Advice on how to build a bane

Hmm, let's see I'd start out by making sure that my toggles, particularly leadership and fighting are slotted with a good mix of endurance and defense. I'd take Cardiac Core Paragon for my Alpha to help with the endurance issues, but Agility Core Paragon might work too, if you're good on endurance usage and are looking to boost your recharge and defense a bit more. I'd also look to get Melee, Ranged, AoE, Smashing, and Lethal to at least 45% for softcapping. Oh and get your Smashing and Lethal Resistance as close to 45% as you can. Also for your Destiny slot, I'd take Rebirth Core Epiphany, since unlike a Crabspider, you don't have Serum to heal you. Here's what I'm looking to do for my crabspider's secondary build. It's not yet finished as I don't have the Spider's Bite set slotted yet. As for a Hybrid Slot? I really haven't decided just yet as to which would be best. And I might change some slotting. But, it'll give you an idea of slotting and power selection:

Bane Spiders can do a lot of different things well, and there are different types of builds. What do you see your Bane doing?
Will he start each combat by surprising his hapless victims with Executioner's Strike? Or spraying the room with toxic damage and debuffs? Will he mop up with melee attacks? Ranged mace attacks? SMG attacks? Pets?

My own Bane Spider is 100% mace attacks and he operates much like a Stalker, except that he has useful ranged attacks, and pets, and and better Leadership toggles than any Defender.

I generally team with my Bane, and use this play style on each group of enemies:

Step 1) Little prep work. Make sure all toggles are running. Summon pets if available. Pick something ugly and Surveillance it.

Step 2) AoE attacks! Open with the venom grenade, and follow up with whatever I have available until most the weaker stuff is defeated. Depending on team kill speed this may be right after the venom nade, or may require burst/frag/bile/whatever. I've found two more AoEs to be sufficient most of the time.

Step 3) Switch to melee and finish off survivors. Placate a boss and shatter it, whatever, whip out that mace and start smashing faces in.

This is very fun and I really feel like I'm helping the team, from start to finish.
