Commercial use of fan art
It's kind of a tricky area.
Technically, the character designs made in the CC are owned by Paragon. So, even if you made your own rendering you aren't supposed to sell prints, etc, because it contains designs made by Paragon and/or NCSoft.
But, if you are just using it for promotional material tho', to show your skills, I think you'll be ok. If you were using it on a commercial web site, that could be another legal grey area and I would personally have something more original constructed instead, just to be safe.

Hi Herni, I suspect as you are not selling the actual image it should be ok but you could PM a mod if you nervous about it, so called 'fan art' is a bit of a grey area and copyright laws can differ internationally, but as it is your own work rather than an actual in-game image or manipulation I think it should be ok. MMO's in general have a lot of fan art sold as commissions etc which are artistic interpretations.

I don't think so. You are using a design and recognizable items from the game to promote a company that could ultimately earn money from that promotion. Which would be profiting from copyrighted material.
Clean the image of anything that could be linked back to the game and it's probably ok.
I think if it were a more personal level, IE using a rendering of your character or someone elses (with their permission) in your portfolio, That might fly, although in the end it's really the same thing.
<shrugs> I think that generally COH PS NCSoft aren't looking to be bad guys don't brand your stuff with their logos and they will probably look the other way.
please note the number times I use wishy washy language.

Thanks for the comments guys. The reason I asked really, was because i suspected there might be some issue with content copyright, and i'm getting the vibe that this could well be the case in involving this image in my website.
I'm really still in the early stages of building this idea so i've decided on a more generic but still sci-fi related basis for the business, watch this space!
...hmm, space... the final frontier... wait, no, that's been done already...
Hi guys. I'm just wondering if anyone has any info regarding the use of CoH related fan art for commercial use. The art is 100% by me, so there shouldn't be any issue there, but it does depict CoH recognisable character items. Does the art belong to me to use as i wish, or is the subject matter bound by copyright?
I'm not selling the actual picture, but rather using it as a splash header for the pages of a sales website.
Any info and experiences would be much appreciated, thanks
