hell did Serene show up from? Didn't she kind of, you know, die? Very recently even? How does she end up having been the Dark Knights' queen out of nowhere?

Basically she was possessing the Queen.

Whether it was the just Queen who was boinking Pendragon or if she was being "ridden" by Serene (BOW CHICKA BOW WOW!) at the time isn't clearly stated.

If the first, there's essentially no chronological gap between the First Ward and Night Ward arcs.

If the second, there's probably a fairly significant time lapse between the two (at least if it's going to make any sense).

Which really can't happen, because after killing Serene the Mistress Maria arc makes it pretty clear we're pulling Katie out of the Seer network -right away-.

Or you can always put it down to "time works differently in the spirit realm then in the real world."
