Grav/Sonic questions

1) Does anybody else play a Grav/Sonic, or more generally /Sonic, at all? I went back at least 200 threads and didn't see a single thread that showed /Sonic at all, and certainly no Grav/Sonic, not even in some of the Gravity/ threads.

2) I play mostly in teams, PvE, with almost no current or plans to add IOs of any kind. What should I be focusing on or avoiding in Gravity and Sonic? I'm currently taking Psionic for the epic, and I'm up to 45th level. I could use some general advice for this character.

To be honest Gravity has never been a strong set, except in single target damage, and even post "buffs" is still pretty weak. Recharge is the most helpful to this primary to get your controls up as often as possible.

/Sonic is an endurance hog. The majority of it's powers are team focused. You'll want to heavily slot for both resistance and endurance reduction. The last thing you really want with Sonic is global recharge since the faster your powers recharge the more endurance you burn.

Poorly played, a Grav/Sonic can actually cause a mission/TF to take far longer than it would have if that player had not joined the team.

Sonic is a massive end hog. Its too bad you wont be using IOs. Sonic controllers can make some cool builds. My fire/sonic is capped to ranged def, aoe def, and has really strong resists, especially to smashing / lethal.

Anyway, lots of end reduction, and pick your fights carefully. Maybe team with a melee character for some addes safety early on.

Hey, I've got a 50 grav/sonic, I don't play him so much but I think I'm one of the only people you'll find on the forums who has one. I originally made him so that I could wormhole, dimension shift, sonic haven, and generally annoy the bajeezus out of people in pvp. Some changes made that a bit useless, so I haven't played him in a while, but I can tell you some things.

I found getting aid other to be very useful; if you're the only support on the team but can't heal it can cause some problems even if everyone is resist capped. '

Liquify is a great power, but the recharge on it is totally insane. If you're not using IOs to boost recharge like I did it's probably a good idea to use your picks on something else.

Cage can be good for saving someone who's about to die, I used it surprisingly often in PvE.

Gravity is in a better place now thanks to the changes, but some of the old tricks are still useful. Gravity played to the full controlly standard is basically a knockback controller. You use your singularity as a wall and use its knockback aura and wormhole to move enemies into a position where they're permanently knocked back and disabled. I actually slotted my singularity for a lot of recharge so I could recast it in order to move it to the best place for each fight. Starting a fight with singularity can actually work really well if you have no tanks; cast it in front of the enemies or on a side to knock them away. Use wormhole to keep the enemies in a place where they're repeatedly knocked back by your singularity.

If you can handle the end drain you can double up with sonic repulsion, but I found that to be pretty pointless.

With the way the game has gone, this kind of complex to set up but super effective control isn't really all that great. Things tend to die super fast. In normal situations you basically just play like a sonic defender who has wormhole and does damage with lift and so on instead of blasts.

Psi is a decent pick for your app, though I'd pick something that will help your damage or your resists a bit more. Buff up your high resists as much as you can rather than trying to get some anti-psi. A sonic controller can actually be quite durable, especially if you build up ranged defense in addition to your current bubbles.

My Illusion/Sonic controller was my 2nd 50 and I absolutely love him, though to be honest that is mostly due to Illusion and less so Sonic. However, he is the one char I have pretty much fully IOed (Perma PA is awesome and I'm just a couple purples away from getting it) and /Sonic with IOs makes a big difference. The end usage is pretty hefty and IOs only pseudo helped, but having Mez resists is pretty much awesome. The recharge on liquefy is RETARDED long, so long that even with near Perma PA lvls of recharge, every 3rd mob might get it and it's so long that often I'm just not using it to save in case I need to drop something's to hit through the floor in an emrgency.

I also have a 40 Grav/FF troller which, while not the same, has some parallels. Again, personal Mez pro is awesome. I personally skipped the intangible cage on both and only use the intangible on grav because of the new tweaks.

Since you have some Mez pro, I'd strongly advise you look at a different APP than Psy since the primary reason to go PSy is for Mez pro. Without IOs, I'd be very tempted to make sure I have something to help with the end usage and prolly choose Fire (like I did on my Ill/Sonic) so that you can get a full end bar every so often. My Illusion/Sonic Build is on here and it's been slightly tweaked but pretty much the same. I know you're not looking for IOs, but it can give you some ideas on what to look at as potential sloting goals. Best generic slotting advice I can give is 2 res in the casting shields, a good mix of end and res for the AoE shield, 2 accuracy in Sonic Siphon (you want that to hit for sure and it makes a decent opener single target to make everything after that much stronger, but you'll only want to use it every 30 secs since it doesn't stack), 2 end reds in the -res toggle & as much recharge and To Hit debuff you can spare in liquefy (the hold duration is so short as to be almost ignorable).

Seems like a very sturdy troller. Buff up your team/tank grabs one group/wormhole another on top/dimension shift/liquify when available/everybody kills up close(jump out if in trouble).

Looks to be a great combo unless your team is filled with ranged cone types.
