Crab Spider Advice Solicited
If you're happy that's all that matters.
It's ... original.
------
If, however, you want more performance, there are many high end builds in my archives in my sig, as well as in the Soldiers Forum. The two major build patterns follow either offense, or survivability. The offense line pursues recharge and leveraging of the pets, while the survivability line pursues defense, resist, and hp while sacrificing some of the offense offered by the pets. Other variants sacrifice the pets further if not eliminate them, however, there seems little to gain and much to loose in many of those scenarios. In my own line of builds I have an offensive one and an i23 hybrid icap defensive one, but the icap version sacrifices significant burst offense in order to achieve icap. If you don't plan on playing "main tank" then I'd advise taking any of the various offensive high recharge variants. Start with one of the known good builds and then modify to fit your own needs and preferences.
Some Known Good Builds, neither inclusive nor exclusive, from my archives:
BlueRuckus 2
Darkstar 6
Giant2005 2
Granite 4
Trilby 2
Wlyfen 9
Yay, I got mentioned!
I can't say I like your build. It feels a bit...disjointed.
But if you like it, that is all that matters.
I would suggest dropping combat training offensive for a second assualt toggle, for the extra 15% damage to you, team mates and your pets.
Hmm, original and disjointed. I like the idea of dropping CT:O for Assault. Good idea. I've been perusing the various builds, with all their contradictory advice, and figuring it out the best I can. Thanks for the input!
Only have a moment. Without going over 500 million inf, I got my soldier up to 45% ranged and AOE and about 43 melee. I only have one single target ranged attack and skipped the melee outside of boxing. Cardiac ALPHA is important. Took MAKOs patron pool for the extra cones. I never miss having the extra ST ranged attacks and if in Melee, I am doing something wrong as my cones don't hit as many targets. fully slotted both pets, got both assaults. Rarely use serum and wish I had saved a couple slots there.
routinely go +3 x8 in DA missions without fear.
Check out the other builds listed above. and you will be happy.
Liberty Server
Having fun everyday.
It has lots of ranged attacks, they're well slotted, and it has soft-capped ranged defense. In that sense, I think it's a servicable build.
In terms of general building advice, for all characters, the main thing I would change is... don't six-slot an IO set if you can get all the important bonuses with 4 or 5 slots. Those 3.13% toxic resist bonuses from Positron's Blast and Aegis? Not that important. Those spare slots could be used to add something to the power it really needs (like Range for Suppression) or they can help out other powers that are underslotted (pets, maneuvers).
OK. Moved some stuff around to get you 6 slots, but mids is now bugged for me (curse the new update! :P ) so I can't do any more.
http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...8CFF02DD66F5C0
If you are patient, I'll try and work on your Mid's build, while staying in the kinda peramiters you want.
And the conflicting advice is the diffrent play styles. For example, Blueruckus is all about killing stuff. He does a super attack chain and can solo pylons.
Me? I'm a tanking crab. I've got high def, res, self healing and multiple ways to keep the heat off me and my allies, or focus fire onto me. I also run buffs to keep my team going and I tank everything no problem.
I'll second that. Everyone has their own preferences.
I updated my archives, and now have ... five ... variations of my current Crab build. I'd like to have them ALL. Each one has a niche. But I'm only running 9a while building 9b. I'm also running a Huntsman build 5a.
I tend to be about survivability first, while maintaining offense second. To that end I'm running 3 builds.
- Huntsman with emphasis on malfactoring 15 to 45.
- General Crab 9a with Ranged iCap and Standard Melee/AoE, then all the rest of the build goes to offense. Blank slots are for the i23 ATO, which may or may not play nice sub level 45/47. Optional flip Frenzy to Armageddon depending on the i23 ATO and if you aren't worried about malfactoring sub 47.
- i23 Hybrid iCapped to All 9b. This build gives up a lot of recharge and the (near) perma-pets to iCap defenses. This is overkill for anything other than main tanking or soloing +4x8. It may well be overkill even then. Notes: it is NOT icapped prior to i23 and Hybrid T4 +Defense. Blessing of Tielekku grants 2.8 defense all.
Thanks for all the great advice. I guess what I'm looking for is everything, lol. Right now, I'm happy having fun with my current build, but I'm having the most trouble with AVs, GMs, and the like. Even those damn dig machines. I'm working on improving the Diamagnetic Interface, so that should help.
Ok, given the advice above and the builds I've seen, I've come up with this. Comments?

Made some changes for extra recharge, extra melee defence (You don't want to neglate that) and general moving around where 6 slotting isn't needed (it gets you 1 point of attack and some useless resists. By moving it into other areas like recharge you will get more damage over all as stuff will refresh faster and improve your attack chain.)
@Trilby - Looks great! I was going to question 6-slotting Call Reinforcements for 2.5% AoE, but every little bit helps, right? Especially with the iCaps being higher. I'll give it a test drive tonight, albeit without all the Enhancements. But I have a good feeling about it.
Well, it gives 1.89% res to S/L, the extra slot is a bonus, but can be dropped.
@Trilby -
Well, I took the new build out for a spin. Don't have all the Invention Enhancements yet, but getting there. Earned my first MoITF and just steamrolled through everything. The extra recharge giving me perma-spiderlings alone was worth the trouble of respecing.
Thanks again!
The Celerity +Stealth in Sprint won't give you full invisibility. People usually put that in Superspeed, because it will give full invisibility.
Virtue H&V: CatSquid of Justice-Lvl 37 TriForm PB, Tundra Tigress-Lvl 50 Claws/SR Scrapper, Mistress Khaos-Lvl 50 Dark/Fire Brute, D'Vine Death-Lvl 50 Plant/Thorn Dom, Phrozen Purrgatory-Lvl 50 Ice/Cold Corr, Prowling Pantheress-Lvl 50 Claws/Nin Stalker, Robo Mynx 3.0-Lvl 50 Bots/Traps MM, ArachniBlast-Lvl 50+3 Perma Hasten/Perma Pets/High Recharge Crabspider, Devil's Wrath-Lvl 50 Bane Spider. SG: The 912 Project, VG: Progressively Evil.
That's a holdover from my previous build when I had Superspeed. Don't really need stealth any more, but if I did, the Celerity +Stealth will stack with a Stealth temp power to usable levels.
So how is the build treating you?
So far, things are great. I'm enjoying the enhanced survivability and the Perma Spiderlings. I am sure things will improve once I get all the sets. The 10 toggles are a liitle fearsome, but they seem to be working just fine with cardiac. Thanks again!
I do have a question. Much as I hate to think of it, if I drop Serum, I can put Hasten there, two slot it, and move the extra slot to Venom Grenade in order to stick the Spider's Bite proc in there. It's almost heretical, but can you think of another power to drop instead?
In fact, here's another build. I sacrifice some melee defense for recharge, but I eliminate some of the extra toggles. Anything obvious this is missing?

Personally, I'd get rid of the Frag Grenade. People seem to hate it, due to the knockback it causes. That or get rid of Aim.

Actually, I don't mind the knockback. It's the last in my AoE attack chain, and I find it works wonders having another AoE power in the chain.
And Aim is a good buildup that helps boost accuracy and damage. Besides, what else am I going to get at 50 with no slots? Recall Friend?
Of course, I could put Superspeed in there, for some quick-moving, stealthy action.
I honestly don't like your build, but this might be better.
Perma pets.
With the new ATO 48% melee.
Perma hasten.

Hmm. I can see the advantages. And much more recharge means giving up an attack won't really matter. And one less purple set to try and find.
Ok, trying this for the first time. I have a Crab build that I'm happy with, but I'm submitting it for peer-review to make sure I'm not missing something obvious. I am having fun with this build, and I'd like to continue to do so. I'd like to finish softcapping, or improve soling GMs.
