Demon Summoning/?/?
/dark, /time, /traps, and /thermal IMHO are the upper echelon
/sonic is underrated. It does very well with the +resistance / -resistance spectrum.
/FF is a lot slower paced and doesn't have buff/debuff outside of the big defense. If you team regularly, FF is more valuable.
I haven't done Demons/storm yet. Demons are fairly rugged, combined with the big debuffs in storm, I can't see it tanking.
I have done Demons/Poison in a level pact long ago. The single target debuffs and noxious gas make the combo a big game hunter. My level pact was Demons/dark. Our duo was a juggernaut.
I haven't done Demons/TA. Again, TA has debuffs galore, and the pets occasionally heal themselves, much better after level 32. The AoE fire would have synergy with oil slick.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
As the other half of the level pact Psylenz mentioned, I would whole-heartedly recommend demons/dark. Alpha mitigation - check, strong team/minion heal - check, -resistance - check, good dmg - check, awesomest team rez that doubles as an awesome AoE stun when used offensively - check, stealth and +resistance for you and yours - check....
I think you get the drift.
Psylenz, I think it's time to break out the cows again.

I'm currently running a demon storm. It is the craziest, fast-paced insanity-inducing trip in my leveling experience. As soon as endurance was brought under control (for myself and the tier 2 and 3 minions), the difficulty shot up.
Hell on Earth compliments the madcap experience of hurricane's repel, tornado's KB, and the bolts of lightning shooting across the room. The demon noises even fit in with the general chaos.
With all the pet-unique enhancements slotted, as well as hurricane's hit debuff, the combo is exceptionally sturdy. I found that O2 boost along with the tier 2 demon heals were more than sufficient to keep the minions topped off.
Not to say that anything suggested above is wrong -- /storm is just a surprisingly synergistic option that is heaps of fun.
/dark, /time, /thermal, /traps -- as well as /storm, /sonic and /pain, which I neglected before, all benefit from the mastermind being right in the mix, in near melee, with debuffs, aoe buffs, working together.

I'm looking to reroll a DS MM; any opinions on what my secondary should be to optimize mitigation/recovery (survival)?
What I'm seeing from the primary is (up to):
-226% recharge debuff
+22% S/L/T resis (slotted; self)/7% pets
+30% F resis (slotted; self)/10% pets
+15% C resis (slotted; self)/5% pets
1 pet Heal
1 AoE Heal
I will be slotting in all of the IO pet procs:
+10% Def/+20% Def AoE
+20% Resis
(assuming the Intensive Recharge uniques are usable with the standard pet uniques)
I'm also looking at complimenting the resis debuff that DS has a lot of:
(up to) -108% resis debuff
****************************
I'm primarily looking at /Dark but maybe you guys are more keen to something that I may be missing from other sets?
****************************
And, at a glance, for the EPP:
Field Mastery looks good (Temp Invul+FoN+DS' resists) and Torrent (for KD mitigation+FF proc)
Charge Mastery (SoP+DS' resists) and EMP

Thanks in advance for everyone's input.
Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
