New Defender - Storm/sonic or Kin/ Son
Have you ever played a Storm toon ?
Regardless of what some might say, there is a learning curve with Storm and trying to figure out / experiment with the powers in a team environment can be bad for you. Unfortunately one of the best powers for YOU solo is one of the worst powers for a team, especially in today's game because everyone can just steam roll stuff. Of course the power I am talking about is Hurricane.
As many will jump in and explain Hurricane is good for holding mobs in corners or against some other object and has a good debuff but take skill to use. Trying to herd mobs into corners can be tough or having players understand that herding mobs into corners and you holding them there is good. You need to practice so you know how much not to push the mobs so they don't spin out.
Also Lighting Storm a bit higher then ground height will make it a Knock Down and not a Knock Back.
Personally build wise I went Range Defense cap and middle road AOE and Melee and allowed the debuff from Hurricane to cap those 2 out. I also went with as much recharge as I could and picked up Burnout so that I can drop down doubles of all the storm powers for big fights or big pulls. The recharge actually allows me to have up 3 Lighting Storms when burnout is used for 30 seconds I think (build is on the forums and being lazy to open up my VM see the MIDs build).
Mine is a Storm Sonic as well.
Once capped out what I learned is I go in and drop Snow Storm on the boss and then run back a few rooms. He then drags along all the mobs. Once they start coming I pop a purple to give me a bit of a boost defense wise and then start dropping LS and FR on the mobs. The issue I do find is I hit the Mob cap so I can pull more mobs then will aggro on me sometimes. End result can solo 4/8 with him.

Thanks for the tips. I went thru the forums a bit to get some info and found your old post for your build at that point. Gave me a great place to start. They didnt have the ATO sets when you posted and I added some purple sets along with some other minor changes. After working thru Mids a bit tonight I came up with this build. its a little hard on endurance with everything running until Ageless but I think its pretty solid. I hit 26 tonight also so I'm getting there. Thoughts?

Storm/Sonic - Some learning curve when your with pugs and select friends but solo let the chaos flow as you sit back and giggle like a maniac. On a side note these are great av debuffers between your patch and your constant stream of -res to stack on it.
Cold/Sonic - Made a build for this one and the debuffs and even more crazy. You get to keep the sleet patch and lose the chaos. To make things even better you get two awesome debuffs that will help kill their regen, special, end, and recovery. Its a very good team and solo set in that reguard cause you also get a nice defense/resistance shields. Now, do note that because they have a resistance component they cannot be power boosted.
Kin/Sonic - This build is very near and dear to me. Not only can you keep your team capped off on Damage, HP and END but you have a build in self speed boost (not to mention speed boost which is OMGWTF Awesomenow that you can hit all team mates in one shot). Additionally the +mez protection got even better now that the +res is applied to all in range but not the mez protection. I get some crap but I use this build like a floating tank fender. Even took provoke (ducks). Not that is necessarily the route to go cause YMMV but nevertheless it is a fun and powerful team player and can even solo.

Need advice plz. My only other defender is a Emp/Psi that just cant seems meh. I could also consider Cold/Sonic the idea being i have a ice/snow cold theme with big boomin voice from an old cartoon that I would like to try. Are there any major issues with cold/sonic or storm/sonic I am missing. Ive been playing in mids but not sure about slotting the storm or cold powers.

reasonable buffs that offer a team value
